I have come to eat at Vietnam 1 since 2003 and have always been happy with the food quality and the quick service. The reason for my 1 star review is that they have in the past couple of years switched to an electronic POS system. You know how here in the US a lot of electronic POS systems will have the suggested tips in ascending order, lowest on the left and highest on the right? What they've done is change it so that they have the highest percentages on the left (22%) and lowest on the right (15%) (in descending order), going against a trend from many other restaurants. It feels like they're trying to unethically get people to tip more than they normally would, because they know that habitually many people (research data shows that most diners are tipping 15% or less) are hitting the buttons on the left (15%-18%).

I had recently been to this restaurant after many years. The food was good. I had my typical asian vegetarian dishes, the service was pretty good. They did have a lot of customers. However, i felt that items were on the pricier side - close to the $15 to $20 per dish, and the kick in the stomach was that the portions were on the smaller side, leaving you still hungry as you left the restaurant. I wish they were a little bit more generous with the portions, given the cost of each dish. If you are not one of those fancy overpriced michelin star restaurants, if you are a regular mom and pop restaurant, i expect the prices to be reasonable, and the portions to be more than adequate. This, thankfully, is an easy fix and I hope they do it.

I’ve eaten here on and off over the past decade. Now that I moved to RVA permanently, it’s typically my go-to since I like to shop at Tan A for convenience. I feel like the food has declined some over the years and has less punch to the spices and sauces. The portions have gotten smaller but that’s pretty expected nowadays. I do see that there are less Asian people eating there so maybe that’s why the taste has changed… lol. Not a lot of other decent competition though, so I can’t complain too much since there’s no Eden center here.

My favorite pho in RVA! By far the most flavorful. The vermicelli dishes are awesome too. Highly recommend.

My nearly good as usual. We typically get take out but this last time gives us pause about continuing to eat there. The grill platter which has always been a favorite was lacking a few items: they left out the beef and onion rolls, there was no basil, carrot or lettuce and only two small slices of cucumber. This dish comes with rice paper for rolling but was missing too many ingredients so we didn't bother making rolls. The curry noodles with chicken was pretty bland and had mostly vegetables and very little chicken. The pork spring rolls were void as usual.
Great pho and fast, friendly service. Highly recommend.
