My wife and I had quite a bit of goods to donate. Preferring to help veterans, we went to the DAV Store in Salem, VA, as we dislike Goodwill for a variety of reasons. We went to the donation area, and a young woman indicated she'd help us. She went inside as I waited. Several minutes later I stepped inside. She was on the phone, so I continued to wait. As we had other errands to run, after several minutes longer, I gave up. Instead, we went to Goodwill, where a gentleman accepted our donations promptly.A simple acknowledgement and a "be right with you" would've sufficed at the DAV Store. But the feeling of being ignored caused me to give up and go elsewhere (and contribute to the Goodwill CEO's bank account).

Yum! And plentiful! Fish and chips coleslaw was good. A friend had the cheese burger. Prices reasonable and relaxing spot. Pool table and social hall to rent for a small gathering.

To my veteran friends, we could use more volunteers to join our ranks. If you are a true patriot, willing to volunteer your time for honoring fallen veterans, please let me know. Membership of the DAV chapter 3 is required or membership of the auxiliary is ok also. We’re getting so many funerals for veterans that passed away during Covid that we can’t do them all. Feel free to stop by the DAV lounge and enjoy good food , cold beverages, and ask for a membership application. Thanks

The store is somewhat small but there's a lot of good merchandise inside. The employees are friendly. The prices are good- true thrift store pricing. The cause is worthy. As you enter the store there's an electronic section that sells color televisions. Next to the TVs is a display case where they sell nicer items and smaller things. The rest of the store is divided by category. The center is occupied by clothing items. The side of the store has shelves full of dishes and glassware. The back has other household items including small appliance and decor. They had a lot of games and puzzles for sale. They had household furniture. They also had items to assist people with handicapped needs. This place provides assistance for needy veterans being released from the near-by hospital. They provide a very honorable service. I also placed a donation in the donation box to aid with their mission.

Being a US Navy Veteran, I have to support my fellow servicemembers. I always donate to them as they seem to get overshadowed by the Goodwill stores. Our veterans get very little support at times, and they could use all the help we can spare. They do pick ups for large items, also. There is a drop off at the back and a drop off for smaller items in the front of the store. Please give them a call or consideration on your next donation run. I know they appreciate it. The store has a wide array of furniture, clothes, household goods, books, toys and miscellaneous items. Please consider donating to them. Thank you, A USN Veteran CDR, Medical Corps, USN
