After living in RVA for a long time and having never been to Helen's before and hearing good things, we finally made reservations! Let me start with the good points of our visit, our server was fantastic and the atmosphere was awesome (great playlist!). However, I have to say the food was below our expectations. I kept it simple and ordered a burger, man that thing came out like a hockey puck. My wife's fish was ok, but a bit dry as well.At the end of the day that was an expensive bill for the food we got. Maybe the other items on the menu are awesome, unfortunately, we won't be heading back to find out.

Great options on food. I had the eggs Benedict and it was okay. Sauce was lacking a little flavor but still good. Atmosphere is great and the service is awesome. Would definitely suggest getting there early as the place fills up fast for brunch.

The food was perfection. The cocktails delicious and the atmosphere is vibey and cozy. Get the chocolate mousse. They were very busy and hustling hard. We were a 4 top and told our table was reserved for two hours which was a good heads up since we were meeting up with old friends and didn’t want to feel rushed.Wheelchair accessibility: It is not wheelchair accessible

The place was empty except for a few customers at the bar. No one else dining, but we were still asked if we had a reservation. Odd, but not crazy. We got seated, heard about the special soup of the day, and didn't see the waitress since then. As my wife and I patiently waited and looked over a very limited menu, we saw one of the cooks going to town on his beard in the kitchen. Didn't want to risk getting any Braised “Beard” Short Ribs. So we left.

I had the beef tenderloin coated in a horseradish mustard on mashed potatoes with Brussel sprouts . It was amazing. Loved every bite. Roasted beets and also deviled eggs as an appetizer. Both were delicious
The atmosphere has a charming, cozy, local feel. Started with a vibey, smokey mezcal cocktail. The food was impeccable. I left wishing I could have watched the chef prepare my halibut. It was the best I've ever had. Chicken penne and shrimp with grits were great selections too. Chocolate mouse shared was a perfect ending.

Second visit and it was just as good as before. I LOVE their burgers and the appetizers are awesome. My only issue was it was really loud at peak times. Hard to talk. I prefer to sit in a booth rather than a table due to this issue
Its quaint and cozy with this rustic smell to the place I enjoy. I'm not sure if this especially geared towards the East Coast, but I love when breakfast places gives you a sausage patty and not sausage links for the price your paying. It is a little on the pricey end, but it was worth it! I especially enjoyed the pancakes and potatoes! The waitress was also really sweet!

We recently moved back to Richmond and hadn't been to Helen's in 40 years! It has always been a Richmond institution, but we were delighted to see the updated menu while maintaining the original charm of the restaurant. There is a good selection on the menu and each of the 4 items we ordered was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. More wines by the glass would be nice but not a deal breaker. We will be back!
