This place is bottom barrel I've had better sushi from costco i got the chishami sushi dinner and i got excited when they first brought it out because the plating was nice but once i started to eat i almost threw up the texture was horrible and slimy and the taste was bad like it was old so i ordered a California roll which was okay. Our waiter was rude and unhelpful but the other waitress did most of the work for our table even though she wasn't our waitress i gave it 2 stars in hope that they will read this and learn from their mistakes because sushi is one of my favorite foods and i hope to have more sushi in town.

First. Omakase always. The Staff and Food are unmatched, from food and drink recommendations to the service, awesome and friendly. Always fresh & filling. It's location is a little small but they have a touch sensitive bar top!

The sushi all basically tasted the same; like grocery store or all-you-can-eat buffet sushi. That's fine if it were priced like those two options, but it's not. It's priced at upscale sushi restaurant priced with two pages of rolls at $20-30 each.It was very nicely plated and the service was friendly.

We arrived around noon on a Thursday in January. It wasn’t busy. Typical interior for a strip mall restaurant. Nothing fancy, just booths and tables. They do have one big screen that is rotating between various pictures. Nicely designed and packaged menus. The napkins are paper but they are engraved. The service was pretty good, and we got our meals fairly quickly. We were sadly disappointed in the food. My spouse got the eel roll and shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp and eel were tough. The flavor was ok, and they didn’t go crazy with the rice. The miso soup and salad were typical. The shrimp Bento box was not great. The shrimp were tough and the vegetables were overcooked. The whole dish was swimming in sauce. The California roll was ok but one of the four pieces was missing most of the good stuff and was mainly rice. The fried rice was bland. It had a few scattered peas and one sliver of egg. The highlight for me was the dumplings. They were light and very flavorful. They offer beer, wine and a full bar. The prices were average for the area.

I overall enjoy this restaurant. I have been several times and have not found it to be too crowded or loud. The food is good. Others have mentioned stomach issues, but I have not had any and my stomach is kinda sensitive. I wasn't a big fan of the combo sushi I had recently or the calamari, but overall I have otherwise enjoyed my meals. I like their miso ramen (my soup order) and veggie sushi (my friends' order).

The good; My hibachi chicken tasted pretty good. The questionable; My stomach was hurting later at night after eating at Akira and my chicken may have been undercooked. The ugly; The waitress spilled a complete side of salad dressing all over my clothes as she was serving it to another member of my party. I had to go into the bathroom and wash my clothes for several minutes. At no point did the waitress offer to rectify the situation. At the end of our meal I asked if they could comp my meal due to her spilling the dressing all over my clothes. She told our party that they could not comp my meal, but stated she could discount my meal. The discount she offered was 10% off my meal only. We had a party of 5 and this equated to her offering us $1.80 off (my meal was $18) our party of 5 bill. I understand making mistakes, but I find this response unacceptable and I would not recommend this restaurant based on how they handled this situation.

Not impressed with the taste of the ramen. The boiled egg in the ramen was very salty.I asked my husband to go to my truck and grab my jacket because I was cold. Just as my husband was leaving, the restaurant manager jumps up and quickly runs to the door and starts looking out the glass door and then stops a his track realizing that my husband was not trying to dine and dash. The manager looks at me and sees that I’m watching him the entire time and acts as if nothing happened. But yet he’s still watching my husband like a hawk! So sad. All the more reason it to return. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you want to get jumped by the manager for grabbing a jacket out of your vehicle while your wife is still stilling in the restaurant eating.

A true hidden gem! I did not eat in, but the atmosphere is a total vibe! I picked up a lunch bento box, and I believe that will be my lunch for the rest of my time here in Charlottesville, which will be an eternity. Everything was absolutely amazing, very good portion sizes and the flavors were exploding in my mouth.

Three stars is being generous.I ordered online. I got a notification that my food was ready. It took me 15 minutes after that notification for it to actually be ready because I arrived and they told me they were still making it.The portions are relatively small and overpriced. I had the calamari - they gave me 5-6 rings and charged ~$2 per ring. It was fairly bland and the dipping sauce they gave me was overpoweringly sweet. The pork katsu ramen was also underwhelming. You get half a marinated egg with it - mine was peeled pretty roughly. The pork katsu itself was meager and pounded wafer thin. The bean sprouts are raw, which would be fine with pho, but in a dish like this, it overpowers the broth, which is only lightly seasoned. The broth is also fairly thin and the noodles were overcooked to the point of no chewiness at all.For the prices they charged, you'd think that they would offer so much more. Instead, it feels like I got somewhat scammed.I know it's Charlottesville and the food scene is nothing to write home about, but I think we deserve better ramen than this. This is not authentic and really disappointing.

I’ve never had sushi that made me feel sick until now. The sushi rice tasted stale, the miso was very diluted, and the hibachi chicken came out cold and too salty. Now, I get that the restaurant may have been understaffed, as there was only one lady working eight tables, but there should be more waiters to alleviate her workload then. Due to the shortage of staff, the service was almost non existent. The sushi rolls were also not fresh tasting and I can honestly say whole foods serves better sushi. Would not go back.

Came for restaurant week. Didn’t do the $35 deal because I did the math with the menu and it was cheaper to just order item individually. Meal took 1.5 hours— Waited a half hour before our order was taken. For apps we got gyoza and pork buns. The gyoza were barely warm and didn’t seem to be recently pan fried. The pork buns were hard in certain areas like they were stale or something. We ate one bite and then just the meat inside.Dinners were some sushi rolls and chicken hibachi. Both were good but not special. With the prices where they are, there are much better options in cville for this cuisine. They were under staffed with one woman essentially carrying the whole restaurant ops. While I have empathy for her, there’s no excuse for the business. it’s Friday night and running a restaurant week deal. Gotta do better in a foodie hub like cville.

This place looks like a great spot for sushi! enjoyed the chef's choice love boat, the soup, and the salad. The atmosphere looks nice and the decoration is artistic, too.
