I loved coming here to eat. The Camarones apertillados is my favorite dish to eat. I went in for appetizers.

El Sombrero is one of our go-to restaurants in Columbia City. The food is always great, the drinks are on point, and the people are wonderful. My wife and I would sit at the bar and chat with Meredith back in normal times. These days it's takeout for us, but the food is just as tasty.

My son and I ordered tacos al carbon (beef skirt steak) and enchiladas verde (beef) for pickup. Both orders were ready when I arrived and were amazing. Staff was friendly and I will definitely be taking my whole family back for dinner.

This meal literally cured my depression. Got a veggie burrito that came guac and pico, sopapillas that came w ice cream and chocolate sauce, and a sangria. They threw in chips and salsa too. So basically drinks, an app, entree, and dessert, and I spent maybe 36 dollars after tip. And it was sooooooo amazing and delicious. Will be coming back soon.

Ordered from UberEats. Got the pollo a la crem, chile relleno, and platanos fritos. Neither entree was anything special. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The plantain was really good though... hard to mess up. Wouldn't order again, but it was certainly edible and kinda curbed my craving for the evening.

Good place for traditional “american style” mexican food. Mexican Pizza is great. Fajitas great. Service also great! Very friendly and quick!Drinks: Margaritas are sooo sweet. Sugar bomb! Not a fav. Most the drinks seem to have a “mix” so that’s a no for me. I prefer a better cocktail. Beer selection is nice!

Do you like Mexican food and also being happy? If yes, El Sombrero is for you. I love this place! We used to live nearby and came here all the time and we still come even after moving 30ish minutes away. Let me break it down Covid precautions: Listing this first in case you're worried. Every other table is off-limits, the staff wears gloves and masks. Salsa: Great, clearly handmade in the best way. The spiciness does vary but I still attempt to eat my weight in chips and salsa every time. Margaritas: Great and most (but not all) are huge. The tamarind margarita with a sugar rim is my go to. The sangria is also great. Rice and beans: BOTH are flavorful and delicious. Some places get the beans right but not the rice, or vice versa. El Sombrero does both right Portions: Huge. I normally eat half there and get another meal later, which is delightful. Service: Great. The wait staff was already nice when we were new. Now that we're regulars, they remember us and greet us when they see us. They remember our drink orders and that I don't eat dairy. Food: Delicious. El Sombrero does the best carne asada I've ever had. I try to order it at other places and it's just not the same. My husband and I both love the sopitos and he likes the camarones y carne asada, which comes with a satisfying amount of mushrooms. Conclusion: I could live here and you should come eat here. Thank you for attending my TedTalk

The chicken fajitas are quite good. Cocktails to go? Even better.

El Sombrero as always was great! One thing you hope for in a restaurant you visit regularly is that your favorite dishes are consistent. In this regard, El Sombrero never disappoints. Not only reliable, but plentiful. The takeout included a big bag of their fresh tortilla chips and lots of salsa. The bonus? You can order your margaritas at the desk in the phone-in line, even if you ordered through one of the apps like GrubHub. Let's keep this neighborhood restaurant going. Explore their expansive menu and give them a chance if you haven't already!

I grew up a kid in the Southwest and a lifelong fanatic of Mexican food. My boyfriend, however, is neither, so when he said tonight he was willing to order Mexican food, you can bet that I was very selective - this place had great reviews and I went through the menu painstakingly to get what the boyfriend could handle - something with beef and flour tortillas, nothing spicy, no guac, no dairy. I chose the carne asada. For myself, it was easy, as I wanted crunch and the taco salad was a no brainer. For dessert, I knew he would like the churros, but I asked for them with no ice cream, as neither of us can really handle regular ice cream. Why am I going into all this detail? To tell you that El Sombrero did not disappoint IN ANY ASPECT. I was skeptical - how was great Mexican food going to be delivered to my door? I'll tell you. Each item was packaged meticulously with great care (by which I mean HEART) and with extreme wisdom as to how food actually travels. Everything arrived pristine. (I should add a shout out to the delivery driver, who texted me in advance and told me he was on his way, something rare). And ALL of my picky order - they got every single thing right. Everything I asked for on the side - was on the side. As for the food itself, it was AMAZING. I have not heard my boyfriend exclaim so many times about how delicious something was - EVER - and he actually slapped my hand away from the churros! What a treat and I only hope that each subsequent order will be as wonderful. Muchas Gracias. You made our night and maybe our whole week. Be safe.

This place always keeps me coming back! The house salsa is outstanding to start with. I get the chicken chimichanga and it is always nice and crispy. The beans and rice have the perfect amount of flavor and saltiness. I like to balance all that out with a delicious margarita. Service is amazing and you won't be disappointed. ?
