A friend had Easter dinner delivered to my family while we visiting our son at UVA Hospital 2024. The food was amazing, the order delivered on time and hot. Fried chicken, yams, macaroni & cheese, collard greens and cornbread. Best soul food we have ever eaten. Thank you Soul Food Joint for a job well done. Really solid food. Was my first time in Charlottesville and was open to try any kind of food. Walked in and knew the food would be good. The vibe in the restaurant is homey and the man cooking the food made it with care. He also gave me a couple free sodas and waters on the way out. Good luck on the new location.

We called Soul Food Joint on a Sunday and asked if they could make us a half pan of fried chicken for a family lunch by 11:30. Not only did they have it ready early, but they delivered it to our house and it was the most delicious fried chicken I have ever had! Thank you Shaun, you saved the day!

I recently visited the establishment, and unfortunately, it was a highly disappointing experience. The staff, particularly the person assisting us, seemed uninformed about the menu and couldn't provide basic information like the cooking time for cornbread. This lack of knowledge raises concerns about entrusting them with more crucial tasks, like cooking chicken.Moreover, we were informed that we wouldn't receive a full meal, yet we were still expected to pay the same price. The explanation given was that they were just getting started, and the portions were smaller, but this was not reflected in the pricing. As someone visiting from two hours away, this was both frustrating and disheartening.I had hoped for a positive experience, but unfortunately, I left feeling let down. I feel it's important to share my honest feedback, and I hope improvements can be made for future patrons.

Soon as you walked in it smelled like fried food my kinda place lol. I had the fried fish it was hot and amazing. Also had potato salad that was good too considering everyone can't make it. Greens were meh. Pulled pork and BBQ chicken were also good! Server/cook were welcoming and friendly. I will definitely come back.

Don’t order online. I order a 51 dollar meal for my friend and I because we really wanted to try the platters. Turns out the placed was closed. I called the owner the next day to ask if I could just pick up the food that day, and he said of course and gave me a time to come. I show up and it’s closed again?! I tried calling to just get a refund because I already drove back and fourth twice to the restaurant but he stopped answering calls, and now I have to go to the bank to dispute a charge for food I haven’t received. Im a college student, I don’t have money to pour down the drain.

10/10 unmatched. Came in on a Friday night was immediately greeted and enthusiastically served. Genuinely feels as though they care about the food they serve. Was given unexpected appetizers that did NOT disappoint. Growing up in the south I know a thing or two about good home cooked meals and this is incomparable. If you’re ever in the Charlottesville area looking for a good home cooked southern meal and good hospitality- highly recommend and encourage you to dine in and don’t forget to ask about the fried deviled eggs ?Parking: Plenty of street parking and a parking garage within walking that is well accommodated.
I was really craving some soul food and Mel’s was closed so I thought I try out this restaurant. The food was HORRIBLE. Look at how dry the corn bread is. It was falling apart. The mac and cheese was absolutely nasty. The greens were flavorless. The only decent item on the plate was the chicken. Not worth spending $25 for one plate. Save your money. I’ve gotten better quality at kfc and Popeyes. To add on I placed an order through the website and it said it would be ready at a certain time. They didn’t start preparing the food till I walked in at that time.

Vibes were nice and owner took care of us well. Food took a little while, but it came out fresh, fried well, and presented well. Only issue was the salt. Everything we got (Mac n cheese especially) was SUPER salty and we couldn’t finish our food. Not sure if this was a one time mistake or not, but either way, less than ideal.
