I ordered the Aged Chicken with Mushrooms. I guess this description is off putting to people since I see no reviews for it. It was good. A little salty, but most American style Chinese food is that way. As you can see from the photo it does have many random chicken parts so be prepared to use your fingers.

Great service was prepared quick and hot when I got it. The food was flavorful and fresh.. will be ordering more often. I got the general tso chicken lunch special.

Horrible service, servicer does not listen and seems to have an attitude...light bulbs flickering throughout the entire place so if you have Migraine, don't go there.

Since we live a block away, we have only done pickup from here. It does have a white tablecloth ambience inside. As vegans we find the menu contains many offerings using tofu, done Chinese- style. My favorite is sesame tofu. Brown rice is an option for most entrees. The vegetable spring rolls are OK despite being a little too "crunchy" for my palette. For takeout we have often received a complimentary cup of salted peanuts, a welcome touch. Our top choice for Chinese in Ballston.

Not bad. Local Arlington Chinese take out. Would definitely be OK as a go to back in Queens NY. They have Chow Fun which is a personal standard to break 2 stars. Only two soy sauce packets with a double entree seems a little frugal. Would order again.

Came here for Chinese New Year dinner. Workers were so kind, even though they were working on a holiday and were busier than usual. As a Chinese person, the all of the food was great and authentic. We all had an amazing time. We ordered: - Kung Pao Chicken (宫保鸡丁) - Garlic Bok Choy (上海青) - Mapo Tofu Fish (麻婆豆腐鱼) - Noodles with Pork (蚂蚁上树) - Seafood Tofu Soup (海鲜豆腐汤)

We ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce, shrimp lo mein, mapo tofu and snow pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, good level of spice, and hot and freshly cooked. My partner and I were staying in the hotel across the street and wanted a comforting and hot meal after work, and Hunan Gate hit the spot! We got takeout and the ordered was filled quickly -- great service!

1/29/24: Treated to lunch at Hunan Gate; upon entering I immediately became nostalgic because it reminded me of Mom/Pop restaurants just east of downtown that had several restaurants with placemats featuring the Chinese horoscope, etc. Although there was no buffet at the time, the Vegetarian Delight with brown sauce and steamed rice was very good; served hot and the portion was excellent. My phone was charging...so no photos of the delicious dishes that were ordered by the group ?. Person that treated us for lunch doubted that they had a to-go menu, but I politely asked anyway. The owner located one for me. Cover and a couple of pages are provided (prices may NOT be correct though- check online).Arlington, you have a gem of a Mop/Pop Chinese restaurant; help them stay in business ?...and if Hunan Chef ever has to leave Arlington to locate elsewhere, come to Southeast Texas ?.Vegetarian options: Nine full options, but if there is a dish viewed that you would like to try veggie, ASK nicely to see if the chefs can prepare it. I'm willing to bet they can....

Used to adore this place, but recently have had a string of quite inedible food - the last time we ordered takeout, we found some questionable charred bits in our fried rice and haven’t been able to bring ourselves go back.

Love this place. They have great Dongbei (northeastern Chinese) food. Get the guo bao rou (northeastern sweet and sour pork) and di san xian (a mix of peppers, eggplant, and potatoes).

Great food! There's a good selection of both Chinese-American and also traditional Chinese dishes here. Conveniently located across from the Ballston Metro station. The service could be a little more friendly, but it's largely okay.

Food is great! Even if it’s a flavor you don’t like the meat is always fresh. Also the owner and employees are always super friendly.

Kid-friendliness: It has been years since I dined here with my colleagues on our trip to Washington D.C. It is hard to find good Chinese in this region unless you are in Rockville, MD but this place has proved itself to be a wonderful substitute. The hot and sour soup has a spicy kick that is soothing on a snowy winter night. Their Chow Fun dishes, Mongolian Beef, and Spicy Fish have a soft consistency great for kids. Come by if you can.
