Slaton bakery has been around as far back as I can remember. They have such great treats. It’s also a bit of an antique shop. I saw a few metal lunch boxes for sale and it brought back so many memories. The cake I ordered was superb.

This bakery is so cute with an interesting museum of sorts in it. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and informative on the items in the cases. I bought a dozen (variety) cookies and 2 individual chess pies. The pies were to die for, I would go back just for those. The cookies were all also delicious. Worth a stop if you are anywhere close to them!!!

We made a trip just to get out. Masks are required and I liked that. Service was good and what we got was good. My only issue was that the bread rolls we bought with the cheese in them had the word hydrogenated in the ingredients more than once. Not good. We had a ham sandwich and a chicken salad sandwich made to go and those were both delicious.

On the drive to Lubbock on Saturday morning, August 17, 2019, we noticed a sign advertising Slaton Bakery. I thought I remembered the Bakery being featured on Texas Country Reporter highlighting the vanilla wafers. There was a line to select bakery items. The variety of cookies we selected were delicious especially the pecan sandies. The cheese tibit crackers were also yummy. Loved the bakery goods paying tribute to Texas Tech. A good stop!

We saw a report about this place on line in California and decided to try it when we were in Lubbock. The pastries and cookies were excellent and they also had some cute Texas items.

We have stopped by here several times on our way to Ft Worth. In the mornings there is a large number of customers so service is pretty fast. This afternoon there were a few customers and 3 staff. I had to wait several minutes while the 3 staff assisted another customer who wanted to order a special item. I was ready to walk when I was noticed and helped. I ordered 2 oatmeal raisin cookies, a dozen thumbprints and a sack of vanilla wafers. My 12 thumbprints were put into a sack where they all tumbled together. A new dozen were put in a box. The oatmeal raisin cookies were about half their usual size. The vanilla wafers, a first time purchase for me, were very good.

Slaton is a sweet little treasure, I could be almost anywhere in Texas and people know what Slaton is famous for; the Slaton Bakery. You can go in wanting one thing and coming out with a lot more than you went in for. Staff is friendly, owners are honest, hard working people; hard to find that in big cities. My personal favorite is their thumb print cookies, believe me; you will not order just one.

We saw the billboards on a trip to Lubbock and stopped for thumbprint cookies. Friendly people, clean rest rooms (!) and the cookies were terrific. We kept them out of direct sun inside the car and the frosting didn't melt all the way home! The mini pies were also tasty. Worth a stop.

My wife and I made the trip to Slaton to hit the bakery, and, to be honest, it just isn't that impressive. I mean, Lubbock has few bakeries, so its existence is a plus, but aside from that, we sampled a variety of their wares, and nothing stood out. They do have a big variety, but it's one of those places where many of the baked goods just tastes alike. Disturbingly alike. Sugar. Lot of sugar. Very little subtlety in the flavors, and certainly, nothing overly savory.
