Went there with a small group of church ladies and made reservations the day before. Because it was close to 65 minutes before closing, not only did they not see the reservations, they didn't bother to seat us or apologize, and maybe they'll make things better the next. They weren't too friendly.

This was my 1st time ordering & I ordered ribs, collards and cabbage. Then the 2nd plate was hamburger on mashed potatoes and gravy with mac and cheese. Both came with cornbread! Everything was amazing! The ladies working there were so nice! I also got the strawberry pound cake….. So good!! Would recommend and do plan to return to try other menu options!

Maaaaaaaan me tell ya…The food was amazing. I had the fried shrimp as an appetizer and was blown away by the seasoning. The service was also amazing.The atmosphere was great, there’s always rnb music playing on the tvs and the decor just adds to it all. Really sad this place isn’t in Greenville SC.

Food was prepared with excellence!!! Down home cooking it was delicious and we were satisfied with the service the entire staff the Chef, the waitresses down to the owner of the restaurant. Friendly and served us well with excellence!!! This was our first time visit and we will be returning back!!!
Been in the area for about a year and recently discovered this place. When I tell you their food is EVERYTHING, I PROMISE you it is! We travel about 30 mins to obtain such tasty food! Nothing is overly seasoned, but everything is so flavorful! I love their meatloaf! The last one was not the best last week, but overall, I will continue buying from them!! It’s so filling! The cornbreaddddd! LAWD, it just tops off the MEAL!!! I wish they could sell turkey chops! I would just pack my things and live outside their door! Haha! Seriously though, hands down, the best soul food spot I’ve ever tasted! Keep up the great job guys!!!!
We were in the area looking for a good soul food restaurant, and came across SHUT YO MOUF, so we decided to try it and we was NOT disappointed , I don't even like fish but this place got me thinking twice, everything was good, I added the address to my favorite locations, now every time I leave the DC area headed south this will be on my stop rather it's time to eat or not am going to get something! I STRONGLY recommend this place!!

SHUT YOUR FREAKING MOUF!!! I came here with a party of 10 hungry fellas. We wrecked the menu, I thought I took more photos, but let me just say when the food hit the table we were all in without hesitation. We were greeted by the owner when we got there and she was so nice from getting us settled to going and doing the cooking. Our server was amazing in taking care of all of us efficiently had all of our drinks refilled without asking and gong the extra mile to handle different special requests that we had. At this point stop reading and just go you will not be disappointed.

They are the best, professional and gives your the inviting environment to want to come back. Sundays they have alcarte buffet, great lunch and dinner that's over worth it's value. The venue is well decorated, inviting, professional staff, fresh food that makes you want to order again just because its that good. I had what the menu called Smothered Turkey Wingsalso a side of rice & gravy. between the wings and the side of rice there may have been a table spoon of gravy, but at least what little gravy was there had some taste.The turkey only tasted like turkey, not seasoned at all.not my idea of soul food

This was my second time coming here thanks to my girlfriend's wanting of soulfood. I have enjoyed both visits thus far. While I do not remember what I had for supper the first visit, the second visit was a double fried pork chops smothered in classic brown gravy with a side of mashed potatoes & gravy and rice & gravy. Truth be told, my taste buds were overwhelmed with the seasoning of the gravy (my fault, not the restaurant). Other than the overabundance of gravy, I finished the pork chops and did find them delicious but will not get them again.Looking past the food, the building is unassuming. You won't know it's a restaurant unless you already knew. Parking is practically restricted to a small parking lot across the street. However, both visits did reveal Shut Yo Mouf is not a busy location. During our stay, only two other tables were occupied so parking and waiting is not a major issue, though it could be if handicapped.Overall, Shut Yo Mouf is a quaint little place that does have good soulfood. A TV plays various music from black artists which does enhance the atmosphere in my opinion. Give them a try if you crave for some soulfood.
