“As a bowling alley, it's great and very reasonably priced for the area. It can get busy on rainy weekend days, especially in the summer when kids bowl for free. We've also attended a couple of birthday parties there and they do a good job. I work nearby and go MUCH more often for lunch than I do for bowling, so this review is primarily for the Vortex Grill. They've changed their menu a couple times in the past few years, I think responding to requests for more healthy and quick options for lunch on this side of Ft Belvoir. That said, I really miss a couple of the salads that they used to offer (please bring back the Kristen and Mike's salads!), but they have expanded their non-salad offering of "healthier" items, which mostly means that fries no longer come with everything, you can choose from several add-on options for a side, there are more fish options (which I can't bring myself to try at a bowling alley...I wonder how well they sell), and a lot of sandwiches don't come with cheese. I could take it or leave these "healthier" menu options and usually get a salad. When I want to treat myself, I get a burger. Overall, the food used to be more consistent than it is now. I don't know if it's a result of the menu changes or trying to be "healthier," but their food is popular in my office and I've seen some major flops from them lately. Patty melts not fully grilled, chicken wraps made with nasty chicken, ingredients screwed up in salads, etc. I'm giving them a four because the bowling alley itself is great. Five stars for bowling, 2.5 for the Vortex Grill, and I would have given the Vortex Grill four stars a few years ago.“
“Pretty good for a quick bite to eat when you are craving Asian cuisine. Could have more option to choose from but it is what it is. The cook walking around with a cigarette in his ear was a bit of a turn off but hey the food tasted great. ?“

“Everything about this place was great. The decor takes you to Greece, you feel like you're on a side street in Mykonos. I reserved this for Mother's Day Brunch. They accommodated my daughter's gluten allergy well and the food was delicious. I will definitely be back.“

“I went here with my family for my birthday. I always love little French restaurants like this. Great service and a wonderful atmosphere. A rotating cast of servers always made sure things were taken care of. The food was spectacular, savory and great portion sizes. Definitely one of those restaurants where you can just size, take it all in, and enjoy yourself. I hope to return soon!“

“First time here on a Friday night. We had reservations that were mixed up. Even though the restaurant was expected to be full they accommodated the 6 of us. The owner came over to greet us. I told him that this was my first visit. (Everyone else had been several times) Oh then he proceeded to bring bite size samples for me to try. He then offered up suggestions as to what I need to have for an appetizer, main course and even dessert. Food bursts with flavor. But the real experience here was the service. First class. Thank you all for the dining experience.“

“Absolutely great sushi and great service! Ordered the dragon roll, salmon lover roll, volcano roll, and 2 California rolls. Everything was perfect. We ordered take out after eating there several days prior (second pic with flying dragon roll). I’d say the price is very reasonable for such delicious and fresh sushi. Service was excellent. Will be our go to place for both dine in and take out!“

“This was my first visit, a suggestion from my sister. I started with the crab hush puppies (delicious!). As an entree, I chose the creole shrimp fettuccini (very good). My server (Amy-excellent!) was attentive and engaging, which enhanced my overall experience. The whole atmosphere had a vibe that was very inclusive and fun. I will definitely return.“

“Mama Cheng is a decent Chinese spot. It's slightly upscale with good effort on the décor and the prices will reflect that. The waitresses were very attentive and the food came out relatively fast. If you're planning dinner on weekends, you should reserve in advance. 30-minute to an hour wait is typical for walk-ins during peak hours. The lamb skewers and cauliflower tempuras were my favorite. The duck is average. Fried snow pea leaves and mapo tofu are the dishes you must get. The tofu in mapo tofu is so silky soft that it feels like they make them from scratch. Please beware that their menu tends to be changing over time. It's possible that they no longer serve some of the dishes in the pictures you see on Yelp and Google.VERDICT: Good Chinese option for a not-too-often big family dinner“

