Our food at Valter's Osteria was fantastic! My husband and I were looking for a top tier restaurant for our last night in Salt Lake City and Valter's Osteria did not disappoint. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous but still manages to feel like a family-owned establishment. It is an upscale restaurant even though they do not have a dress code. If you do not want to feel out of place, I suggest dressing up a little bit. It is a fairly small dining space for how busy they are. While I am not a fan of cramped dining, the waiters bus the tables regularly, so you do not typically have too much on your table at any time. The wait staff is also very serious, which I mistook at first. It seems to be the type of high-class atmosphere they are going for and not that they are looking down on you. It made me feel a little small at first but by the time we got our appetizer I was over it.Our waiter, Gustavo, had a lot of good suggestions and we took him up on all of them. We ordered a porchetta, rucola e fontina for our appetizer. It was good and light. For our entrees we ordered veal albese and the nana in porchetta savinese (duck in cognac and grape sauce). I had the veal, and it was really good but the duck dish my husband had was absolutely delicious. It was very different from anything we have eaten before, and I am sure we will order it again if we ever go back to Valter's Osteria. We had to order dessert and the only time our waiter smiled at us was when we were bringing us the desserts. We knew it was going to be good! For dessert we ordered the tiramisu which was so good it almost made me cry. I know that is dramatic, but it was so good, and it made me so happy! We also ordered the lemon gelato with honey and lemon juice, and it was hands down the best dessert my husband and I have ever had at a restaurant. The waiter prepares the dessert table side, and it is really fun to watch. I could go back to Valter's Osteria just for the lemon gelato. It is pretty rare that my husband and I enjoy everything we get at a restaurant, but here everything was absolutely delicious. If you are in the Salt Lake City area and are looking for an incredible Italian restaurant, look no further than Valter's Osteria.

Amazing experience, the food was fantastic and the service was top notch. We had a group of close to 20 people and had our food in 5 to 6 courses throughout the evening. They paired the food with outstanding wines ? which made for an unforgettable night. Brava!

Even if you make a reservation, it would behoove you to go at least 2 hours in advance. We had 815p reservations for a party of 4 and it took them +1 hr to seat us. Parties of 2 who came way after us were being seated before our reservation time. It was very frustrating. I do understand it’s a weekend and things are busy but this was not acceptable. I even asked the front desk if we can be separated in order to be seated sooner being parties of 2 took precedence. Sure the GM brought over apps but toast and chopped tomatoes won’t suffice as a bandage. What’s all the more upsetting was the food was VERY UNDERWHELMING! No flavor at all. We were not the only ones walking out disappointed. Save yourself the time and disappointment.

Really nice restaurant to have a date. The food is good but it didn’t blow our minds.. we went on San Valentine’s Day and the service was pretty good. Do not use their valet parking, they charge you to park on the street LOL. They do not have an actual parking, they just use the parking on the side of the streets.. it was funny tho.

Great atmosphere and service. 4 stars due to overbooking the restaurant (we had to wait 20+ mins despite having a reservation). Food was quite good but not especially above other Italian spots in SLC.

Good Italian at a very steep price. I'm not sure it is 100% worth it.

I canceled my reservation after having a less than friendly reception with the woman working at the front. I imagine the food would have been good, but the lighting seemed way too bright for such a highbrow joint.

I always thought that all Valter did was meet and greet diners, but on my first visit since Valter’s passing I realize he was the guiding force for the quality of the meal. Posthumously the house-made pasta has gone from excellent to not even worth finishing. I’ve had better sauce from a jar. My grouper entree was flavorless and overcooked to the point of being rubbery, as were the accompanying clams and mussels. My wife had the lasagna and said she has had better lasagna from the grocery freezer aisle. Save your money and go to Macaroni Grill if you want Italian food.

The food was fresh and authentically Italian. Particularly the bread with garlic oil. The gnocchi was okay but over salted and the sauce very rich, I felt it was overpriced for something I could easily make at home. The service was okay but I had to wait 20 min for a table despite making a reservation. Overall the experience was positive but overpriced.

My partner had made 8p reservations around the time Valter's opened at 5:30p. In fairness, we arrived around 5-7 minutes late trying to find parking in the rain and checked in with the Hostess, no problem. Got a drink at the bar while we waited, and waited, and waited. We had a reservation and weren't sat until 9! An entire hour waiting WITH a reservation. On a Tuesday. There were multiple groups in our same boat who had arrived a little after us with 8:30p reservations and were told "Your tables have paid we are just waiting for them to leave". I'm all for not kicking people out, but if you can't deliver on your end of a required reservation because tables aren't leaving, you shouldn't be offering them to others.Once we were sat, table side service and the food were great. I ordered the one glass of Pinot on the menu which was fantastic and ordered another. I swear the second glass was a different wine and we were going back and forth wondering if the food had changed our taste? The waiters were SO incredibly accommodating and brought us out another wine to compare, which they did comp us on.We still were disappointed that nothing besides the one glass of wine was comped for us having to wait so long. The most frustrating thing was the Hostess didn't engage with all who were waiting and only started to apologize around the 50 minute mark. Other walk ins were asking how long of a wait and were being told "20-30 minutes". We were honestly astounded she could say such a thing when we still hadn't been sat and continued to wait another half an hour.Really disappointed and if we come back I'll be hesitant to do so. I'll look for the earliest sitting because clearly earlier is prioritized and then I know you won't kick me out no matter how long I stay, right?
