Un Vieux Grain de Sel

I like the atmosphere of that restaurant, lost among that cluster of disparate food establishments. We were promptly seated, chose a well aged Spanish Rioja 2012 and placed our order. The diligent waitress delivered some nice “no knead bread”probably a mix of corn and wheat flour with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The carrot/Jalapeño pepper soup with crispy toast was excellent. My curried mussels, reminiscent of the French Charente mouclade, was enjoyable, although the mussels sea flavour had to fight the over powering coconut milk and its sweetness. The boeuf short ribs, just meat, no bone, was well braised, delicious! The grilled brine pork chop (requested rosé) was well done, a bit too dry, bland despite the brining. The tomato relish smoked flavour had vanished by the time it reached our table, the stuffed bleu cheese, of unknown pedigree, and the pear flavour had to fight for existence with the cinnamon spice. The cornbread pudding was pleasant. It puzzled me that a so well aged bottle of wine was not delivered and opened with a bit more careful etiquette, luckily there was no deposit and may be smelling the cork would ensure the wine is not corked. We love the Frette napkins we had noticed during our pre-covid dinner, a sign of class but the food and service was down graded a couple of notches compared to the experience with the last owners. Maybe youth has to mature a bit, still a nice experience….

We visited this restaurant for the first time and what a quaint place! The restaurant has a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the beat and goat cheese salad to start and when it was not only fabulous tasting but beautifully plated! We ordered the bacon wrapped halibut and lamb for our entrees. Both were absolutely delicious! I also tasted the chicken dish and it was also delicious. Wow! What a pleasant experience! Can’t wait to visit again.

One of my favorite restaurants of all time! Whenever I’m in St. George, it’s a plan to go to the painted pony for at least one meal! I don’t think they even know who I am but I’ve been coming here for years and years! The food is yummy. This time I had the Spanish dip with a fresh green salad with shoestring green apples and the pony old-fashioned cocktail is perfect. Really good like grass fed beef. Their cocktails are fabulous and their wine list is great! Plus, it’s a beautiful atmosphere with quiet classics playing and lovely ambience and art on the walls! I highly recommend the painted pony. Ask for Nate!

All around, the best restaurant in the United States. I am 100% serious.I've been to restaurants around the country, some of the very best, this is consistently perfect for portion sizes, quality, originality, etc.Michelin stars have become a joke for price and portion size as well as abstracting the dining experience. Pony has remained authentic yet very satisfying.

Very good meal and service! Cocktails were good, beer salad and entrees were very good. Carrot jalapeño soup could have been spicier.

This was a delightful find as we were passing through St. George. The ambience was very relaxing and pleasant. The service was attentive and they made sure to meet my dietary needs and ensure I had a gluten-free meal. After a long travel day, it was nice to have such a relaxing experience with delicious food. We will definitely go back if we pass through St. George again.

It took a while to get our First Round of drinks, it Came after the apps Which was weird. Other than that, It was great. Very pricey but food quality matched pricing so it's ok.

After a few years, revisiting St. George and the charming ambiance of Painted Pony restaurant felt nostalgic, yet familiar. The culinary experience remained consistent, with dishes expertly presented, though we encountered a minor hiccup with the bone-in pork chop, which arrived undercooked despite ordering it medium. However, the swift correction by the attentive server ensured our satisfaction. Our culinary journey included indulging in the delightful phyllo-baked brie appetizer, a refreshing salad, and the flavorful Airline chicken. We savored each sip of the impeccably crafted Cadillac margarita, a highlight of the evening, along with the locally sourced Sauvignon Blanc, which complemented our meal splendidly. Despite a slight awkwardness in our server's demeanor during drink orders, possibly due to an unusual prevalence of patrons opting for water, the overall experience was pleasant. Revisiting after such a long hiatus evoked fond memories, yet we might allow a bit more time before our next visit.

There is nothing standard about this restaurant or their food. Everything was so tasty. And the crab cakes were perfect. I couldn't improve on anything. Our waiter was attentive and kept things flowing. I love eating there.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had. My wife and I shared the crab cakes, beet salad, and salmon. Everything was excellent. Will most definitely be back.

We come here when we travel to St. George. My only complaint is that there is only 1 vegetarian/vegan option. Many people are not eating meat now and it seems outdated to not have options. Prices are high but quality is good. Wine list is impressive. Nice area but is in an odd building.

We came at the recommendation of several of our friends since it came so highly recommended we thought let's give it a go. We were not disappointed, we made reservations for 7 and the atmosphere walking in was warm and hospitable, the hostess who directed us to our seats was so personable asking if we were celebrating anything special when she learned it was just a needed night out she made sure to let us know her well wishes for a relaxing and well deserved date night. We started with the French onion soup and the chorizo stuffed quail for our starters, and both of these dishes were illuminating. The French onion soup was fragrant light with onions browned to perfection and the combination of melted cheese on top just set the whole tone of the soup we devoured. The chorizo stuffed quail was surprising, the smoked chorizo added such depth to the roasted quail, it was bright and flavorful. I had the lamb for my entree and my husband had the special of the evening Chilean sea bass, the lamb was cooked perfectly and the dripping of slight fat on the side of the lamb made every bite magic. The sea bass was unbelievably flaky bright white the sauce was elevated the whole bite. We finished off with baked alaska for dessert and their blackberry sauce served on the side was incredible and hard to place as I could not identify at first the berry used but was pleasantly surprised when told. This is a must visit while visiting St.GeorgeWe look forward to coming again.
