Chocolate orange was delicious!!!!!!! Absolutely enjoyed this experience. Not usually a fan of chocolate flavored anything but the orange was wonderful.

Small shop with authentic Italian gelato. The lack of food coloring is the true test. Very cute with outside seating.

Old Town Alexandria can be a tourist trap if you don't know where to go or access to the local-"in crowd" on where to go. I myself would confess to being a zombie tourist if it were not for all the crowd-sourced reviews and convenient map search features. This long-winded review intro is meant to steer you off-the-beaten-path, away from touristy stuff, and see what little shops lurk in the edges off *streets of royalty* ( ahem, I meant look at what's out there beyond King Street, Prince Street, or Duke Street ).And in the case of Casa Rosada Gelato, you would literally walk pass it given recent construction that forces the relocated front entrance to be hidden deep off some loading bay alley (the pictures says it all). The alleyway is almost 25 paces off the main street and there are no signs except for some Casa Rosada icon on paper taped to a plywood board where the front entrance would be. Had to band up with a visiting family of 5 to go gelato hunting for the front entrance. It's especially scary at night and yet so fun too given how dark the entire surrounding intersection block is with no cars or people in sight. But the gelato is good - way better than the throw-back-themed ice cream chain shops that promise to top sweetened air-filled cream (ie. normal ice cream) with rainbow covered sugar that's meant to distract you from all the air you are buying in your ice cream. With most gelato classic flavors available, we opted to go 'off-the-beaten-path' theme and go for walnut and madeira wine gelato. Tasting both flavors mixed was a symphony of flavors I doubt you can find anywhere else in this Old Town.

Excellent ice cream and always nice welcoming staff!
Really really good gelato that’s homemade and has vegan dairy free options! The vegan chocolate tasted like real chocolate ice cream! They also had gluten free cones which made the experience so much better! I got vegan pistachio which was really good too!Dietary restrictions: Dairy free
Where to start? I'm not big on ice cream but this place has made me crave it like no other place. They have a limited batch of flavors available as pints, depending on the season. They also serve afogato, which is an espresso dripped on top of ice cream - my new favorite way to have ice cream. The inside is cramped so don't go expecting to hang out for a long time, rather take your ice cream to go. The staff is always prompt and curteous with me when I go order my ice cream.
500 pounds of sugar and not gelato.... It's honestly way too sweet and not the correct density to be gelato. I had to throw it away after 4 spoons...

While I'm not usually a fan of ice cream, I must admit that the pistachio one at this place is truly exceptional! It has completely won me over, and now I can't resist coming back just for a scoop of that heavenly treat!

So, so good. Hello legitimate vegan gelato!!! On a whim while down in the area, I remembered having happened upon Casa Rosada while looking for vegan ice cream haunts a while ago. Fortunately, they have great hours, including on weekends. Unfortunately, they are a challenge to find (do not rely on your gps - it's on South Payne between Commerce and King and even then, the door points you to a little alley where you find a fence that you open and go to the ACTUAL door.) Be not dissuaded. Once you enter in the tiny space (room for four only - no indoor seating), they have the most interesting and impressive selection of gelatos including sorbets, vegan and sugar free varieties. I even saw a dog cup too. I tried the vegan vanilla gelato, hubby tried the strawberry gelato. He loved it, I loved it. We are already plotting when we will go back and when we were sitting in the car, his only buyers remorse was that he hadn't gotten a larger size. I was also impressed that the vegan flavors are met separately, completely eliminating any risk of cross contamination. So smart.

I love that they're family owned, have unique flavors, as well as vegan options. You can sample any of the flavors. I actually preffered the vegan pumpkin over the regular dairy one. The vegan ones are soy and coconut based and theyre not as icey and are still pretty creamy compared to other vegan ice creams ive had. The walnut cream was so good! Lots of pieces of nuts and a great amount of walnut flavor. There's good outdoor seating but it's also nice to just walk around outside the station.
