The best Japanese restaurant in Rosslyn by far! Lovely and super authentic Japanese food at a great price. Lots of different appetizers that you can’t find anywhere else in the area. Imported beer/sake with great selection. Very tasty entrees. Nice staff as well)

Great, underrated restaurant. Family owned and a more personal experience than some of the other sushi restaurants in the area.

The food was great and service was excellent. I will return next time I'm in the area.

I came in alone while visiting from Seattle and got the opportunity to talk with the owner Helen while I ate. She is one of the sweetest women I've ever met. Her and her husband (the sushi chef) have owned the restaurant for 20 years, and they know what they are doing. My samurai roll was amazing, tempura was crunchy and just right, even the miso soup was tasty!Covid has taken a toll on this little business, please don't miss eating here if you are in Arlington. The prices are great and the food is even better. It would be a tragedy if somewhere this good with owners so kind doesn't thrive!

I came here on a Friday for takeout lunch. A rather small and lowkey place. I got the roll combo and a miso soup. The lunch also comes with a salad. The salad dressing was different than most places but still good. The soup was ok. The sushi itself was good for the price so it really depends if you are looking for quality or price.

Hidden gem in Rossyln. Small, family-owned restaurant and a very nice couple. They have fast service and the best priced sushi in the area and high quality too! Will absolutely be making this a regular go-to spot.

This location is bottom of the barrel with customer service. I simply needed to order a shrimp tempura roll and was told NO. I had to order from the specified lunch menu only. Note they have a full menu. It was due to o lu ha being 2 workers. I honestly didn’t mind waiting for what I wanted to pay for. So I will not be returning.

I wish I researched restaurants better before our visit in June 2022. We went to the nearest Japanese restaurant from our hotel looking to eat some katsu. We ordered 3 takeout dinners and the bag felt unusually light when we left the restaurant. When we got back to our hotel and opened the styrofoam containers, there was barely any food. Half as much katsu as other restaurants typically give. Miso soup had 1 or 2 tiny pieces of tofu and no seaweed. Tasted like it came straight from a packet. We felt totally ripped off! A few nights later, we tried eating at Toryumon in the same area and it was hands down superior in every way!

Great food! I always loved japanese cruisine and I can tell that they always serve fresh food, the prices are reasonable of course. the japanese have such raw food and they need best ones to avoid poisoining. thumbs up! 10/10 recommended.

Our family ordered takeout. Nice clean area with relaxing patio. The food was okay but portions were tiny. Katsudon was a thin layer of perhaps 5 narrow katsu pieces over rice. Egg was pretty much non existent. Chicken katsu was equally lacking. Miso soup was plain with 1 or 2 tiny cubes of tofu and no seaweed. Not enough to fill our stomachs.

Everything was delicious: the sushi, the teriyaki, and even the miso soup. Will be going back.

I love Kanpai restaurant - they're such a wonderful little locally owned restaurant that's one of the best Japanese comfort-food spots in the DMV. Kanpai is best known for their fantastic lunch specials. When I worked in the neighborhood I would go over and get a wonderful katsu lunch plate for right around $10. But Kanpai is even better for dinner, and if Rosslyn was more active in the evenings I think Kanpai get the recognition it deserves.I love going to Kanpai in the evening and enjoying their really well curated list of noodle dish specials like nabeyaki udon and zaru soba depending on the season. You can even get handmade yaki onigiri that looks and tastes flawless. Any place that keeps a natto handroll on the menu cares about the details - I don't even like natto and I still order it every time I go just on principle.Give Kanpai a chance to be more than a business lunch and you'll find a real neighborhood gem.

Kanpai is an interesting local place to grab Japanese food, though I find it hard to recommend them for a few reasons. Came here with a number of work friends to get lunch to take back to the office and it seems we may have overwhelmed them a bit. The staff member who took our order did her best to keep it organized but things got a bit wild when it came time to pick up our individual orders. In retrospect, putting in one group order probably would have been better but lesson learned. I opted for the chicken special, as the price ($7) was fantastic and the menu photo looked amazing. While the chicken part of it was great and the rice was good, the vegetables and soup were not and I only made it halfway through them before having to toss the rest out. The portions were fair for a lunch, so it was more the quality of the food that detracted from it. I understand having a number of people inside your store might not be ideal with covid running around, though asking us all to sit outside in the cold wasn't a fun alternative. I might give them another try in the future, though for now I think I will enjoy trying out other area spots before taking the risk of a consecutive mediocre experience. Overall: 3.0 stars ----- Pros: - Great daily special deals. - Menu is impressive, plenty to choose from. - Interior is intimate and attractive. Cons: - Skip the soup and vegetable sides, they do not taste nearly as good as they look. - Service was a bit disorganized and insistent, would probably return with a smaller party for a better experience.
