My mother and I had lunch there on January 23, 2024. I got a chicken and cheese quesadilla which had very small chunks of hard chicken in the center with a little bit of cheese. There was a heaping pile of rice compared to the small quesadilla. My mother got a burrito which she said was fair, refried beans which were liquefied, and a dark brown hard taco shell with very little meat and a ton of lettuce in it. We were very disappointed and will not go back.

Menus are updated with sharpie and you can see their prices have increased drastically. I paid $12.50 for a lunch burrito, taco and tostada. This would be $9 most other places and would be of better quality. The beef was watery because they cook it with tomatoes, and it has very little seasoning. Very little cheese is used. Just very bland. They charge you for chips and salsa after first (small) basket. Whole place gave off a barely making ends meet vibe, and they are trying to make it up at the expense of the customer. Lots of confusing extra charges on the menu so it's not clear what you are expected to pay. You have better options. Go somewhere else. This place needs to revamp their menu and business model completely, otherwise I doubt it will be around much longer.

Very rude staff refused to correct food to suit allergy information even after agreeing to alterations of items when ordered when asked to fix the food was told these I shouldn’t order items that have items I’m allergic too because the menu is how it is when asked why they accepted to change the order from the beginning when I placed the Order I was met with silence and a short refund without my tax on it for either incorrect item when I asked about the rest of the money some how out of this 3 item order that cost $60+ I got a refund of $27 and that just raises the question since when is you just your fajita plate $33 I’ve been eating here since 2011-12 and I’ve never been so disappointed in this placeDietary restrictions: Was told if your allergic to any item in there menu items such as certain vegetables I. A dish don’t order anything on their menu that has it in it because even thought they will take your money and agree to take that item out it’s still very possibly in there because that’s just how they do things. Worst customer service ever

Very bad service, the bean was sour and when I told the waiter he got upset, and they also charged me for the dish that I left uneaten, okay, I paid for it. But I will never return very very bad experience

Sadly disappointed from being informed after the fact they substituted a part of my meal but not getting chips with the meal doesn't help. Seems ridiculously priced for what you get.

Overpriced for the portion that you receive. Will not be coming back here.El Pureto is much better, especially the one in Staunton.

Had dinner here last evening and was underwhelmed. Language barrier with the wait staff who did not understand the request for a glass of water to drink. Enchiladas and burritos had no cheese which was odd. If you are in this area I suggest you go to Taco Bell across the street.

This is a diamond in the rough. So glad we stopped to try it. My lunch special #3 was so good. And my daughter had #4. Hers was also really good. I've never seen her clear the plate so fast. The plate didn't have time to cool down. The waitress was amazing. I will definitely go back.

I was very excited to try La Joya, and ordered takeout tonight. Got the veggie chimis for my other half and the #1 dinner combo for me, and wow. I'm blown away, and not in a good way.The food quality is good. Not great, but good. I saw reviews that claimed "la Joya ain't no texmex" or whatever- but to be honest, I fail to distinguish anything special about this food that is any different from, say, Guadalajara.Speaking of Guadalajara- my main gripe with La Joya is that the serving sizes are absolutely pathetic when you take into account the price and quality of them. My other halfs' "two" chimichangas were NOT two chimichangas, but rather one that was cut in half to look like two. I could've ordered Guadalajara instead and got the exact same quality food for the same price, but I would have received double the amount of food. Oh, and they would've given me chips and salsa, which La Joya did not.I'm glad I tried La Joya once, despite it being remarkably disappointing. Unless they decide to up their portions, I recommend supporting Guadalajara instead.

Authentic home cooking in a Mayan tradition. If you want Tex'Mex, you won't find it here, but this food reminds me of the local hangouts in the Yucatan and Guatemala. Key here is authentic - not fancy, just hearty and very flavorful.Dietary restrictions: If you ask nicely, the people here will, if it is possible, prepare your meal without any ingredients you specify.

Very bland food spent $50 dollars. It wasn’t good

The food was just ok, didn't seem like a lot of love went in it if you know what I mean. It did take us a while to get our food once we ordered and the chips tasted a little

I dislike writing poor reviews, especially for small businesses. But this place was a let down. The food was average, portions small, prices high. We were the only table at the place and when we asked them to adjust the temperature (it was hot!) we were told that the front A/C was broken. I took my son to the bathroom and the toilet wouldn't flush, so when we came out I informed the staff. I got a dirty look and was told that "it was working fine 20 minutes ago." Yikes. Won't be going back.
