Always had the best care at the ER dept. They were attentive, professional, and made sure I was getting the care I needed. Dr Lau saved my life more than once.

I planned 1 external hemmroidectomy. During the visit the doctor decided to do 3. Before hand they told me I'd have to be put asleep for the internal one. I wanted to be awake, and we planned on only doing the one. The doctor was very nice and fast. I kept asking if they could prescribe my pain pills BEFORE my surgery. And they kept avoiding the ?. They told me the numbing would last 1/2 hours. Well once I got home about 30 min later I was in excruciating pain. Then I had to wait hours for the pharmacy. Why wouldn't they plan this ahead of time? Then I get my pills and it's only enough for 1 day and a half. They told me to try over the counter and I did and it doesn't do anything. I had to call over 10 times to get a refill. I've never had a problem before getting a surgery. They usually give you too much medication just to be safe. This was the most painful surgery, and if I knew they wouldn't be providing enough pain relief to last, I wouldn't have done it. I wish I got my surgery somewhere else. I hope someone reads this review before scheduling.

I have unfortunately had to go to the hospital a few times in the past 5 years. There is a wait, but this is the way of most hospitals now. However, I have always been treated very well.

you might say I'm a frequent visitor at St. Joseph's. a few things to consider...nursing - I have never been treated with better care, anywhere, than at St. Jo's. I have been coming here since 2004 for my heart work. a better trained, friendlier staff, you would will be hard pressed to find. from e/r to discharge, professional courtesy is the watchword. and friendly too. staff - some of the best doctors in the country are based here.. again, their training is top notch, served up in courteously, professionally trained doses.in short, if you're in need of a hospital, you can't do better than St. Jo's.

I went to Saint Joe's because I got Covid, but I also have severe asthma and sickle cell. I went in the ambulance so there was no wait at that point. When I got to the room in the emergency department, the nurse came in and asked me questions but never listened to the answers. They took a Covid test, but never told me the results and I asked a few times. I asked for my daughter to come into the room with me because I was having brain cloud for the fever. I have been running. They wouldn't let her come in until the very end and I was unable to relay to her any findings. They didn't share any findings. The nurse gave me Dilaudid which is routine. I reminded her to please inject it slowly so that I wouldn't get sick. She injected it fast, and I got very very sick, but it was time for me to be discharged. The nurse came into the doorway and told me to "take all that stuff off", that was referring to, the pads all over my chest and stomach for some sort of echo gram, the thing that was on my finger to take my vitals, and my oxygen mask. I was still feeling very sick, having difficulty breathing, and in a lot of pain. They got my chart wrong and confused my allergies and medication's. This can be dangerous. I will never go to this facility again. I advise strongly against it. They appear to be over, logged and underpaid perhaps. I'm not sure, but this is not Healthcare.

This place is amazing if you need help as when I walked in Karl asked me how I was feeling and told him, I had my Quadruple by-pass Surgery there last year and was having problems sleeping, he got me back ASAP and saw Maddie the cool RN who was multitasking like the best RN, I ever encountered as I Volunteered at St. Joe's for many years and know they are the best Hospital period in Tacoma as I live in Gig Harbor and St. Anthony's is good, but if your really in a serious condition, go to St. Joe's as they are five stars above everyone, I must of saw 5 doctors and they got me a EKG in minutes and a Echocardiogram within 20 minutes, after reading some of these posts, they make me laugh as if your really sick, the professionals there treat you like your a millionaire as they have so much experience in helping people, I always thought the Gold standard was UWMC being a Veteran, but St. Joe's is the Gold Standard, just be sober and really need help and they jump into action, thank you Karl & all the M.D's who guided me through my episode that day and Maddie the RN with a smile that makes you know you are truly at the right place for care, I Love this place and will always go there first as they saved me again....thank you again, St. Joe's Don....Gig Harbor Wa.

1 My brother was there due to unrelated complications from a prior surgery. Staff & doctors were great. Very through & attentive.2 The hospital cafe was great. We ate lunch & many hot & cold food options. The food we got could have been served in any restaurant.3 They have valet parking!

