The chicken was cooked to tasty perfection. All the sides were packed with favor and shareable portions. We will definitely be back. Great price point for all organic offerings. Small place adds to its charm.

This is now on rotation! What a great place. We lucked into a last minute reservation. Service was impeccable. Food was amazing! Saw room for the olive oil cake with fresh whipped cream. It is amazing. My only regret is that we didn’t get to try ALL the sides. They all looked amazing.

Really delicious food. They also did a fantastic job accommodating my unusual allergy—had notes prepped in advance of what could be modified, which was a lot! Great atmosphere.Dietary restrictions: Great at accommodating an unusual allergy.

What a wonderful place! Great staff, great food, great welcoming ambience. Menu items are not extensive but everything was beautifully prepared, really delicious. Great cocktails and a superb, reasonable wine list. I have to force myself to review places like this because I’m afraid they’ll get even busier. But heck, they deserve it!

Every. Single. Dish. Incredible. We literally ordered almost everything on the menu and licked every plate clean except the cabbage between just the two of us. The absolute musts were the chicken confit, polenta, celery salad and chicken. But we really also did love how fresh the green salad was and the potatoes au gratin were also amazing. My boyfriend really enjoyed the cabbage but I could have done without it. Flavorful, a little pickled, a little sweet and a little spicy. If you're in Charlottesville - this is a must try spot. Cute little hole in the wall with really really great quality food. If I were local, I'd definitely come back. Service was attentive and friendly also!

I came in on a Friday evening for a to-go order and was so impressed by the meal! I got the quarter white chicken, gratin, and olive oil cake. The staff helped with their recommendations which was great as I can be indecisive. The chicken was soooo flavorful and moist. The gratin? Absolutely delicious and a hefty portion too. The cake was really good even after refrigerating it for a day. I will definitely return the next time I’m in town!

You want perfectly cooked chicken and amazing sides? Get here asap. Fav sides were chicken confit and the scalloped potatoes. Comfort food to the max.

This may be the best restaurant in Charlottesville. Make a reservation (necessary!) and try it out. You won’t be disappointed!

Went to Birdhouse for the first time last week and loved it. Service was great; chicken was tender and tasty. Sides were awesome - almost like "small plates," really. Can't wait to go back.

Tried birdhouse for the first time. Service was good. The place is cute and small. No AC but it was still comfortable. The macaroni and cheese broccolini and potato gratin were really great. The chicken was good. I would recommend a reservation because they seem to have limited chickens. I felt like the wine/beer was a bit overpriced. Fun to go with a group and share. Overall was a nice meal

We had heard rave reviews about the food here so we made a reservation along with our friend and ate here on June 2, 2023. The rotisserie chicken was not as special as I'd been led to believe it would be. It was not seasoned to my taste and was a bit dry. The collard greens and potato gratin were very good. It was extremely noisy in the very small dining room with poor acoustics and hard to have a conversation over the din. The wait staff were attentive. Of great concern was the access into the building itself. The steps are uneven and there were weeds and other vegetation growing through the cracks in the concrete. There was no railing for safety. As older people this was difficult to navigate with confidence. We would not dine here again.

A tiny, perfect, wonderful restaurant. Probably about 10 tables total, and a few seats at the bar. True to its name, chicken is the focus of the menu - rotisserie chicken (quarter, half, or whole bird) and excellent sides (potatoes au gratin, greens, garlicky beans, etc.) Add the excellent celery-and-olive salad and grilled sourdough bread and you have yourself a meal. Just be sure to leave room for the olive oil cake and some great coffee.
