They are only open on Saturdays, but knowing the background of these bakers makes this totally worthwhile to pay these folks a visit. They are in the parking lot by Math N Stuff and it's just a tent to shield them from the conditions so they are not hard to miss! i got there shortly before 11 and was thankful not everything was sold out! I got a lemon bar, a raspberry coffee cake (I think?) and their quiche. I got my items individually packaged in paper bags that were a perfect size for the sweet goods and was on my way pretty quickly. The raspberry coffee cake was delightful, it wasn't too sweet and it was a wonderful balance between the flavors. I am probably going to be consistently coming back for the lemon bar. I liked the crust on my quiche but the ingredients left me wanting. If you like it warm, you will need to heat it up yourself and that could definitely change how it was meant to be eaten. I forgot to ask how I should have heated it up again so that's on me

I literally did a Uturn when I saw Backyard Bakery across the street from the Maple Leaf Ace Hardware. I remembered awhile back fellow Yelp Elite, Tracy A posted a review about this business and thus became a bookmark. It was fortuitous to be driving southbound on Roosevelt on Saturday morning after 11am (8/5/23), plus snagged a nearby parking spot to check this out. It is always a good sign when there were literally folks walking from all points in the neighborhood and converging at this corner. Loved seeing how the baked goods were all arranged, definitely enticing. I ended up purchasing two lemon bars ($3.50 each), two large chocolate chip cookies ($3 each), and one Key Lime tart ($7.50). I appreciated the care taken to place the items into bags. By the way, the chocolate chip cookies were great with a schmear of Nutella or warmed up and eaten with a scoop of ice cream, respectively. Turns out I have been under a rock as this neighborhood pop up has been in business on Saturday mornings for three years! Later, I enjoyed reading about the business owners and their respective culinary/pastry professional backgrounds via their website (seattlebackyardbakery.com). I love supporting local, indie pop ups and brick and mortars. Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood is definitely lucky to have local cafes and bakeshops such as Cafe Javasti, Blue Saucer, Cloud City, Macrina, and Backyard Bakery all within close proximity to each other. I look forward to returning on future Saturdays to try additional sweet and savory items from their product line.

Bonnie and Dan make delicious and fresh pastries every Saturday. I love the staples like the quiche, galettes, the biscuits and the scones. Other notable treats are the lemon bars and the strawberry/rhubarb tarts that they recently started making. It's a pop up bakery so you only get to enjoy their goods once a week - but that makes it all the more special. Light years better than the new popular bakery that opened up down the street.

The best baked good. Open only on Saturday Cinnamon rolls are amazing, lemon bar are lemony. Scones are amazing. Tomato bacon pastry is to die for.

This little gem is still going strong. Because it's a pop up, if you have not already, sign up for their email. They are great communicators of what's going on with them. They have some favorite standards like the cinnamon roll with it without cream cheese icing, but they throw in a lot of other items. I was able to get the bourbon pecan tart, and this time of year they do a lovely little holiday box full of goodies.

I love this little pop up bakery. It is only open Saturdays but is clearly very popular. I like to stop by and get snacks on our way to Maple Leaf Park. The bacon cheddar chive biscuits are divine, and my toddler is obsessed with the vegan coconut pineapple bread. Highly recommend making a point to stop here on your Saturday adventures.