“Nazareth is one of the best Ethiopian restaurant in town! The food is authentic and delicious. We ordered TIBS FIRFIR, chickina tibs and Goden tibs served over Njera in family style platter. The Tibs is a perfect balance of spicy and savory. The Y was crispy on the outside and soft chewy on the inside. The ribs firfir is flavorful and satisfying and the portions were huge! The Njera was warm to the touch - a very nice touch! The service is impeccable. The atmosphere at Nazareth is casual and inviting. The owner even came out of the kitchen to greet us and ask about our experience.Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Nazareth. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great Ethiopian dining experience.“

“It was definitely busy, but not overcrowded for Mother’s Day. The service was nothing short of excellent. We got our drinks from the bar exceptionally quick. They were fantastic as well. We were never without anything we needed as the wait staff was extremely attentive. Two managers came up to our table to apologize for the “food delay” except none of us felt we were waiting long. To them, it was too long and that shows how much they pride themselves in service. To us it felt like a normal day at a busier restaurant. Our food was outstanding. Everything cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I will definitely be back.“

“First time ever at a German restaurant and I wasn’t disappointed! As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a warm welcome. The ambiance is classic and cozy. We started off with the Cevapcici Appetizer and it was delicious! I had the seafood and rice special and the seafood was well seasoned with a good portion of perfectly cooked rice. Ended the meal with the Apfelkuechle with ice cream and it was phenomenal! Light but very tasty! Service was superb! Very friendly and attentive. Will definitely revisit this little Old Town gem! Can’t wait for the summer to enjoy their beautiful patio.“

“Amazing food and service. This restaurant is perfect for vegetarians interested in trying vegetarian versions of authentic Vietnamese specials like shaky beef or bun Bo hue. I got the shaky beef and really enjoyed it. We also got the spring rolls, wontons, tapioca dumplings, and Thai basil chicken. The vegetarian vermicelli platter is one of the most popular dishes here. I loved everything! The wontons were awesome and ate everything because it was so tasty. I don't think I can go wrong with whatever you get.“

“We were on vacation and happened down this way looking for a late meal (it was about 8pm). Most shops were closed but Guapo's was open and bustling so we gave it a shot. Their free appetizer chips were incredible, especially if you get a fresh warm batch, and the pico and salsa (not sure of ingredients but warm brown dip). Wife got a chimichanga which she loves and I got a combo of cheese and chicken enchiladas which were fabulous! We came back at the end of our trip and had margaritas which were best I've had (not too sweet or "alcohol-y) in a while. That led to a 2nd dinner which I ordered the Cinco De Mayo platter expecting a couple fajitas. I read the menu wrong because what arrived to the table took most of the available space: a plate with three BBQ pork ribs, strips of grilled chicken, strips of tender steak, chorizo, fajita onions/peppers, and two of their shrimps as well as a second plate with baked beans and yellow rice and a third plate with scoops of pico, guacamole, and sour cream and a basket with three free warm tortillas. Every single thing on this plate was out of this world delicious!!! Pricing was very reasonable too, staff were very friendly but soft spoken and the atmosphere inside was pretty noisy (although patio/outdoor seating is nice if the weather is to your liking). They had desert too but I didn't get any because I was too full both visits. We ended up eating at a nearby restaurant on a different day and the value comparison was night and day. Guapo's is your best value on this street in Shirlington regardless if you're looking at taste, price, or customer friendliness (hours, staff, atmosphere)Parking: We walked or took public transit so I don't have first hand experience but appeared to be street parking with some free and some paid spots depending if you were on the strip or a side street. You're going to have a hard time regardless. There's a grocery store at the end of the road which did have a parking lot which you might be able to utilize but I recommend bus or walking.Kid-friendliness: Inside it's a bit loud but the walls have decorations like six shooters and mariachi paintings which would have amused or started a conversation with my kids. They had customers with birthdays and the staff do a unique performance and provide a sombrero which again would have amused and delighted my children to see. I think as long as your kiddos like Mexican food and can handle a bit of loudness then its a good balance between kid friendly and adult friendly atmosphere.“

