As I peared through the windows of the office, the skies were overcast, obstructing any sunbeams or heavenly constellations. Rain droplets matriculated down the windshield as I navigated to last night's dining experience. Now normally, on a night such as this, it would be a binge of Netflix series. However, it's DRVA night; and what's an adventure without something unexpected? Richmond's notable Church Hill District is home to a cozy, quaint, hidden jewel. Accents of orange, blues, ebony and cherrywood aesthetically pleased the sight, as the low lighting shimmered off the elaborate tin ceiling. New Love imbued the ambiance, as the couple next to me held hands and tasted each other's tantalizing dishes. They certainly chose a debonair locale as this spot was awarded Richmond's "Restaurant of the Year 2016." Ladies and Gentlemen of Discovering RVA, it's an honor to display the "Perfect Egg" of RVA, Dutch & Company. @dutchandcompany . Appetizer- PERFECT EGG~ Rye Crusted Egg, fresh Cured Salmon, topped with fresh Herbs & Sprouted Quinoa, placed on a bed of Braised Cabbage & accentuated by a artistic spread of Cumin Yogurt. . Entree- SCALLOP & DUMPLING~ Jumbo Sea Scallops and with a housemade, Pork filled Dumpling, with Bok Choy, Fennel, Chili Oil, & Citrus composed in a classic Japanese Dashi. . Wine Pairing- a glass of 2015 Fiano, Montesole, di Avellino, Campania, Italy . Dessert- HONEY POT~ A creamy Milk & Honey Panna Cotta, Gingersnap Crumble, with accents of Lemon & fresh Blueberry. . I felt like Winnie The Pooh! ROTFL. Fam, get this Honey Pot for your Honey! Usually, I try not to use flash, but I needed you to see what's inside. . Ashley- Thank you for your service and Congrats on the move. Welcome to RVA. . Sous Chef Matt Ondishko- Matt! 1st, thank you for taking the time to converse with me and taking a pic with your boy. The cuisine was nothing shy of delicious. Had a most memorable evening here last year. Enjoyed a drink before dinner in a sweet little nook while waiting for our table. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Very friendly helpful waitstaff. Ambience was warm and cheerful.

Just when I thought Dutch & Co. couldn't possibly get any better they started serving brunch! I never knew scrambled eggs could be so fluffy and delicious. Don't even get me started on their beignets with caramelized bananas. Simple perfection! Do yourself a favor and grab some brunch at Dutch and Co.

There's been a lot of anticipation for me around visiting this cute little place situated on the corner of a Church Hill block. The star aligned finally experienced the acclaimed Dutch & Co. My boyfriend and I have gone out a few times since restaurants in Richmond reopened, and Dutch & Co. has felt the safest as far as indoor dining. When you reserve a table the hostess tells you over the phone that you must keep your mask on until you order your entree or when you move around the restaurant. The server stands at least six feet away and they even provide a mini branded bottle of hand sanitizer you can take home. The restaurant is quaint and bares resemblance to The Roosevelt, with old pieces of art on the walls. The outside seating is composed of two benches. Our server was perfectly attentive, and every time we ordered a drink it arrived immediately. I ordered a Hummingbird cocktail for 12 dollars and although it was tasty I do feel like there it could've even larger and stronger. My boyfriend started off with a beef tartare and really enjoyed that. For entrees, I ordered carbonara for 17 dollars and he ordered halibut for 24 dollars. I liked his better because the corn had amazing flavor. The carbonara was good though and I think it was a good portion. It's their own take on it so it's not creamy, but still delicious. We didn't order dessert and our bill was about 120 dollars. We did have five drinks, so, we felt it was worth it because the food was yummy. By the way, there aren't that many options on the menu so I definitely recommend studying it before you arrive to make sure there's something you will like. I know they're famous for their perfect egg dish which I'll have to go back for. I recommend this restaurant for a cute date night spot and would return. I will say I do prefer the menu at The Roosevelt, though.

