I ordered through that stupid "BringMeThat" service and ordered a certain amount of rolls, but when I went to pickup, one was missing. The lady (Im assuming is the manager) was very rude, saying that the order was correct, period, when I clearly had the actual receipt on hand with my full order shown. She insisted, again in a very rude tone, that I was incorrect, saying something about a lady from "BringMeThat" called them and ordered one roll less... I was shocked on how bad can you treat a customer, I really DONT CARE who called who, I want my full order. Turned out to be a confusion between that stupid web service and the restaurant. I can understand, but thats not an excuse to treat bad your customers. I paid another roll to complete the order, and to get that lady out of my sight.... btw: The food wasnt good either way. Not returning ever again.

First time trying this restaurant, and we were more than disappointed. My first impression walking in was how quiet it was. There was no music playing and 2 tables seated. We got to our table and the waitress seemed friendly enough. My partner and I asked for a water and an unsweet tea, and we were surprised when we received a bottle of water and a bottle of gold peak. No refills. No disclaimer about how all they provide are bottled drinks. I was thinking at that point that maybe we should go somewhere else, but decided to stay because it was the day before Valentine’s Day and already 7pm, plus we hadn’t been here before and we were hungry… so we committed to seeing it through. We ordered the house pork dumpling soup, a special sushi roll, a shrimp tempura roll, and yaki soba with a small salad. I received the salad first, which was basically your standard, run-of-the-mill pre-packaged, pre-cut iceberg lettuce and carrot mix with a brownish colored carrot-ginger dressing. Then we got the soup. It appeared big enough for 2, the broth was decent, but you had to work your spoon around an excessive amount of sliced white onions to get to any broth. And the dumplings were basically pre packaged frozen gyoza thawed and thrown in the bowl. It was the worst soup I’ve had in a long time. The sushi rolls were just OK, plain rice and shrimp tempura, and my partners roll was soft shell crab with a spicy tuna topping. Underwhelming, but ok. The yakisoba was probably the most disappointing…. It was probably a 50/50 ratio of thin noodles to what seemed like the exact same lettuce mix that my salad was made of, stir fried into the noodles, barely any chicken. It was awful as it sounds. When we got the bill, every food item was about $3 more than what was listed in the menu… plus the cost of the bottled drinks. My partner asked about the prices and complained. They acted like there was a sign on the front door about price increases… but it was all very inconspicuous and the fact they gave us a menu with lower prices listed was very misleading. The food wasn’t really worth the listed prices, let alone the increase prices. There was no honor given to the menu we received, so we paid what they had us pay. At the same time, another customer came up with their bill and complained about the same thing!! We likely won’t be coming back to this place.I do hope for them that they work out the kinks and revamp their menu and communication tactics. Owning a business is hard and I feel for them, but they need the feedback to try to improve. And customers need to be made aware.

This is the only excellent place in Roanoke for sushi. Not only is it fresh, but Ben also knows how to cut the sushi for its best flavor. It's a family business and they are a Great family

My fiancé and I just ate dinner at this establishment and strongly recommend to you dear reader to not follow in our mistake. The ambiance is very nice to begin with, but upon being seated that changes. We ordered water and Ben Gui did something very interesting then--they brought us bottled water. They charged us $3 for that, of course, but we will get back to them overcharging us. Just to make it clear, we expected water in a glass for free as you would get at literally any other restaurant. That takes us to issue number 2: the food just was not good. We both got sushi, and the roll sizes were tiny and improperly cut. Moreover, I ordered a special "Roanoke Roll" which is twice the price of a normal California roll. The menu notes that these special house rolls are larger than normal rolls, they are not. Finally, and by far most importantly, when we went to pay for our mediocre sushi, we noticed our bill was over $50. We had counted up the prices of the sushi we were ordering before placing our order, and $50 was incongruent with what we were expecting. So why was our food so much? Well they charged us for water to start. Worse still, they charged us off of prices in the back of the menu! Evidently, they have raised prices, but instead of ever telling us that, they gave us normal menus with the old prices. We never even saw the increased prices. My quote unquote large Roanoke Roll, was, for instance, raised from $11 to $14.50. Everything was similarly raised. So we were charged extra for our food vs. what the menu stated, we were charged for water, the food was less than stellar, and when we mentioned the menu prices to the waitress, she became accusatory towards us. PS: My fiancé's stomach is now bothering him. He doesn't have this problem from literally any other sushi place in Roanoke. TLDR: Eat here if you want to be charged more than the menu says your food costs and look forward to enjoying bad food.

The food was amazing with great service and ambiance!! A bit pricey but that is to be expected these days-especially for specialty menu foods. The ambiance makes up for it and great place for a date night or special occasion!!

Disappointing! Ordered water. My dinner companion and I were brought bottled water that we were each charged $1.50 for. My dinner companion ordered the shrimp tempura dinner. The menu stated that the dinner came with soup or salad. My dinner companion was charged for the salad. When we questioned the server he said there was a disclaimer on the menu that said there was now a charge for the soup and salad. Also, the dinner does not come with rice. Rice comes with a dinner in any other Japanese restaurant. Don't call a meal a dinner if it's just a large appetizer. Also, the prices on the menu are not current. Clearly, the restaurant needs to reprint their menus. I had the shrimp tempura appetizer. The coating on the shrimp and vegetable was very heavy.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants for sushi in Roanoke but the last time that I went, the quality seemed so different. The fish didn't taste as fresh and the presentation was substandard. What really made me mad is that they hand out bottled waters in place of tapwater and when I asked the server why that was, they said because their ice maker broke two years ago. Not only did they charge us for the bottled water, I can only imagine how many plastic water bottles get tossed out at the restaurant adding to our environmental impact.
