This is my favorite Japanese restaurant and all of the Seattle metro area. The food is outstanding. The service is everything that you would expect from a good Japanese restaurant which is just excellent. And the staff are all just the coolest Japanese people! The sushi is super fresh and delicious. Forget going to the chain sushi places, cuz of this place is the best! I've had the bento boxes, and it's more food than you can stand and just extremely tasty. My father-in-law loves the shrimp tempura dish. He gets it every time we go there. Both my wife and son love this place... Anytime I ask if they want to go someplace for lunch Koharu is always the top choice lol!Vegetarian options: One of my favorite things on the sushi menu here is the cucumber roll, and the tamago is unbelievably sweet and tasty. Great veggie optionsParking: The lot is kind of small and not the easiest to get into, but there's plenty of parking every time I go there for lunch.Kid-friendliness: This is a super kid friendly place, my son is 11 and he just adores the food there and and the staff is always super respectful to him. I wish our cultural learned more from Japanese culture regarding kids.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheelchair ramp at the south end of the sidewalk in front of the building.

Tired of left overs from the holidays so fiancé and I decided it was a sushi kind of night. Lots of options in the Federal Way area but fiancé had been to Kaharu in the past and said it was really good. She wasn't lying as I thought it was good too. Service was quick and very friendly. I'm still not used to using chopsticks but I'll get it one day.

Koharu offers up some healthy competition to the other sushi restaurants out in Federal Way. On a Friday evening at 5:00 PM, the restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. They have dimmer lighting inside giving the restaurant a more cozy feel. The restaurant feels very clean inside as well. We were asked if we would like some tea ($1 per person) and it came in a tea leaves infusion pot. The tea tasted fresh and lightly fragrant. Our meal came with a small side salad and miso soup. If you don't like a heavy amount of dressing, you may want to ask them to go light on the dressing. The 20 piece sashimi was presented beautifully. Thick cuts of fish and very fatty and oily pieces. Definitely fresh and good quality fish is used, but the hamachi did seem a little frozen when bitten into - so I can't attest to the freshness of that fish in particular. The Koharu roll comes with 9 hefty pieces and was the our favorite roll. It had deep fried soft shell crab on top and it was still hot when it was served. The caterpillar roll was hefty in portion as well but I noticed that the inside was mostly imitation crab and less eel and cucumber inside. There's a good amount of avocado on top and then didn't skimp on that. The tempura was fried to perfection and was not oily or greasy. It isn't served with typical tempura sauce and is served with a soy sauce based sauce. Service was exceptional and we were well taken care of!

I called in an order for salmon nigiri, scallop nigiri and a Negi Hama (yellowtail) roll. I found bones in the salon nigiri and they had left skin on the flesh which had an off taste, just more fishy - but not clean like you would expect. The roll was just ok, too much rice and the fish was not flavorful at all. Service was ok, nothing to shout about. Won’t be back, there are plenty of other options nearby and a couple excellent locations in Auburn.

The chefs have changed, I have been going to this restaurant so many years. But now it's not the same. And the hostess says they haven't changed. But it is clear that they have changed. It was the best restaurant before .

Great gem in a small plaza next to Batteries Plus. Appetizers of takoyaki and tempura were perfect. I got the udon and spicy tuna roll lunch set, and it was delicious.

Terrific little find, tucked away from the bigger shopping plazas in the area. Mellow ambience, tastefully muted decor and lighting. EXCELLENT food and service! We were so glad to have found this little gem! We will be repeat customers.Ordered: Gyoza (Perfectly crisp and balanced flavors.)Nabeyaki Udon (The broth is perfection!Tofu done just right.)Flying Dragon Roll (Perfectly cooked and just the right amount of eel.)Crazy Spicy Tempura Roll (Perfect! Lightly fried, fresh salmon, tuna and crunchy jalapeño. Easily, a new favorite.)Dietary restrictions: Requested to remove onions due to sensitivities, received a “No problem!” AND our items arrived free of onions. Happy bellies all around.

This is me and my family's favorite to go sushi spot. We have sat down in the restaurant one time but the vibe wasn't as casual as we predicted. Regardless we love the menu and all the staff is extremely kind and helpful.