“Best latte in Burke 10/10. This morning, I accidentally ordered a latte before the café opened. When I realized my mistake, I had to rush to my doctor's appointment and couldn't pick up the drink. I called to explain, and although it had already been made, I couldn't retrieve it until after my appointment. However, when I returned later, the kind girl behind the counter (didn't catch her name) kindly remade the latte for free. I'm grateful for her understanding and generosity. Thank you!“

“This place is the best in the northern Virginia area. “It was my turn to pick where "girls lunch" would be this month. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for several months so of course it was my first thought. I was hesitant though, because I had recently tried a Korean restaurant closer to my home that also had great reviews and was very disappointed. That food, like many other similar places, tasted like nothing but oil. Everything tasted the same....oil, oil, oil.I threw the idea out to the girls anyway, sent them the menu and got the thumbs up. On the way to lunch we talked about other Korean restaurants we tried in the area, how I was disappointed in the one I tried and how one friend tried a place in Manassas and thought it was good. Let me tell you, she changed her tune with her first bite. All that could be heard from our table were loud MMMMM's, You need to try this and OMG's! We could not stop talking about how good the food was, how flavorful it was and how surprising it was to actually find a place that tasted authentic and FRESH. I was the champion of the day for choosing this establishment. Go me!The fried rice was even great reheated. I didn't have to add water because it was dry. The flavor was still there. The to-go order still tasted great (according to my husband) and the leftovers for that meal also reheated well and maintained its flavor.I don't normally take screenshots of my food but I wanted to show my husband what we tried so I included it here for effect.I really wanted to keep this place as my secret little gem but the food is so good, the staff is great and they deserve a shout out so,SHOUT OUT TO SU AND THE CREW! We'll be back soon!Dietary restrictions: They are happy to accommodate dietary restrictions as best they can.“

“Osteria da Nino is very nice place, family-owned restaurant. It is at a good location, close to parking lot and other shopping centers. More importantly, it is 10 minutes away from Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We had a great welcome by the owner. Our server was Alex. Four of us had a dinner reservation at this restaurant. After dinner, we went to a show (Shear Madness) at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We ordered the following and here are my ratings Drinks (Baby Amarone, Tito, Spritz, Mojito, Bellini) - 9/10 Food (Octupus, Garlic Bread, Eggplant Parm, Fusili Crab Meat, Margherita Pizza) - 9/10 Desserts (Tiramisu) - **5/10** and Cappuccino - 9/10 Service - 9/10 I always feel there is a scope to improve the quality of the food. So, maximum score is 9 out 10. Tiramisu - It is not to the standard, and it is based on my experience eating Italian food for more than 30 years at other restaurants in NY, NJ, PA, DE, VA and MD. Also, this is my favorite dessert, especially if I am at an Italian restaurant. I strongly recommend Osteria Da Nino and will go back with more friends!!“

“We just randomly picked this for brunch before we drive back home after a weekend in DC. I'm not exaggerating that is was the best part of the trip. I took pictures cuz it was so beautiful. “I visited this establishment during the week just after 2 pm for lunch. They offer gyros, sandwiches, quesadillas, and rice meals with various levels of spice. I enjoyed my gyro and didn't get heartburn, which is a win. And, while I haven't desired to return, I received a good meal with quality service that was accurate. They are open pretty late, which has to be considered a benefit if one is out and about on a night mission or is young and free of responsibility and needs to take a break from their game of mojong to fill their belly. The workers were friendly, the service was fast, and I found the ingredients to be fresh and of quality.I would visit again and would like to try their rice dishes.“

“Looking for a fun activity with our family before Thanksgiving, we chose bowling. The prices were definitely cheaper than commercial locations. The place was clean with stations every few lanes with balls organized by color and weight. There were ramps available for anyone to use if necessary. There is also the ability to set bumpers to raise and lower for an individual in your group. You have the ability to edit your score, which is great because a few times pins would fall on their own and add to the score. There were options for scoring using regular bowling rules or other fun games. While we didn’t eat there, but there were plenty of food and drink selections. My only issue was the balls were very oily and the finger holes were very small. Staff said that’s how they were ordered but offered me a small container of baby powder to use.“
