UPDATE FROM MY 1ST REVIEW OF POTPOURRI HOUSE FROM 5 YEARS AGO... We were so excited to come back to Tyler for a visit and find that The Potpourri House was open. It had been updated and made more trendy, and although we missed the pretty water fountain inside the eating area (the sound of the fountain ⛲️ was calming) we liked the new updates.I had the portobello mushroom soup, Strawberry salad and chicken salad sandwich trio which was absolutely ?! The soup had lots of mushrooms and had a great flavor. My daughter had the French dip sandwich and fries. The sandwich was piled high with tender meat and served with au joux to dip it in. We had the spiced tea again and although it seemed a little sweeter than last time, I simply asked our nice waitress to put a bit of regular unsweetened tea in with the spiced tea and it was perfect. After lunch, we of course went to walk around the beautiful shop. The ladies were very friendly and it was fun seeing all the colorful earrings, dresses, etc. This is one of our favorite places in Tyler.1st REVIEW FROM 5 YEARS AGO... The spiced tea was absolutely delicious and the staff was friendly. The store was adorable with a plethora of wonderful gift items.Kid-friendliness: There is a kids menu along with plenty of appetizers, sides or smaller size dishes that would suite for kids of all ages.

Service was great. I liked the food, although I only had the soup and salad bar. The soup was great. My only issue was the salad bar had very limited toppings for salad. There was plenty of other types of salads though.Parking: There are a limited number of spaces and they are tight for large vehicles.

Rarely do I give a 5 star review because in reality is anything actually perfect? Well The Potpourri House is. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a chicken fried steak that the menu claimed was the best in East Texas, it was correct. The green beans reminded me of my Meemaws and the sweet tea was fantastic. My wife had chicken almond crepes (I think) that she loved and ate so quickly I wasn't able to get a picture. The server was great and very attentive. The atmosphere was surprisingly nice for a restaurant stuck in the middle of a boutique store. We will be back for sure, there was a salmon meal that I want to try!

Ordered Thanksgiving meal for $139 (COOKED Turkey breast, dressing, gravy, and cranberry sauce). Came with heating instructions of 35 minutes in oven. Thanksgiving day was cooking an uncooked turkey for 5 hours!!! I contacted the Potpourri House and spoke with Les Ellsworth to see if we were mistaken and ordered the wrong meal, given the wrong meal, etc…was told and I kid you not that we received a fully cooked turkey that should have taken 35 minutes, perhaps a little longer. I was a bit irritated that they were not apologetic that mistakes happen and clearly didn’t care to read my email that it took 5 hours for the uncooked turkey to be done, implying I was an idiot! Like if I put a cooked turkey in the oven for 5 hours there would be no turkey left!!! I didn’t ask for a refund, just wanted to know if we had ordered the wrong thing or given the wrong thing. Company couldn’t even admit a wrong doing. Very sad. Will not do business or spend that kind of money for Turkey and dressing. Waste of a day for sure.

Order was delivered incomplete. Food quality was weak. Portions small. Service was unwelcoming, stressed, inattentive, behind us/untimely. Wait staff talked us out of ordering an appetizer. Unfortunate. Hope this was just a rough day.

Get Real

Really want to like this place, as it's a very novel idea to combine a boutique, dessert offering section and restaurant all in one.Loved the Strawberry Salad, which was such a wonderful surprise with the assorted almond slivers, baby spinach and strawberry vinaigrette. Definitely a star offering.Herb Chicken was wonderfully flavored, tender and juicy; mashed potatos excellent with balanced herb seasoning. Issue was when I asked about the green beans and they said they put in pork bacon, I asked for a different side: checking online now, I see other available sides (for the same price, no less) were chips, french fries, sweet potato fries, chips, mashed potatos, mixed vegetables, broccoli florets...and yet I was told "no substitution" would be made when I told them I get sick from pork and needed something different? I asked 3 different people: the first server said "well, we wouldn't want you to get sick," but the girl that was told to find out never did. I asked her again and asked a different girl--so in total, 3 people--then I finally got the above reply. You know what? An even swap of sides loses the place nothing and caring about the patron's health/goodwill is always a very smart idea. However, to categorically say "there will be no substitutions" (for health reasons/allergies) is definitely saying "we could care less." Uh....no.This is probably a good place to go if you have no food allergies or ones that wouldn't be an issue here. The attitude distresses me most, and mostly on that account I would say avoid the place, since it is unwilling to be reasonable with something that actually requires no effort (which disturbs me even more).
