We decided to stay here recently for a quick getaway, our first time in Washington, VA. From the time we arrived until we departed - following a delicious and aesthetically-pleasing 4-course breakfast - we enjoyed our time. The welcoming staff, great service, beautiful location, and rooms complete with historic touches all made Foster Harris a perfect choice for a relaxing weekend.

Klaus was a fantastic host. He's a great conversationalist who's led an interesting life, and the breakfast lived up to the hype!

We had a wonderful stay. Klaus provided good, detailed instructions from how to enter as well as the WiFi code. The breakfast was spectacular with excellent coffee, ginger scones, the ginger fruit salad, homemade sausage and quiche finished with a mini-cheesecake. Klaus made us feel right at home. It’s also walking distance from the Inn at Little Washington.

Klaus and his wife (owners) go above and beyond to make your stay special. We had personalized welcome notes and I was celebrating a birthday and had a special birthday song and treat at breakfast. The property is beautiful and it is within walking distance of the Inn at Little Washington. I would absolutely recommend staying here and will go back.

The rooms and grounds are very nice, and Klaus was a welcoming and accommodating host. If you're coming to town for a dinner at the Inn at Little Washington, this makes a good landing spot (an easy walk away); if proximity to the Inn doesn't matter, then you can probably find an equally nice BnB for less. My one complaint is that eating the very large course breakfast the morning after our dinner at the Inn was a struggle; I wish breakfast could be a simpler serve-yourself spread with lighter options, for those who are still full or want to save room.Rooms: small but very nicely decorated

We stayed at the Foster Harris House for our 50th Anniversary. It was the best B&B we’ve ever stayed at - bar none! Why? Well - the accommodations were superior, but it was the “little things” that hooked us on this B& B forever. Let me explain. Klaus is a “guy’s guy! That is, he is the type of guy you immediately like. OK - I’m a guy who doesn’t normally “gush” over other guys - but Klaus is just so damned friendly that you have to like him within 5 minutes of meeting him. He “connects” with people. Initially, I thought that going to “The Inn at Little Washington” would be the highlight of this weekend experience… and do t get me wrong - “The Inn” was awesome - BUT - Klaus & Gisele and the Foster Harris House are just so likable that it will be nearly impossible to top - F O R E V E R ! It’s hard to put in words, but they draw you in to the point where we felt like family within minutes of being there. We had the Mountain View suite and I had asked Klaus ahead of time to have some flowers in our room when we arrived. (Diane loves Roses). Klaus did not disappoint - there was a gorgeous spray of Roses in a small sitting room off the Master Bedroom along with some scrumptious chocolate chip cookies. (See pics ). Had time permitted- we would have loved to sit and chat with Klaus and Gisele for hours before our dinner at “The Inn”… but alas - there was not enough time. The following morning, we woke up and Klaus had delicious pressed coffee waiting outside our suite so we could partake and go sit on the front porch until he came (with a little “dinner” bell) for our home-prepared multi-course breakfast. The breakfast was AMAZINGLY delicious! BUT - More than that - we met and got to know Klaus’ lovely wife, Gisele. I have to tell you - her smile and laugh is infectious. At the risk of inappropriateness, I wanted to hug her immediately- but I didn’t. (Missed opportunity). She & Klaus appeared to be having breakfast with with close friends at the only other occupied table and it was SO immediately obvious that this cute couple are so in love with each other and what they are doing for a living. I have always felt that you can’t put a price on cherished memories- and these, my friends, will rank up there with the most cherished! Klaus & Gisele - thank you and we love you ♥️ for maki g our special occasion unique.

The whole experience was amazing!!! My travel partner has a gluten allergy and they accommodated this with our breakfasts. The cellular service in the area did not support our phones and they gave us a phone to use during our stay. The house is very warm and cozy. A treat was the coffee/tea bar outside of our room with fresh coffee each morning before breakfast. This B&B was the only one that could accommodate 2 unmarried persons. Everything was just amazing...accommodations, food and the owners. We will definitely stay there again!!!!

Gracious hosts, warm and welcoming, well-appointed rooms, nice inn atmosphere, in close proximity to the town's shops and restaurants, in short all the hallmarks for a pleasant stay -- oh, and the scrumptious breakfast.

Fantastic breakfast, homemade scones, eggs, best coffee. Two beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, updated bathrooms. Spent the day hiking and enjoyed the evening relaxing in the small town. Can't wait to come back.

My husband and I enjoyed the most delicious B&B birthday breakfast ever, served with German charm by the owner himself. The historic house, on the quiet main street of this rural tourist destination town, is spacious, decorated appropriately with exquisite taste, with soothing pastural views from the rooms. This is a wonderful place for a romantic getaway!Nearby activities: Walking, hiking, event theatre, historic houses, The Inn at Little Washington (for lunch or dinner)Walkability: quiet rural town main street with sidewalksFood & drinks: Chef cuisine quality, good quantity and variety, and delicious!

As you turn into the Foster Harris House parking lot, before you is large white fencing overlooking an idyllic landscape. The parking lot offers a charging station for electric cars.We are greeted by Gisele who was picking vegetables and herbs from their lush garden. There is a small walking path around the garden. As we entered the house we were greeted by jovial Klaus. An immediate warm welcome. They have such pride in what they have to offer. Klaus shows us the living room where there is refrigerated refreshments. Then the dining area. Sad to say they had to close the restaurant due to COVID-19. But they do prepare a breakfast the following morning. If you get a chance to peek the kitchen is so inviting. A set up I would love to have. Prior to entering the cone of silence (lol where there is no cell service) we found out that we unexpectedly had to get home. But we had dinner reservations at the famous Inn at Little Washington which you should never miss out. I digress...Special note. Make sure you know the directions on how to get to Foster Harris House. GPS is also spotty.Giselle shows us the Mountain View room - it is so inviting. A beautiful queen size bed on one side of the room, a little fire stove and a love seat. Then you step down into a small solarium that has chairs to sit and admire the expansive view. Sitting on the table is a small cake stand filled with cookies along with plates and napkins. Off to to the side of the solarium is the bathroom. Beautiful with a spa like shower. We made it a point that we would take another shower before we left. It was wonderful. Because there only a few carriers, FH offers guests a cellphone so if they need to get in touch. Nice amenity. It also provided GPS so we could figure how to head home. After we settled in we took a walk through the little town. Once you pass most the businesses there is a public walking path. If you have a chance it is gives an opportunity for a relaxing meditative walk. When we got back to FH we sat on the chairs in the back yard. Stress fads as you watch the sun slowly go down and cools the night air. We informed Gisele and Klaus that we would be leaving really early in the morning so no need for breakfast. Gisele was sweet and offered if we texted them what time planned to leave that would have coffee service ready and scones that were the best around. Sadly we weren't sure when we were going to leave until we were heading out the door. The only regret is that we didn't have the opportunity to really appreciate all the amenities or the time for Gisele and Klaus' hospitality.Highly recommend Foster Harris House- it is a true gem!

Charming bed and breakfast with great service and a location that is close, but not too close, in a quiet countryside setting. Easy drive into Shenandoah for an evening hike and dinner and back. Great place for a couple's getaway and great scones with breakfast!

Klaus and Gilsele run a fantastic B&B at the Foster Harris House. It is located within walking distance to the Inn at Little Washington. The beds are super comfortable and ensuite bathrooms are clean and big for a B&B. The views are beautiful and it was quiet for great sleeping. If you make time to sit and talk with Klaus and Gilsele you will be happy you did. Great people with great life stories. I recommend staying here for sure.
