i ordered chips and queso and got like neon orange ballpark-quality nacho cheese with 3 sad jalapeños, kinda disappointing considering the fun atmosphere and history of the place.

Beer is good, they have pool and AC so can't really ask for more. Also food is bomb.

Contrary to the previous reviewers we weren't charmed by the Horseshoe. My wife wanted to visit for breakfast because she'd read it was WAs oldest bar in continuous operation. The third member of our party, a WWU student, had avoided it for its scuzzy aspect. No discernible historical remnants. Just a weary old eatery of no distinction. our window table had a panorama of the unhoused residents emerging from the littered alley opposite, not conducive to a breakfast appetite. My two companions shared a thick waffle topped with fried chicken which they thought tasty and a lot for the price. . From the limited menu I selected one scrambled egg andnied by hash browns as least likely to disturb. My egg arrived a few minutes after their order. The waiter, who seemed to be responsible for everything save the cooking, paused in stupefaction, asked if he’d forgotten something. "The hash browns!". Apologized, took the eggs back to keep warm, promised to return in three minutes. Ten later he reappeared with a slab of previously frozen potato shreds. I report no indigestion.

We visited during Western’s Family Weekend and we thought we’d be waiting for a while but they are so efficient that there was barely any wait when we arrived. I had the black bean hash and it was delicious! My husband had the chicken and biscuits and he loved it too. The service was great too.

A typical diner with sub-par food.Ordered the eggs benedict or their version it was ok>but would have preferred the classic version...good service...

After a long day of skiing Mr. Baker, we were hungry. We decided to visit another restaurant in nearby, but it was closed (as were several other restaurants in the area (probably due to the fact school was closed and Coronavirus). We wanted to have a sit down dinner and saw that the HC was open so went there. Weren't really sure what to expect (normally we try to Yelp first and see what shows up but their were so many closures that it was somewhat of a worthless exercise). So we ended up at the Horseshoe without knowing what to expect. The decor is old time diner, with counter space and booths (as well as a 21+ bar attached). Looks dated, but our stomach doesn't have eyes so it didn't matter. We both ordered breakfast for dinner. I ordered the chicken and waffles, my son ordered a carnivore omelet. Staff was friendly, food came out quickly and food was at the right temperature when it arrived. My son felt his portion was huge (and he likes to eat a lot so that says something) and I felt that mine was a good size portion (a big breaded chicken breast and a large belgium waffle). Hard to mess up breakfast food really, but fried chicken on the other hand is not breakfast food. It was perfectly cooked, juicy and well seasoned. I would likely come back to the Horseshoe next time in town, probably try something else on the menu.

A friend recommended this restaurant. At first glance outside I was leary, but inside its clean and well maintained. Staff were very friendly. Food was so good. My husband is vegetarian and had some amazing options. It's a greasy spoon type place, but nothing is greasy. Memorabilia is clean and orderly. We will be back. Gave 4 put of 5 because no one is perfect. We will be back!

We stopped for breakfast and this was just what we were looking for - good food, reasonable prices, and great location. And it is the oldest cafe in Washington State.

A Bellingham staple, still fun even though they got rid of the dank

We went in and found a menu full of classic diner options including burgers, sandwiches and breakfast all day. They also have a full bar and a handful of beers on draft. The food was good and had generous portions. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were par for the diner market prices.
