Pleasant place with kind staff. Food was nice. At first, we were delighted because they offer all their sandwiches on gluten free bread. This is so rare and so wonderful that we always try to patronize places like this. But after we got our sandwiches we realized that my partner’s was not gluten free. We only realized this because I also got a sandwich and the bread looked the same. Had I gotten something else we may not have realized until my partner got very sick. They did remake the sandwich but they should not have charged us for this. We had to wait a long time and this wasn’t our fault.

Everything we've tried here over the years has been super delicious. The brie, fig, and speck crostini is one of my favorite snacks/small plates of all time anywhere. There's kind of a rotating cast of sandwiches, salads, and soups and it's always tasty with super fresh tasting ingredients and great flavor combinations.

I absolutely love this place for a light lunch or social event. It is all ordered at the counter and self seated which makes for a convienent place for social gatherings with payment (no splitting checks). The menu definitely has something for everyone or options to share with others. They have great sandwhich options but also good starters that others can dig into. I personally loved the Stonefruit Burrata and the Butter and Chevre. The service is also very quick and the staff are kind! Highly reccomend if you are looking for a high end, locally sourced lunch snacks!

We came here for a late lunch on a Friday and it was absolutely perfect!! The sandwiches were toasty and delicious. I had the pork sandwich/Cuban sandwich/something along those lines and it was fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of pickles, but the pickles on this were a necessity to achieve the perfect flavor combo. I loved the carrot slaw, but we did have mixed reviews for it within my lunch group. I loved that they had plenty of water for us to refill our carafe at while enjoying the beautiful weather. 10/10 experience and I wish I lived here, so that I could come back!

Had a long day of sightseeing and walking. Wanted to relax with a good glass of wine and light/small plate. stopped here and sat at the bar. The server/bartender did not know about the wine(s). I asked for a DRY white wine. After consulting with other I was given a (quarter glass) ACIDIC SWEET medicinal wine.The POUR was ridiculous. I do NOT expect wine to be poured to the rim - I know wine - but it should NOT be poured BELOW HALF. Generally, it is poured JUST ABOVE the half-way mark.They wanted $13 for this.I didn't wait for the food. I canceled the order and left. Found another place nearby with GOOD WINE, GOOD POUR and knowledgeable servers.
Tilman's is one of my favorite places to eat and is always one of my first stops when I'm in Charlottesville (I live in Delaware)! I've dined here several times before but last weekend was special as I have been going on and on about how good the food is to my oldest daughter and we finally had the chance to go together. The weather was perfect (on 5/21) and we dined outside in the beautiful mall seating area. I ordered my usuals....the Brie, fig and speck crostini and Tilman's meatballs. My daughter had the caprese panini with carrot salad. All were absolute perfection! The Brie crostini is to die for.....I've tried unsuccessfully to create this dish at home and it doesn't even come close! The meatballs are melt in your mouth delicious...seasoned perfectly and the sauce is mouth watering good! My daughter raved about her caprese panini and carrot salad. Portions are generous and we ordered waaaay too much food for 2 people lol I love the quaint atmosphere inside and was very impressed with the excellent service we received in the outside dining area. I will be back in town this coming weekend and will stop at Tilman's first chance I get! I always say I want to try something different but I can't pass up my usuals! Maybe I'll bring a cooler this time so I can bring some home with me. Great job, Tilman's! Highly recommend!

To begin, my wife and I didn't know what to expect with this gem along the downtown pedestrian mall in Charlottesville, but it was an intriguing concept given the counter service for ordering. We're so glad we made the decision. They were quite attentive in the sense of bringing food and drinks out right away, refilling out water carafe and engaging in conversation when that was appropriate. As you can see from my photos, there's a bit of a store concept also here with unique food and beverage related products. Because we hadn't been here before, we did opt for reservations. It is worth noting that dining at the bar in the back was another option. We both had european style sandwiches which were quite delicious and on the lighter side, which is what we wanted this particular evening. That also helped to keep the cost down. The cocktail I had was lovely as well. This was a great example of being rewarded for being open to a new experience, which is what travel is (or should be) ultimately all about. Check it out!Parking: While this is part of the pedestrian mall, there are plenty of garages and on-street parking along the outer perimeter of the mall itself. We chose to use ride-sharing, which worked very well for our purposes.

A beautiful space with kind service! We stopped in for their traditional cake and a macaron. They only serve french press coffee but it was yummy. Love that you can serve yourself with the carafe of water!

Definitely good vibes in this place! It's casual and cool. I tried the hermit crab wine and it was delightful! Full-bodied for a white, so on the weirder side. So good though. We'll be back for the cheese board. Didn't have any food, but I'm sure it's all great. The bar area is very cool. Staff seemed nice and friendly. We will be back next time we're in Cville!

Tilman's is one of my favorite places to eat and is always one of my first stops when I'm in Charlottesville (I live in Delaware)!
