This is the best Mexican restaurant on route 1 / that we've discovered in this area. The food is authentic and delicious. Every time we go it's good! And the tres leches is to die for. Highly recommend.

The service is slow & staff didn't greet/acknowledge customers right away so it was easiest to sit at the bar then wait until someone finally came over. One of the two servers seemed to focus on Spanish-speaking patrons. The tacos were decent but they don't allow you to customize anything. For some reason, after asking for 1 topping to be switched/removed, they provided 2 pork tacos with only cheese so I had a request a side then use the salsa verde for the chips to make them more delectable. I like that parking is available and they had good music along with TVs to watch. The menus were beat up & exterior could use some cleaning up.

3.5 starsTL;DR: don't eat salsa til they bring you water, skip the chicken taco, GET the al pastor taco & pineapple marg, and bring me some too. We had dinner here for the first time last night. It was pretty good, and we'd come back. It was a Saturday night, and it was busy but not crowded, no reservations needed. Vaguely apathetic service took off a star. It took a really long time to get our drinks, including water. My mouth was on fire from the salsa (a med I take makes my mouth more sensitive to spicy things than most people ) for a while before we got anything to drink, and the waiter refused to let me add chipotle Mayo to my chicken taco (it was on a few other varieties of tacos, so I still have no idea why he wouldn't do it), so my chicken taco was really dry. I was dumping anything I could find onto it to make it edible. Nice flavor, but onions don't equal sauce. I ordered pinto beans, got black beans, but was happy with the mixup bc they were delicious. But the real stars, and the reasons we'll come back, were the pineapple margarita and the Al pastor taco. Huge chunks of roasted pineapple in perfectly cooked and juicy meat made that taco the best "street taco" I've ever had, and I order al pastor at most places I've been that serve it. The pineapple margarita was very yummy too, light and fresh, no artificial sugar syrup here, and was worth the wait to get it.

Great experience here. Warm, attentive service and delicious food. Came here on a date night. Menu has classics and innovation. I got the queso fundido and huaracha with mushrooms and spinach - it was spectacular. Wonderful experience.

My family and friends love this place! I'm a wimp and think it's too spicy for me. lol, but it's very good! Don't be fooled by by how a little dated it is. The employees are awesome too! Very welcoming.

Probably the best Mexican food in Richmond. The chilaquiles came with a carne asada, the salsa was great, carnitas amazing. Kids loved the rolled tacos and quesadilla. Looking forward to coming back and trying everything else they have.

Do not judge a book by its cover. The restaurant may not look like much from outside, but the staff is First Class, the seating is comfortable, and the food is among the best Mexican food we've ever had. Wide selection of choices; reasonably priced. We really like the fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas. Friends of ours are regular customers; we will go back again and again. Lots of parking right outside the restaurant.

Excellent food and margaritas. Maybe the best fajitas I've ever had.Service was complicated, we had multiple people waiting on us, so we had to ask more than once for refills, but nothing intolerable.Highly recommend.

As others have pointed out, service is erratic. The cadre of mostly young men that comprise the wait staff often seem disengaged for a restaurant that can become very busy at dinner time. But the food (I've had the guacamole and chips, Ceviche de Pescado, Camarones a la Diabla, as well as the wild mushroom, fish and shrimp tacos) is very good, fairly priced and presentation is decent. There's an extensive drink menu with several different selections of Mezcal and Tequila. But few times I've ordered drinks, I have not been wowed. However, If the owner invested a little more time in training the wait staff and putting decent signage out side the restaurant and sprucing up the parking lot, he or she would have a real winner on their hands.

The service was superb as well as the food. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I ordered a mezcal and was initially given the right one, but when I went to order another, I was not given what I initially ordered. I asked the waiter about it, and he returned the drink to the bar and brought what he assumed was the correct one. I again tried it and confirmed it was again not the same drink. It was then when the waiter went to personally check with the bartender, who informed him that he had ran out of the original mezcal I'd ordered, thus he wouldn't charge me for this one.But it took me asking for my drink to be changed twice for this to be informed to me. Had I not asked about it, I would've been made to pay for a drink I was not provided. On a better note, the mole enchiladas were amazing! I love mole and finding places with good mole in the area is not common. Nice place, but definitely needs a bit more ambiance for dinner time.Vegetarian options: Nogales and hutlacoche options

Really, really amazing food. The complimentary salsas are SO GOOD. Guacamole and queso fundido are delicious, and the portions are big enough to split between two people. I got the flautas de pollo as an entre and they were so good...perfectly crunchy and delicious. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and passionate about the food. The atmosphere is VERY casual (you seat yourself, and they leave you alone unless you flag them down, and I think some reviewers mistook this for being ignored), but if you need absolutely anything they are very obliging. We had had a hard time finding decent Mexican in the area...I'm very glad we finally found this place!
