Had high expectations of this place based on reviews, a bus and two ferries later ventured out to be disappointed. Don’t order the minestrone if expecting minestrone. This bakery has other ideas. After taking my to go order back on the ferry, discovered I got a $7 veggie w/ beans soup. Called the place to inform only to be told that’s the way they make it and it needs to be gluten free. Pasta and rice is available GF. Suggested they should consider remaining their soup to Vegetable Soup or better inform their customers of their version of “minestrone.”In case you are not familiar with What's the difference between minestrone and vegetable soup?Minestrone soup is unique because it typically includes beans, pasta, or rice, as well as vegetables, and the ingredients are always left chunky (it's never blended), making it a heartier option. Vegetable soups are usually simpler and don't typically include beans or pasta, and you could have a blended vegetable soup.

Located in a cozy street full of souvenir shops, wine tasting bars, local art, and museums, this bakery is a brisk 10min walk from the ferry port and a lovely spot to have a quick bite and a coffee. While there was a line, there was still lots of seating when I went around 8:30am on a Monday. Everything came out quickly and I enjoyed one of the best croissants I've had in a long time. The potato quiche was fluffy and hit the spot! I hope to be back again someday soon.

TLDR; super long and slow lines, really nice pastries. When we got here (9.30am), the line probably had 7-8 groups ahead of us, and it took us about 20 minutes to get to the front. I got the savory croissant which was overall pretty quite nice. Unfortunately it felt a bit oily (not buttery) to me - I let it sit in the paper bag for a couple hours, after which it was perfect since the bag soaked up all the extra oil/butter.

Really beautiful pastries that look as good as they taste. Small little place without a lot of seating, and rather noisy. Pretty good coffees as well. Great stop for a Sunday morning pick me up!Kid-friendliness: Brought our children and it was fine. Booths are available.

Returning back to the peninsula on the heels of a major surgery, we decided to have coffee and a bake good to celebrate the moment. We had been told that the Blackbird Bakery was the place to go to get top notch coffee and bake goods. Added to this it is close by to the ferry which met our time travel (hospital to home) restrictions. While the service was quick what we ended up with was abysmal; tepid coffee and horrible bake goods . We only discovered this once back in the car and we had to go. I cannot begin to emphasize our disappointment.

Blackbird bakery has great reviews and we were looking forward to going here. When we got here, they didn’t have the pastries we wanted as we probably arrived too late. Unfortunately, the coffee was just OK. The shop itself is really cool and the staff was nice, but not over the top friendly. This bakery is on a main strip so there’s steady foot traffic. We like this place, but the our expectations may have been too high.

Came here last fall on a day trip from Seattle. Enjoyed a great oatmeal latte and scones. Adorable atmosphere. Love this look café.

Food: - Poppy seed citrus loaf slice. The first bite was great, sweet and citrusy. After that though, it just got very very sweet from the icing on top, and dense enough it was hard to swallow. 2/5 - Apricot scone. Liked the crispy outsides of the scone, and the nice light sweetness of the apricot. It tasted very very granola, with not quite enough spice to make it more tasty. 3/5 I thought this was the place we liked the first time we swung around here, but this time didn't quite live up to the memory. Still a cute cafe, warm bustling atmosphere. Honestly, both items would've tasted much better toasted, but they were too busy to heat up. Understandable, but given that we were on the road (and hungry!) we had to eat it cold. They do sell full sized cakes, like tiramisu, which is good to note as celebrations come up. Will have to stop by again and hope the next selection is better!

This is the coziest spot and an island staple. The toast is worth the hype!

I got a hot cafe latte from Blackbird Bakery on my way to Bainbridge Island. The quality of their coffee is great. The customer service was fast and the ambience was amazing as well. I wish they were open later, as I went there around 3.55 pm and was afraid I wouldn’t be able to place my order. Fortunately, I saw quite a few people entering the cafe after I did. Overall, a nice choice for good coffee.

I got here at 7:55a on a Sunday and was 8th in line. My favorite was the downtowner and the cinnamon roll. I didn't take any photos because I ate them too fast. Service was very fast and I was out by 8:10a.

We have loved Blackbird Bakery since our first visit in 2005. It is always crowded and loud, and the customer service tends to suffer because of that. But, I learned I could place an order online and was able to pick up a full two potato quiche, four loaves of honey oat bread, and an extra large bag of their amazing granola for our guests enjoyment at our home. It worked out perfectly! Now that I know I can place orders, I will probably never suffer the toddler crowd again (no offense toddlers, you're adorable). My family devoured the quiche and toast and granola. Now I'm debating if I mail some to them when I make jam in the summer, but am afraid it will be one more reason for them to skip visiting me. Decisions, decisions. Thank you Blackbird for making your delicious food easy to access. :)
