This place is great. They were kind enough to let me sample their potato salad before making my decision as to whether I wanted it. (I loved it). I had the gumbo as well and it was really good. My husband also got catfish and fried shrimp.The cocktail sauce is the best I have ever tasted.Everything was above expectations including the service.

I would have to say the others reviews led my friend on to this place. I was skeptical but It was all dissolved when I tasted the fish and shrimp.I had the 2 piece catfish and 6 shrimp combo. This came with 3 hush puppies and 2 sides. For my sides I had green beans and because you all had suggested on reviews to try the beans. I got red beans and rice. My sides where very delicious. I did not see anything wrong with the decor of the restaurant in fact it was quite clean. I even saw the young lady come from registers and sanitized the booths.The drink options are fountain or bottle soda and water. Thier is tea but at the time I went it was weak and not very good tasting.The staff greet you well and are very friendly.I giving this 5 stars for great atmosphere and awesome food and great service.

Everything was delicious!! We had the 12 Shrimp Meal, 2 Fish & 2 Shrimp, and 3x3x3 with coleslaw, red beans & rice, green beans, Mac & cheese. Wow!!! We will be back sooner than later!!

In today’s times of rising restaurant prices and not necessarily rising quality, Southern Sam’s is a jewel among meals. It is our go to place for a fair priced, nice size delicious meal. The fried shrimp salad is a go to favorite. The salad is large and fresh with a choice of dressings. A hearty portion of lightly fried delicious shrimp comes on the side in a different container to not wilt the salad. It is a wonderful lunch or dinner. The fried fish entrees are delicious as well. A nice portion of fish comes with tasty hush puppies and choice of two nice size sides. We’ve eaten here many times and are never disappointed, whether eating in or taking out.

Wow I’m so so surprised. I ordered the dirty rice n beans Mac n cheese and 5 jumbo wings and yes they are very large. nothing looks appealing but it taste much better than it looks, wings are made to order and very crispy the rice n beans are the most surprising item that I’ve tried perfect flavor while the Mac & cheese is satisfactory it leaves something to be desired. All and all 9/10 for a fair price

I ordered the 2 fish and 2 shrimp, it was delicious! I will definitely be coming back here. The service we received was excellent. I believe the owner was there on the grill. He made sure to ask us and other customers if everything was to our satisfaction. Its clear he really cares about his restaurant and the quality of his product. 10/10 would recommend.

Went to Sam's after a wonderful hike with my dog after reading reviews. The owner (?) was friendly and helped me choose as all choices were good. Ordered the 3x3x3. The food was fresh to order, delicious, and the perfect amount with some leftovers. Sauces were a nice compliment. What was very impressive was that I could tell the shrimp, oysters and catfish were fried in clean oil. That is to say the food was very light and not greasy at all! I even looked on the paper in which the food was served and could not see any spills or pools oil. So delicious! Next time my dog and I are this way to go hiking will stop by for sure for another round or try something new! Oh, and it was great as we took the food back to the hiking spot and ate outside... Everything was still crisp and hot!

All I can say is....if you want the best southern tasting catfish in VA, come to Sam's. The portion size is spot on...the flavor of the fish is AMAZING and I've never been disappointed.Don't even get me started on how tasty all the side items are because I don't have enough adjectives to describe the taste of them all. Sam’s Southern Eatery has the best fried and grilled catfish and shrimp I have ever had! The owner is amazing and they provide the best customer service. :-) We grab food here for lunch on a regular basis and I grab the family meal deals to take home on occasion, I’ve never once been disappointed with anything they serve! I definitely recommend them!
Fried shrimp was cooked perfectly and I agree with another reviewer who said “best cocktail sauce” they’ve ever had. Beans and rice had the perfect a mouth of heat. Can’t wait to come back and try other menu items. BTW the 5 Chicken Strip meal is huge. If you think you can handle… go for it!

The people who work there, along with the people who enjoy this place obviously DO NOT know what southern food is. REAL red beans and rice has onions, peppers, andouille, celery, with spices and seasonings poured over a bed of white rice. This place gives you a side of white rice in a styrofoam container, and then a side of kidney beans (right out of the can) in a styrofoam container. Same with their green beans. Right out of a can. No seasoning, no flavor. Fried green tomatoes cut in halves with no taste. Fried chicken liver that cuts the roof of your mouth. Horrible! I have no objection to people from other countries owning a business here, but the owners are NOT southern. Not even American. Not being funny, but I'm black. How would I look opening/owning a Chinese restaurant??? See the ridiculousness in that?

We were looking for fish sandwiches and decided to give this place a try. It was nice and clean and the customer service was great. We ordered the catfish poboy and it hit the spot! The servings were generous and everything was fresh and delicious. Sam's sauce was yummm. I'm picky about my fries and they were on point! We'll definitely be back!

Sam's Southern Eatery is like a walk down memory lane. I've actually have been a fan for many months. The staff is very helpful and attentive. The menu is filled with all sorts of southern cuisine. I particularly love the fried chicken gizzard meal with 2 sides. Also, the fried green tomatoes appetizer is delightful. There are fish and chicken dishes as well as burgers and such.