As a newer resident of Richmond because of Covid, Dutch has been my favorite restaurant in the city, thus far. They are one of the safest I have experienced in relation to Covid as they have a few outdoor tables, spaced out tables inside, provide free personal sanitizer, and ask to keep your mask on until you order. As for food, simply amazing. It sounds crazy to order a hot dog, but the RVA dog is crazy good with crab and pimento. I also love the melon salad. It's refreshing and a combination of flavors I have never had together. For something heavier, the carbonara is fantastic. I have been a couple times and have yet to have anything disappointing. It also appears they change up things a bit as the two melon salads I ordered on different days seemed a little different (which I appreciate), but both still amazing. I can't recommend this place enough.

A really great restaurant. The best beef tartare in town. Everything beautifully prepared and wonderful cocktails.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did! I'd be willing to try it again as maybe I just didn't order the right thing. We had a 7 pm res on Saturday night for my birthday. My husband and I skipped drinks since we had been winery/brewery hopping in Charlottesville all day.Appetizer: we got the "perfect egg". Not sure what I was expecting but the elements on the plate didn't seem to go together, in my opinion. I took a few bites and left the rest. Essentially, it was a soft boiled egg coated in some sort of crust, maybe a breadcrumb. That's all...maybe I'm missing the mark? It was paired with a cured salmon which was somewhat flaky but pretty underwhelming. It had quinoa on top too and some herbs. All with a swipe of cumin yogurt on the plate and on a bed of braised cabbage which was wet and soggy. Seemed unusual to me overall.Entrees: I got the carbonara and my husband got the halibut. Both were pretty one note throughout and very salty. The carbonara had a house made bacon which was fun. I asked if a protein such as grilled chicken could be added, the server stated they did not have any chicken available or other proteins outside of what was allotted for the menu - I.e. salmon, beef, etc. No problem, I ordered as is. It didn't have that creamy yumminess you'd expect from a carbonara. Just fell flat unfortunately, I barely ate half. My husband's fish was good but nothing stellar. Cooked well and had what seemed to be fresh gnocchi with some crispy kale pieces. We opted out of dessert here since we weren't feeling the small selection (I think there were 2 or maybe 3). The kicker (and partially what contributed to our no dessert decision) was that there was not (or barely) any AC. And on a hot and humid August night, the air was very still inside to the point where having an appetite was hard. I just wanted to get some fresh air by the end of the meal.Again, Id be willing to try again given that it's in a sweet little block of a Church Hill and they state they use local and seasonal items. But this was a miss for me.

Fantastic service, food and cocktails. Awesome seasonal menu. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the RVA hotdog with crab cake and pimento cheese is out of this world and worth a try. Never disappoints.

Adorable place in a nice neighborhood in Richmond. Waitresses were very attentive and careful in terms of covid. Food was incredibly made and delicious. Would love to come back again

Ordered takeout for tonight. Since I am the main cook, I really needed a break from planning, buying and cooking. We ordered the pierogies and the shrimp with cheddar polenta. Great meals. The food was rockin’. Delectable. Delicious. We’re happy. Thank you for making your wonderful food available during this challenging time. We will return.

This place is fantastic. You can always count on the Perfect Egg. The drinks are fantastic and there's always something good to eat.

Nice informal restaurant. Friendly staff. Though limited choice on the menu, most people should be able to find something to their liking. Enjoyed the food and they had great amuses. The only Dutch food on the menu was the stroopwafel in the dessert.

The only, and i mean ONLY reason i can't give a 5th star is because of crowded seating and loudness. That's not really fair, because it's crowded and noisy because it's no amazing! Everything I ate was delicious! All 4 of us had the prix fixe (and why wouldn't you? Any app and entree would exceed the prix fixe price). I've only had steak (here, beef) tartare 3 times - D and Co raised it to a new level. They offer delightful and inspired signature beverages. Our server was exceptionally kind, patient and accommodating. You know what? They get all the stars. Do not miss this place!
