Spent all day at VA Hospital and leaving my daughter to decide where to eat was a challenge because I’m in a motorized wheelchair. we pulled into the back of Portabellos to see if I could fit and the owner came out to say he would put me through the window if I couldn’t fit thru the door. (Kidding, I think). He was so hospitable and made us feel welcomed. Our dinner’s was perfectly made to our liking and was brought out very fast. (No food or water for me all day)On my way out the back door I thanked the two chef’s in the kitchen and said this was my first time hear, but will not be my last. Don’t know your first names but I will learn them soon.Thank you for being YOU! Maurine And Lori

Excellent everything. If there was a 6 star rating I’d give it. If you’re in the DMV I strongly recommend you try Portabellos. Reservations recommended.

Delicious varied menu with an impressive wine list. It was full but not too loud or crowded. We had (and recommend) the hamburger, beef lasagna, and black bean soup.

Love Portobellos! Omg - the lamb with rice and broccoli is amazing. And, MJ always provides warm yummy bread with the meal. Once you become a regular, he remembers your drink of choice and dietary restrictions. It’s quiet - no blaring TVs - so you can actually talk to the person you are with. I’ve never had a bad meal here. In fact, the food is wonderful!

Love Portobellos! I've never had a bad meal here. My favorite is the lamb with rice and broccoli. Generous portions and always warm bread on the side. And MJ,the owner, knows my dietary restrictions and drink of choice! No loud TVs blaring so you can actually speak to your partner. I highly recommend!

MJ offered a Thanksgiving dinner that was the best I have eaten (I’m 75). The portions were generous. The turkey was moist and vegetables seasoned well and not overcooked. Congratulations on a job well done.

This was one of our go-to restaurants before the pandemic. Really good food at reasonable prices. Happy to report their carry out dishes are delicious and the prices are still reasonable! Two of us split the hanger steak, mushroom ravioli and their goat cheese salad. Truly wonderful meal! Check it out.

We just had a wonderful meal on Monday night from Portabello. The portobello mushroom stuffed with crabmeat appetizer was delicious and Portobello. It was so large, I finished it the next day. The scallop/squid risotto was creamy and tasty. The shrimp were not overcooked. Once again, so large that it might last 3 meals. The cod with mashed potatos, asparagus and chardonnay sauce was delicate and tasty. The cod was tender and cooked perfectly. The tiramisu was unfortunately so good that I finished if all that night. Everything was delicious but I have to caution that it all had cream and is definitely not low cal. We picked up the food exactly at the time it was supposed to be ready and did not trust any delivery services. As a result, it was still very warm and did not need to be reheated when we got it home. Just love Portabello!

Portobellos is an outstanding, family-owned local restaurant where we have enjoyed takeout nearly every week the last two months. Whether it’s standbys like grilled ribeye steak, fresh lump crab cakes, seafood and saffron risotto, or pistachio crusted breast of chicken, or specials like rainbow trout with mashed potatoes and spinach, everything has been cooked to perfection. Prices are very reasonable. Portabellos easily accommodates Gluten Free restrictions, with several GF appetizers, entrees and desserts. Highly recommend.

This is my favorite restaurant. Owner is a gem. Food is delicious. Our favorite pandemic takeout. I love the Shrimp and Grits but tried the Pistachio Crusted Breast of Chicken last night which was excellent. And I really like how the owner keeps safety (not only customers but his staff as well) at the forefront when determining plans for reopening beyond takeout. Thanks Portabellos!

I have never dined in this restaurant, but ordered from them four or five times during Covid. Each time the food and service were fantastic. I've ordered the Firecracker Shrimp a few times, and they were excellent each time - flavorful sauce and lightly fried. The hanger steak that I had recently was a high-quality cut and was cooked perfectly. Their seafood has also been consistently excellent, including the scallops and crab cakes.

Love this place!! Delicious food, still managing to provide specials in this difficult time, and always ready in no time. It's my husband and my go-to place for a nice dinner at home, to celebrate the best we can during COVID, and also still affordable enough to pick up when we just can't figure out dinner. Doing our best to support this great neighborhood restaurant during unprecedented times. Favorites are crab cakes, scallops, and the firecracker shrimp--we're from Boston and can be picky about our seafood, but Portabellos always hits seafood out of the park!!

Outstanding meals, so glad we discovered this gem, a long-standing, family oriented restaurant. All the takeout meals we ordered two nights in a row were excellent: grilled ribeye steak, pistachio crusted breast of chicken, seafood and saffron risotto, shrimp and grits, fresh lump crab cakes and fresh scallops Provençal. They can accommodate Gluten-Free restrictions. Generous portions and reasonable prices. So glad we finally discovered Portabellos.

This place is is just deliciousness! I got this as a treat before moving to Florida, and I can't express how good the food is at Portabellos, the flavors just pop in your mouth. From the chicken with orzo, to the butternut ravioli, and the focaccia bread...simply divine. And MJ is of course the cherry on top of the cake :).
