We stopped by the 29 Diner by happen chance on a road trip to New Orleans back in 2019..there were 7 adults traveling together and we had been driving for a long time, it was time to stop, and grab some food. We had gone into the Denny's across the street, (for the love of all mankind, don't go there, it was a horrible experience), it was later at night. Needless to say, Denny's was a disaster, we walked out and looked around, spotted 29 Diner and took a chance... what an incredible place! Sherry was our server, she was a gem! The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and so was Sherry!! The Diner was actually quite busy, we thought for the time of night we were there, but you wouldn't have known that from the top notch service we received! Sherry made us all feel like we were old friends.I'm sorry I didn't post this review closer to when we were there, I should have!! Instead, I posted a review about how horrible Denny's was, where I said, Don't go there, instead, go to the 29 Diner, across the street and ask for Sherry! I have and will continue to recommend this Diner. I hope it opens back up soon so the next time I'm in Virginia, i can stop by again..

Loved it. The food was really good, service was fast and the server was nice. I will come back here again sometime down the line.

This place has become my go to diner. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The menu is varied and they will cook to order. The smoker (out front) draws you in with that wonderful smell and ribs that come out are amazing. Give them a try!

Great little diner, on a busy street and with fairly limited parking. Great food (especially the fresh pies and smoked meats), great prices, friendly service. For those who care about community involvement, they participate in a lot of the fundraisers for Fairfax High School, their assorted extracurricular activities (like the band and so on), and assorted causes such as veteran suicide prevention. Unfortunately, they had a late-night kitchen fire in mid-November 2021 and are closed at least for now. I'm hoping it's only temporary.

Fantastic experience. Top-tier service, delicious comfort food options, and great prices. Will definitely be back!

So I ate here once years ago and while I am local, I am pretty peeved with them today. I attached a photo of the big sign you see right outside of 29 Diner and they were pretty busy when I pulled in. Parking was a little difficult, but I managed and came in. I put my mask on and said I wanted the bbq deal and the waitress immediately said it wasn't available, not until 5 pm. She didn't say that I could order a different BBQ item or anything else, just not available, sorry goodbye. I am working later and with my luck, even if I do come back, I will probably come back and be told it's only available at this time and I am too late. Or they don't have enough BBQ. I work a lot and I drive by it on a regular basis and I don't see them open that often and the one time I do I get shut down. If it's only for dinner time, they ought to put that somewhere on the sign as I had a merry time backing up and getting out of the parking lot.

Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, huge portions of good food. Breakfast for two (with enough leftovers for at least another breakfast) was $36 before a well-earned tip. No one--staff or customers--wears a mask, though.

Amazing food and service. I haven't had service that good sense I left the south. Also bbq was great!

Sadly, unimpressed. The waitress was wonderful, but the BBQ was pretty poor - very dry and obviously reheated. Other food might be better, but the BBQ was definitely lacking.

Great family-fare BBQ, served by a classy family plus one really lovely waitress (see pic) who is too shy (angelic?) to give her name. Try the brisket (my daughter's choice) with a delish milkshake on the side. The pulled pork is utterly to die for! Breakfast choices (served all day?) are always freshly prepared and will revive your wearied soul. Owner John Wood takes pride in being a community-supporter, and his personable charitable character is apparent all throughout the diner. Sit outside under heaven on earth, just be wary of the smokers (meat smokers, lol!) and the occasional noisy traffic. Inside is another world itself, like a museum. Once you try this Fairfax institution, you will come again and again. Bring the family! ?✝️⚜️??

Nothing like supporting a local business that gives so much back to his community and others!!! Truly a blessing to so many people... Oh, and the BBQ Pork and Beef Brisket is pretty amazing to... ;-)

Great smokey barbecue breakfast/brunch experience! Their shakes are to die for and they definitely do NOT skimp on any of their portion sizes.

Haven't been here since 1993. I have no doubt the coffee is still the best around! Pancakes the size of manhole cover….... Just a nice slice of Fairfax!

Great service, great food, great prices, great cause! Don't just go to eat, go to give a little extra back to those who fought for our right to have it. Also, get the pieces. They make them fresh.