Terrible experience. On ward is the worst. Almost killed a set of twins because they can’t take two minutes to do their jobs

Your nursing staff is horrible I do not recommend this hospital for anyone the way you treated a stroke victim who can’t move there right side and to get an attitude over it it absolutely disgusting behavior

I am having a real problem trying to see the forest, with all the smoke & mirrors being displayed by St. Joseph Hospital. I was recently seen at St. Joseph Hospital for chest pains. They found 3 blood clots, 2 in my left leg and 1 in my right lung. They took care of this problem and I was released from the hospital. On 11 Mar 2023, I receive a email from Northwest Emergency Physicans LLC stating that I owe them $182.58. Now this is the very first time I have heard of this business. There were many items left off of this email billing statement. Starting with my full name & address, date of service, attending doctor, contact address and local phone number for this business and my only way to settle this bill was online. BIG RED FLAG //////// I decided to contact my insurance provider to see if this business had filed a claim with them and they had no such business contact.. Very Strange !!!!!! I then decided to contact the billing dept at St. Joseph Hospital A lady answered the phone that I could hardly understand and started to give me a son & dance and the run around, not giving me the answers I was looking for, so I hung up the phone.. I then decided to speak with a staff member from the hospital to see if I could get some answers, boy was I surprised and shocked at the answer. My question was --- who staffs & operates the emergency Dept at St. Joseph Hospital. Now hold on to your hat. This is all covered by Northwest Emergency Phtsicans LLC Their address is the very same as the hospital / 1717 S. J. St, Tacoma, Wa. Although it does not seem that the right hand knows what the left hand it doing. Strange way to run a railroad. I have no intention to pay this very vague billing statement from a unknown business, until I have like Paul Harvey, THE REST OF THE STORY.

I was involved in a car accident while on a road trip. I was treated like total garbage as a suspected drunk driver, which turned out to be completely false. They claimed they could not access my emergency contact, due to my insurance being from Oregon, and their computers couldn't interact with anything out of state. They kicked me out on the sidewalk with me barely knowing who I was due to my concussion. Luckily, the one phone number I was able to remember was my elderly mother's landline, and within 5 hours I was able to be picked up by my girlfriend. I received a bill in the mail today, and they confirmed they had all of my information, which would include my emergency contact, so no further action on my part is required. They did give me a bus pass to go away from the hospital in a town where I had no bearings, and again, with a concussion. Complete failure on their part. Also, if they didn't render appropriate care because they suspected me as a drunk driver, they violated my Constitutional rights under the 5th, 6th, 8th and 14th Amendments. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL.

made an appointment, waited for a call from the doctor for 2 weeks. As a result, the appointment was canceled without giving a reason or warning. terrible attitude.

The ER was not good, except for the night nurse who was wonderful, Xander. However, once out of his overnight on a gurney in a hallway in ER (admittedly it was crowded, overwhelmed), my 93 year old dad had surgery to repair his broken femur and was admitted to a room and the care has been absolutely top drawer ever since. ERs these days all seem to be in disarray and not able to offer the care that their staff would likely prefer. St. Joseph is not an exception to this, but once you are admitted to the hospital, it's a totally different thing, as in remarkable. The floor nurses are amazing, and the physical therapy folks as well.

As of last month (November) they have beds leaking fluids/blood in the labor unit. GROSS and DISTURBING. as of October, their systems were down. Which means they were missing all patient files and were STILL taking people to their ER. This is not acceptable in the slightest. Our healthcare system is failing all of us and needs to be held accountable.

The Doctors are great. The nurses are are great compliment to the Doctors and patients. The Billing department is horrid. They do not code things correctly and will not discuss the matter. They send bills but with no corrections which force you to contact the insurance company and appeal the incorrect billing codes used. The billing departments would rather right things off and force you to pay for things you should not be billed for if they had billed correctly. To make matters worse they publish that hospitals are loosing money.......Gee - I wonder why?
