Generous and nicely varied portions in the bento boxes. The salmon collar was fine. The karaage chicken was well cooked but too cold by the time we got it home. I'm sure it would have been great if we'd been able to have it at the restaurant. The matcha roll cake is listed as their most popular dessert -- it's easy to understand why. An outstanding balance of colors, textures and flavors. I hope to remember to get it every time!

Their sushi is good! Ocean Platter is made fresh upon our order. Refreshing rolls, we had the White Emperor rolls. Then the desserts - yuzu panna cotta, strawberry mochi - all light and just right. New favorite place for desserts in town.

Sushi was mediocre and overpriced. We did lunch carry out so it's possible it's better when you eat there. There are better options in the area in terms of quality and price.

We picked up some great food before a movie yesterday. Everything was wonderful and fresh. I especially liked the California Roll. The green salad had a wonderful sesame flavor and was quite big. The Katsu Bowl was a winner. This place is take out only right now. I hope they will allow indoor dining sometime soon. I will be going back. Also some great desserts like cheesecakes and puddings.

Good sushi, fresh and convenient. Prices seem rather high as this is mostly a take-out place. They charge prices as high as the local best sit-in places. Also my recent take out didn't come with ginger or wasabi - that was a let down. Desserts are very very good but I wouldn't use that as a reason to buy the sushi.

Great California rolls, great mousse cake. This really hits the spot with my wife as well. Will come again to try other items on the menu.

We live by this small Japanese restaurant and never tried it. Got sushi takeout and curry last night. So fresh and well made!! We appreciate you and will be back!

Ordered some sushi from Modern through Grubhub. I tried the crunchy backed salmon dinner and shrimp tempura roll dinner. The sushi was okay. It was $25

Yes!!!!! I'll say it again for the people in the back- yyyyaaaaeeeesaassssss! So cute, so good! Yeeeaaaassss! It's that time of the year again where restaurant week reigns supreme, and this time they didn't miss! I had their restaurant week special which was a salmon box. Everything was perfect, especially the salmon belly, grilled salmon and salmon sashimi! Everything was fresh tasty and out of this world.Despite this location doubling as a bakery, they know how to make sushi and prepare wonderful pastries. The matcha cheesecake was superb with plenty of fresh matcha powder on top and mung beans on the bottom. This was easily my favorite matcha desert ever! While they don't have indoor seating, I saw two small tables outside. I'll be going back and happy freaking restaurant week!

Lovely store and employees! Got some great suggestions for bentos for the family. The food was delicious and nutritious! They also sell some goods like bags and cups which were very cute.

I can't remember the exact rolls I ordered, but I was pleasantly surprised that we have a delicious sushi spot in the neighborhood! The flavor was delicious and the prices affordable. Sushi can be very hit or miss if ordering delivery but Modern Japanese did not disappoint. I would love to do dine in, but I'm not sure if they're still only open for delivery and take out. Either way, they're worth the drive!

Their sushi-meshi (rice) is excellent as good as we have sushi in Japan. Their seafood and vegetables are all fresh. We normally don't really care for fusions, but our daughter loves their Big Bang roll and White Emperor roll. They are also fresh and unique taste. Their Ocean platter is our go to dish and I think their price are reasonable specifically for sushi platters. Their dishes and tastes are consistent. They pack very carefully and neat, and they never miss any for delivery which makes my life easy :) This place is a hidden gem for us :)

Great sushi, but also great cakes. Glad to have this in the neighborhood. Little patio in the back makes it quite nice in the summer

I've only ordered the pastries from Setsuko at Modern Japanese Cuisine through Uber eats. Packaging was well done and on time. If you are used with Fuji Bakery and Tokara maybe this place will disappoint you. I believe they have a chance to improve because some items were really well executed such as the cheesecake and yuzu panacotta. Meanwhile the custard cream, flourless cake and mochi were flavorless and mochi with totally bad texture.I would still check the sushi place because the pictures are promising.
