I was visiting the area for a concert, and my friend and I stumbled upon this place. It had an excellent selection of beer and the bartenders were very informative and helpful when choosing the right beer for us. I was not hungry, but my friend got a huge chicken sandwich that smelled and looked delicious. Additionally, they have a bookshelf of games, so my friend and I were able to drink beer, have some food, and play some cards games, too. Overall, atmosphere is a busy yet casual beer hall. I will definitely return to this place next time I am in the area.

Fantastic beer selection, fun atmosphere. Large selection of games for the table. However the food did not meet expectations; would not return for dinner.

Food was adequate. I think (hope? pray?) it'd be better a few beers in. The beer menu was great, but the food was overcooked and under-flavored. And the competing noise of the TVs and music bouncing around in the uninsulated space was disorienting. The staff never came back to enquire whether the "medium" burgers were burnt to the carbonaceous crusts they were.

A great beer hall space. Good selection of beers on tap. You order at a central desk and they give you a number so they know where to deliver your food. The jumbo pretzel was like butter and goes very well with the beer cheese. The calamari was delicious, as were the Korean pork ribs. The wings were good but they were a bit on the tiny size. The brie burger was a decent portion with a sizable side salad. But the alpine sausage platter wasn't much of a platter, with one small jagerwurst and one small bratwurst, which we ordered for the table. Not worth $25. Wound up getting the kielbasa with the pretzel roll, which overall seems like a better value, as it comes with a heaping portion of fries, but unfortunately the pretzel roll was much harder than the Bavarian pretzel and tougher to bite into. Wait staff was great though as were the bartenders, and service was fast.

This place can get packed on game days. Food was fine. The pretzel is good, but kinda small for the price. The veggie burger was pretty good and came with lots of fries. Roasted Fennel with miso yogurt had very nice presentation, but the price was not worth the amount of food you get. Overall, it’s okay. Would rather visit during happy hour or some time when it is not crazy. They have an outdoor seating area that is covered and protected from the elements, but it was still cold under there. Service was fast though, so it didn’t make waiting in the cold too bad. Also, they have veggie options and lots of beverages to choose from.

Picnic tables. You order beers at a counter and food too. Lots of beers on tap. German style food which I thought was well done. People were friendly. It is a bit on the loud side. Small parking lot.

A good selection of beers, I ordered the Alsin Strazberry fruited IPA, it tasted so artificial.

I was in Charlottesville and wanted to watch the games and I stumbled upon this place. Seemed like a hangout for UVA students. Good food, good service and a good vibe. They had quite a few vegetarian and keto-friendly options. The crispy garlic brussel sprouts with ranch were my favorite. I didn't drink but I heard the cocktails were really good here. If you're in the area, check this place out.Vegetarian options: They had quite a few vegetarian and keto-friendly options.Dietary restrictions: They had quite a few vegetarian and keto-friendly options.

Dear Kardinal Hall,I did not know when I moved to Charlottesville that there would be a true German Beer Hall feel. I have fallen in love with your vibe. The way your staff get to take care of everyone like a true team. The way we can sit at a table for hours, playing games, drinking with friends, or working out of the office, and not be worried about taking up a server’s section. I truly feel at home here. You provide the space and time I need to truly unwind, relax, or get work done. You are so good with kids. I don’t have any, but everyone in town with kids seems to have figured out that this is the perfect spot to bring them, while also adulting. Thanks for providing us with a great stock of games, and even Bocce! And also letting us bring our own games if we prefer, and not judging us for being level 11 nerds.Your food is SO GOOD.Can I tell you something, Kardinal Hall? I can’t drink beer. My beer-loving partner is always happy with your choices, and you never let him down. You also never let me down. Wine, NA options, and seasonal cocktails that hit the spot… You’ve got it all.Remember that one time that we came for that work thing with all the people? Yeah. That was like… fifty times. Because you are the perfect place for happy hour, scheduling a private event, or watching The Game (Insert sport).Your formula is amazing. You are crushing it, Kardinal Hall. Let’s be besties forever.

Had the salmon BLT sandwich and it was really good! The ingredients were very fresh and portions were huge. My only suggestion would be the addition of capers -- the sandwich was just a tad bland and I think capers or onions would have really elevated the sandwich and cut through some of the blandness. The ambiance is great and perfect for a family. Seat yourself and go to the bar to order. High chairs for toddlers are provided.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly with a nice kids menu! My son ordered the sliders and his entree came with a mountain of French fries.

What a fun place to visit in our tour of Charlottesville. Food was good and high priced as is much of this area. Lots and lots on tap. Lots of fun board games to borrow. Only downside was that the (not local) college football games on tvs kept having their volumes turned up even as people continually cleared out (so obviously not watching these games). Made it hard to talk to others at our same table.

Both fried calamari and steamed mussels were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Wish it was less than an hour drive from me in Culpeper!

Food is good, and portions are beyond generous. Good selection of beer. Service was attentive, and the bar poured what I asked quickly. There is nothing bad to say about this establishment.
