Southern Kitchen is a long-time institution in New Market. Get the fried chicken. Strangely, they serve beef gravy with the mashed potatoes, but it's real mashed potatoes. House made blue cheese salad dressing is really good. Skip the BLT, there's hardly anything to it, too skimpy and never got the mayonnaise we requested. Salads are fresh and generous. Don't expect gourmet, it hasn't changed in 50 years. The atmosphere and service are great.

The reuben sandwich was fabulous it's a must try if you LOVE corned beef! The owner is a very nice guy to talk too! The waitress that took me and my fiancé was very friendly and helpful!

Southern Kitchen is the best place in Shenandoah County and Rockingham County for good home style cooking. Their fried chicken is incredible. Plus their peanut soup is incredible you definitely need to try it

Parking: It's a large parking lot but some spots are a good walk away from the front of the buildingKid-friendliness: It's a diner so there is automatically plenty of kid friendly options. They provide crayons to keep kids occupied and the place is always bustling so no need to worry about keeping kids quiet. They are very accommodating for picky eaters.Wheelchair accessibility: There are several handicap spaces close to the door. There is a low grade ramp but the door opens outwards and is not automatic. The staff is very helpful, there are plenty of tables that can accommodate a wheelchair but it is an old building so it's a little crowded but a wheelchair will fit!

This is a greasy spoon. If you're from the south you will know what I mean. Meat and three kind of place with some additional items like a crab cake, various seafood etc. It's descent, and I was fine with my meal, but it isn't somewhere I would go out of my way to eat again. It's in a cute town, and it has an old country feel to it, which is nostalgic for me, but food is not bad, but not great. Just "fine". But I will at it was super popular with what I assume is the local crowd. We had a 15 min wait and it was packed on a Friday night.

Food is average at best, chicken is good but very expensive. Chicken Breast with one side is $9.00!! And it's small! One wing is $2.50. Mac and cheese was old and dry. French fries were made in dirty oil.
