Over the weekend, I decided to check this place out. To be honest, it has been on my radar since the summer when I was looking up places for takeout during the pandemic. It turns out they are known in the Hampton Roads area and even have TV commercials I believe. Plus, the food is reasonable so it won't break your wallet. So why not give it a go? After I placed orders for me and my girlfriend (which took 10 minutes), I arrive with just 1-2 people ahead of me. Both were ready for pickup. I ordered a 2-piece white with fries and a roll and she ordered 3 whole wings with a side of mashed potatoes. We both agreed that it was nice to have some chicken that truly tasted homemade, even with the sides. It wasn't overly salty and the fries were a great side. When your girlfriend said she enjoys the meal, you know you picked a good place. So for our 2nd takeout, I order 3 piece tenders with fries and she ordered 3 piece mixed with 2 rolls and mashed potatoes. With her order, she requested 2 thighs and 1 leg, but they gave her 1 thigh, 1 leg and 1 wing. Call it a mix-up but she liked it. Were my tenders the best ever? No. Sadly, they don't offer dipping sauce, which could've helped the dish go to another level. But the dish was good. And here's the hard part for my review. Given that the place is very small, you would imagine they would have a limit as to how many people can be inside waiting for orders besides have a mask mandate to enter. But there were like up to 8 people behind the counter and no way we could be 6 feet apart. One family had masks on, but the mom had her nose uncovered and her son had his coming off from time to time. They were a good distance from me, but at the same time, you don't know if they were clear or not. And it appeared one of the staff members had no mask on at all. Just an uncomfortable feeling. Also, upon entering the building, there was a man outside walking around talking a lot. He said hello, but I don't know if he was waiting for somebody or looking for money for food to eat. Once I walked out with the orders, he asked if I had money to spare, and I said no. He had a mask on Thank God, but this occurring at night will scare some folks off. Would I come back? Yes, but they need to improve on COVID restrictions so that people like myself who have pre-existing conditions can feel safe during the 'new normal'. Just a thought....

My husband and I decided around midnight that we needed a snackie snack. I figured we would just get some McDonald's fries. Well turns out the two closest to use both closed at midnight. So we tried Doordash. We had three options to choose from so we decided Crown Fried Chicken it was. We never tried them before so we decided why not, something new and I would review it as well. I'm giving it 3/5 based off of taste. Since it was doordash the only thing I can say is things were packed nicely and our order was correct. But, taste... meh. So yes, the fried chicken was tasty. They are not huge pieces. The breast had little meat on it, the wing was just like a fried bone with a sliver of meat. The fries were good though. The mashed potatoes were the best side. The Mac and cheese lacked flavor. It was like watered down cheese on macaroni noodles. My husband got the gizzards. He was not impressed one bit. He actually threw them out, and that is saying something. He gets gizzards when possible, so this was not his first rodeo. The tenders were good. Dessert.... I got the banana pudding and the strawberry cheesecake. The cheesecake was good. Not 5 star good... like a Costco or Cheesecake Factory good, but like a Saralee cheesecake from Walmart good. Perfect for a sweet tooth craving. The banana pudding... meh. It lacked flavor. It was like a watered down cheap banana pudding topped with nilla wafer cookie wanna be. The quality was not there. You are better making it homemade. We decided we would not be trying them again. But, if you happen to go after reading my review stick with fried chicken, mashed potatoes and the strawberry cheesecake and you will be ok.

This is good fried chicken it seemed similar to a Korean style fried chicken in terms of salty flavor and crunchy consistency. We ordered a lot of fried chicken, coleslaw, fries, and onion rings. The onion rings, fries and chicken were greasy but a flavorful treat. The coleslaw seemed to have the expected contents , but was bland and vinegar-y. This is not a place I can eat daily given the greasy, salty yet delicious food, but I did enjoy this treat with my family.

With the pandemic I think more than ever in Hampton roads people are purchasing family orders of fried chicken and sides for their dinner tables. KFC has the smallest size of coleslaw and mashed potatoes I have ever seen with their dinners. Bojangles constantly runs out of everything, red beans, dirty rice, even fries one night. Come on! Crown chicken has not only good crispy fresh tasting chicken, they are always well stocked with, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and numerous other sides. The portion size is great. I appreciate this, I can't stand getting something at one place then running around looking for the rest somewhere else. Managers need to get on the ball at these places.

Highly disappointed. Employees not wearing masks or gloves. No one in restaurant was even trying to social distance. Ordered a 2 piece meal with at least one of them to be a breast. When I got home it was a thigh and a drum! Not wasting another dollar with this hole in the wall!

Pretty bad food! If have to buy it because it is halal I recommend not getting lamb over rice with sauce. That sauce was very disappointing to say the least

I decided to try this place out and the chicken here was extremely underwhelming. It was greasy and seemed like it had been sitting out for a long time. I would not recommend going to this place in the future.

These 5 stars reviews make me question my own taste buds. This food is nasty. The fries were just ok chicken was old & the fish was damn near green. We waited 20min because the reviews really hyped them up .

I decided to try this place out due to the reviews and due to lack of options thanks to the COVID19 pandemic and I was not disappointed! I wound up ordering from here two nights in a row. The portion sizes are huge for the money and the chicken was seasoned perfectly. As a professional chef myself I was highly satisfied with the food. The chicken was cooked to perfection! And even with the current pandemic they're still open late. I hope they're doing good business because I'd hate to see this place go when all this craziness is over. I also ordered one of each dessert and they were all good but the carrot cake and sweet potato cheesecake is where it's at y'all!

Crown Fried Chicken has finally made its way to Portsmouth, located on Airline Blvd, a rock throw from the water tower. I driving by looking for something good to eat, when I stumbled upon this jewel of a restaurant. I wanted some fried chicken so the owner and I had a brief conversation about who has the best tasting fried chicken. I told him that I like chicken that is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, tasty and cooked through and through. And he went to the warmer and gave me a chicken leg. What? Who does that? I was done, you could of stuck a fork in me. And yes this chicken is all that! George E.
