We came here a few years ago and it was great. We’re visiting in Norfolk again, so we looked online this morning to see that their Google listing clearly states that they’re open. We drove across town only to discover they have been closed for renovations for the past month. It takes 60 seconds to update business hours on Google, but they didn’t take the time to do this which is very inconsiderate and unprofessional. We’re at Little Dog Diner down the street now, and will likely come here next time we’re in town rather than Charlie’s.

Drove 25 minutes to get there. Waited 40 plus minutes for my food. Paid $34 food for 2. Get home, I'm missing turkey sausage links, grits, and toast. French toast was ok, veggie omelet was ok, corn beef hash was good. I would try it again but no time soon.

When you walk inside it smells like a portapotty and the back area smells like cigarettes and pine sol. Not appetizing while you're trying to eat. The service was great, our waitress was attentive and kind. The food was decent- what you'd expect of a diner breakfast. One of us had pancakes the other the two eggs and meat. The food was good but nothing special. We were surprised to pay almost forty dollars for our food. Might be the current financial climate but I think the food is upcharged a bit for what it is.

This place has always been awesome from the first time i stepped in 20 years ago when I was a carpenter. Built in the early 1900s the site has been home to several interesting establishments over the last 120 plus years. Including the hit hotdog joint and Doumars rival Swanky Franks. Charley Ellison and his mother Gladys found the location absolutely amazing and Charlie's Cafe was born. As of today the service remains amazing and the the classic American comfort food is right on target. With generous portions and accordingly priced menu options... you'll leave full without an empty wallet. If you really want to know where Tom Hanks eats in Norfolk Va , you've found it.

I really wanted to like this place as it was recommended by some local friends and at first we were pleased by the fast seating and cozy dining area. The place didn't seem crowded at all for a Sunday brunch hour so we were shocked at how long our food took to come out, just 2 plates. I got the 2x2x2 with chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. The bacon and eggs were fine, nothing remarkable, but the pancakes were a bit dry. I wanted to ask for another butter packet but even taking my time to eat them in the hopes of our server coming by I ended up finishing them before that time could come. At this point we just wanted the check but it took about 15 minutes and 3 visits in the dining area before we had to call out so loud that everyone in the dining area looked over. We had been calling out and trying to wave her down that entire time and it's not a big room. I don't think it was targeted at us or anything. She wasn't rude and we overheard the other table commenting as well about the slow service. You could tell she was just very determined not too look anywhere but the ground or the table she was going in to service for whatever reason.

Their omelette is pretty good and pretty hefty. It fills your stomach very well to start off the day. However, I thought it was pretty greasy because there's a ton of grease that sits on the bottom of the takeout container. The breakfast potatoes are great, but you will need to use your own ketchup bottle because they don't provide enough. Sometimes on Saturday mornings, you have to order as soon as you can because the order ready time is not accurate as what it says on the grubhub app. One time, my fiance waited at the restaurant for 45 minutes after they said it was ready. Parking is street parking.

Whenever I am really hungry for a hearty breakfast. Beats IHOP, Dennys, & Waffle House. I compare it to a down home Metro Diner. Hash brown Platter w/ French Toast. AMAZING - FILLING !!

The food was almost really good my potatoes should of been cooked longer I did wait like 23 extra minutes on top of the 20 I we where quoted they did have handicap accessible ramp, honestly this place has the potential just seemed under staffed. Me tipping isn’t a reflection of Good or bad service it’s just my personal preference to be good to others All Praises to The Most High
