Atmosphere, food flavors and service are all quite nice however the price value equation is totally out of whack. $28 for 2 oz of mushrooms with a tbsb of yam purée and $47 for maybe 4 oz’s of thin slightly overcooked Trout was beyond ridiculous. The Mariposa was one of our special splurge places for years during our annual ski trip to DV. No more. I’ve been in the restaurant business for 50 years and know my food and beverage prices. Sadly the Mariposa has gone from being simply expensive to gouging.

I wouldn’t go back if it was my only option. I have never been so poorly treated in my entire life. Food and service were very poor. I spent $500 for a family of 4 and I can truly say this was the worst restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. I’ve never been compelled to review another business until tonight.

I had high hopes when we made reservations for Mariposa, having read rave reviews. Unfortunately, the nicest thing I can say was how underwhelming the entire experience was. Our waiter was so kind, but unfortunately seemed to have no training. We ordered drinks and waited for 20 minutes for them to arrive. As soon as the waiter delivered the drinks, we ordered our dinner (tasting menu at $125 person). Four courses took 2 hours to arrive and when they did they were cold, very small portions, and honestly not good. (The steak, wagyu filet, was covered in what tasted like Heinz 57 sauce.) The waiter offered to get the manager but by that point we were just ready to leave. The manager came to the table to say that he had great news… he was docking our bill 15%- for a dinner that was over $1000. I left dinner feeling as though we were robbed.

Was nice overall. They’re very strict about seating you at your reservation time. Very convenient to the underground parking garage if you are driving there and not staying on Deer Valley. French onion soup was pretty standard. Bread pops were good, fluffy, soft, but were definitely just croissant rolls and not “bread.” Wagyu steak was really good. It was smoky and tender. Got it medium rare. Came with a small small small salad. If you want actual sides, they are separate. Extensive wine list. Ambience is really nice, soft lighting. Bathroom is downstairs, where you go if you’re skiing, so not really convenient to the restaurant itself. Generally speaking, would probably not come here again, as the food is pretty standard, and not extraordinary really.Parking: Parking is free after 5pm and is an underground parking garage.

The service is amazing. Shelley was on top of it all. The food was hit or miss depending on what you ordered. Having come here for over 20 years, and the reputation, I expected the food to still be up to par. We had the onion soup to start, which I thought tasted good. We then split the asparagus starter. The tomato confit or whatever that was with egg didn't pair very well, personally. Usually an asparagus with egg dish is a great pairing, but with this- the tomato tasted extremely bitter, and if there was egg, it must have been still in the hen. I would order something else. My husband and I each had the lamb shank. Mine was good, however his was very dry. We had the potatoes as a side and they were extremely sticky. This sticky-ness would have been good in their toffee treat at the end (which go ahead and make an appointment with your dentist in advanced), however, it seems they must have mixed up the recipes. I'm not really sure what's happening here, but I hope they get a new chef or fix some of the menu items. It has so much potential to be what it was, especially when the service staff is so great. I have always loved coming here and I will come back one more time in hopes of a better experience.

Some restaurants attain the dubious achievement of transitioning from outstanding, to lazy incompetence, to indifferent contempt for their customers. Mariposa has made this transformation in spectacular fashion. I’ve been coming to Mariposa for more than 20 years, and have had some truly phenomenal meals here. We would bring friends to the restaurant when they visited from out of town. Our experience tonight, though, is an example of how far and how fast an outstanding restaurant can go from great to truly awful. The highlights: the dining room is colder than a meat locker, so don’t check your coat; the caviar fries for 33 dollars are the same fries you’d get with a burger in the cafeteria with a gram of fish eggs; ours arrived cold. The ahi was so fishy it was inedible; the tasting menu is the same price as last year, with 3 courses instead of five (or seven) but portion size is still the same (so make a second reservation at another restaurant because you’ll still be hungry); there’s no wine pairing now, and the list of wines by the glass is meager. Our server who was very nice and trying hard had not been adequately trained. The busser was MIA. We raised our concerns with the manager, who was sympathetic but gave us the Ikon discount, and comped our bottle of water. With tip, we spent more than 200 per person, with one drink each. If you’ve enjoyed Mariposa in the past you’ll be blown away at how bad it’s become. If you’ve never been, you’ll be amazed that a restaurant experience at a place like Deer Valley could be so abysmal. It’s a bit sad to acknowledge that I won’t be coming back after having been a fan for so long.

What an amazing experience. From the moment you walk in, until you take your last bite everything is picture perfect. The food is outstanding, the service was formal but comfortable and inviting. Our servers included our children and treated them beautifully the entire time. They were welcomed and encouraged to love the experience as much as the adults were. Overall I cannot say enough about Mariposa. I will look forward to dining with them when we visit again.

Incredibly expensive for TINY portions. Had to eat more when I got home after spending > $400 per person. About 60% of that was drinks, but still!! Food was very good, and service exceptional. But portions were laughable.

I have been wanting to try this place for sometime and I'm glad I did. It was a great fine dining experience , food was good but really small plate that I wish they could do better overall this is a American restaurant.

Mariposa is serving their 4 course chefs menu. During most of the season there is a 6 or 8 course offering. They also offer a wine pairing with dinner. I opted for the sommelier pairing which was a bit more expensive than the regular pairing. Every single morsel of food offered was truly delicious. Even the amuse bouche and the sourdough in the bread basket were delicious. The wine pairings were very well done. Excellent and very complementary to the food. The only downside is the super high cost. Over $500 for dinner for 2 with wine is just a bit excessive to me. Not that I didn't expect it, but wow! If you're bank account can handle it I can absolutely recommend Mariposa for a very, very nice dinner out.

Would you pay $165 for dressed up carrots? Well, we did, and we felt it was not a good value.I would rate the service as 5. The presentation as 5. But the value of the ingredients was 1. The Serrano ham should have been Iberico, salmon roe should have been Osetra. And I could not eat Waguy beef because I am a pescatarian and instead got a plate of carrots made four different ways. I appreciate the creativity of the chef but a carrot is still a carrot if you fry or roast it and is not an expensive ingredient. The chocolate dessert was excellent but the Pavlova was so so. We chose $175 per person wine pairing and got mediocre selection. I would not call a person who selected those wines a sommelier. The restaurant was half full. I guess not to many people are willing to shell out fortunes for mediocre meals. I have rated restaurants professionally and I have dined at many Michelin restaurants, this was definitely neither.
