We have tried a bunch of different Chinese food places in the area trying to find one we liked and wow we were impressed with Dragon Express! We ordered sesame chicken, beef and shrimp, and cashew chicken. We also ordered several appetizers. Everything taste fresh and delicious. We will definitely be going back!

Sometimes, just from a couple of three dishes, you can get an excellent idea of the restaurant, because if they can't make some simple things well, they certainly won't be able to make the more complicated ones well.It started with two egg rolls. Pretty easy, huh? I've made great ones at home. THESE two were over fried, so the skins were dark and either the oil wasn't hot enough or it was old because grease glistened from the skin and then just oozed out of the skin when I picked one up to take a bite. There's no excuse for that at all. I needed napkins to capture the grease.Next was the pork fried rice. Full of chopped roasted pork, peas, a bit of egg, a bit of cabbage. I don't think I've ever had fried rice this dry and lacking flavor. Again, it's not difficult to make fried rice. Then came the roast pork lo mein. A giant container of it, packed to the rim. I could tell by looking that it also wouldn't be good. It was the lightest colored lo mein I've ever seen and for good reason. It was flavorless. To make matters worse, the noodles were over cooked and mushy. Maybe it will taste better cold with some additional soy sauce and garlic.Finally, was the dish that brought me there to begin with! Crispy Beef with celery and carrots. Let me explain. Another name for this dish is called Dry Fried Beef. I've had it in Chinatown in Washington DC and in New York. It's made with thin slices of beef. Typically, if it's made correctly, beef is stir fried until it's dry, and chewy with a very spicy Szechuan GLAZE (NOT a sauce). Most restaurants, if you can ever actually find this dish, deep fry the beef which is what Dragon Express did. The problem with THIS dish is that while it looked very close to what I've had at numerous Chinatown restaurants, THIS dish was swimming in sauce, not spicy at all, and was way too sweet. Such a disappointment bc this is a dish that's difficult to find, and when you find it and it's made well, it's delicious and memorable.I can't rate this restaurant over two stars and I won't be back. They were also a bit chinsy in giving only one fortune cookie and that one was broken on receipt, but then should have I expected better?
