Having had Thai food before (South Commercial St, Salem, Oregon) I guess I was expecting the same Great and Delicious flavors, Understandablely, this is not Oregon, I understand that, But, I had been trying to find Thai food here in Virginia since I returned home in 2022, So my expectations were extremely high when finally someone suggested the Moon River Thai Bistro. I drove all the way from Martinsville to find this place, drove past it twice because my GPS kept sending me around in circles, So, I pulled over and called the Restaurant, a very friendly voice answered the phone (Jesse) who directed right to the restaurant. Once there I was greeted by that same voice as I walked in. I was seated, given some water(very cold) yay..I knew what I wanted to order, Drunken noodles with Shrimp, I forgot to say "Hold the pepper flakes" my fault...The salad they give you had a peanut sauce, Jesse kindly brought me one with Ranch, and He was kind enough to ask if I had a peanut allergy? No I replied, just didn't care for the sauce. I ordered the Iced Thai tea( interesting taste, not a fan, AGAIN, my fault) I ordered the Veggie rolls (Definitely not a fan of these either) Again, trying something new. Finally the Noodles arrived, And once again I forgot to omit the pepper flakes, I eventually got pass the burning and coughing from the heat of the flakes and I managed to eat it without disturbing the other patrons. Jesse was very patient with Me and did what He could to help Me enjoy the Meal. Thanks Jesse. I did leave a very good Tip, because I thought He had earned it. As for trying it again?? Probably not, But, if you're into spicy food and a relaxing atmosphere with low conversations and a hole in the wall kind of feel, By all means, This Bistro is for You. To each His own I guess..?Parking: Plenty of parking spaces for you, finding the place takes some getting used to.

Hands down best Thai restaurant I've been to on the mainland. I'm originally from Hawaii and constantly regret trying to enjoy any sort of Asian cuisine here on the mainland but this place could give the restaurants back home a run for their money. The service is great and the quirky layout adds to make this a special place to visit.

I love this place! All around 5 stars for me. I actually believed I didn’t like Thai food until tonight. This was the best food I’ve had in months eating out. The atmosphere was calm, relaxing feels, and beautiful. The food was perfect! Delicious! We had the salad and the dressing alone would make me return. My husband and I both ordered crispy roles and veggie curry. It was incredible! They came w a side of rice that was flavorful without added sauces. The food came out steaming hot.Last but not least, the service was the best. What the restaurant world is missing. We were greeted immediately, we didn’t feel rushed to order, and our server explained the menu since it was our first time trying Thai. Very kind and patient.I look forward to making this a go to spot.Vegetarian options: Exchanging veggies for meat in any dish is an option, giving you a larger selection here.
Our first experience trying Thai. Wow, it was amazing! Had the crispy vegetable rolls, soup and salad and lamb stew. Was so delicious. Service was fast and Friendly. Definitely going back.

Moon River Thai Bistro is truly one of my favorite restaurants in the area (I highly recommend the yellow curry with vegetables). During a recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it's under new ownership. The new owner and the entire staff are incredibly kind and polite, making sure every customer has a delightful experience.The food is palatable, bursting with an abundance of flavor. The new owner's dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience is truly commendable.The ambiance is warm, and welcoming, and has a quaint and intimate feel. It adds to the overall charm of the place, making it a perfect spot for a cozy meal.I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Thai cuisine and a fantastic dining experience. Kudos to the new owner and the team for their outstanding service!
