Unfortunately during this global pandemic, the Swiss has closed it's doors forever. It was a gather place for a whole lot of UWT folks and we are all saddened by this loss.

This is definitely a posthumous review covering all the happy memories from this place. It's so sad to see it go. It's been a regular stop for my whole family practically since it opened. My mom worked downtown in the 90s and she and her co-workers discovered this place almost immediately. She was a regular before word even made it up north to me that Tacoma had a new pub. She would stop in on her lunch hour for a sandwich and chips. And usually she'd either be with co-workers, run into others, or see somebody else she knew. It was that friendly kind of place (and Tacoma was a little smaller 27 years ago). She got me hooked on the lunches here on my visits to T-Town to see her, even though she lived out northeast and coming into town wasn't always a trip we'd make on her days off. For the Swiss, it was worth it. Anyway, I didn't even really grasp how big the place was, and what a fun bar it was, until I'd been there a few times. Turns out when I came down to visit friends from high school, they'd want to come here to shoot pool and drink beers. The neighborhood was steadily improving around it this entire time. NOW this part of Tacoma is funky and charming and it's nice pretty much all around downtown. In the early and mid 90s, this was a pretty rough neighborhood. The Swiss always stood tall, though. After they'd been open about 10 years, I realized they had live music pretty regularly. NoMeansNo from BC toured through town and played here. It was just the right size venue for technical hardcore punk...which, sadly, doesn't always draw a huge crowd. Oh, well. More room for me to jump around! Rob, the singer/bass player, was clearly impressed with the room. During a break between songs at one point, he looked around and said "this place is really nice. So much nicer than last time. When we played Tacoma before, they put us in that old porno theater." That would have been the Community World, which I don't think is there anymore, either. I slowed down a little coming here the last few years, but still stopped in for lunch or beers. I always loved it. It always felt like it had always been here, and always would be. Good food, food beers, friendly staff, friendly crowds, live music, pool, darts...it's really the kind of place every neighborhood needs, and anybody should be proud to town. R.I.P. The Swiss (and lots of other cool places too).

Sorry for the loss. What a great place

We shared a pizza, and it was absolutely divine! I don't usually like to pay too much for pizza, but I have to make an exception because it is completely worth it.

I have a lot of great memories at the Swiss, truly will be missed. The Swiss should produce a Documentary of the 27 years of all the Life experiences of owners, customers, organizations touched. Thank you for the good times!

We have enjoyed the Swis many times and look forward to visits in the future but we've walked up from the boat twice and found they are not open even though their hours onlines say otherwise. Maybe just a fix but call first. Is my recommenation

Definitely an amazing place to have a drink and eat good food. Met a group of friends here, my first time here. The only thing they charge $10 to get in, I suppose for the band but I think if people actually have dinner reservations it should be discounted. I had the mac and cheese, really delicious. Had my first dirty Shirley! The drinks are priced low. Thanks!

I'm giving this three stars for the tater tots!! They were so delicious and crunchy. I was not a big fan of the swiss sandwich though. The swiss dip did not taste like anything. Dipping the sandwich into it did not do anything to the taste as well. I do not know what the purpose that the dip was for. The sandwich was alright. I've had more flavorful sandwiches elsewhere. The flavors of the sandwich were very bland and lacked seasoning.

I had my first time at this restaurant today and if I'm honest the Cajun Tots are to die for! I mean probably poor choice of words in this pandemic but I wish I was lying, it'd be worth it!! And the burger was astounding! Blue cheese, bacon, tots, I damn near died choking on my saliva! Very wonderful service as well, i will definitely be back here soon!

Fresh salad from a pub! YES! and house made salad dressing!? Who knew! The Swiss takes pride in the food they serve and I can tell based on how fresh made everything looks and tastes! The Swiss Dip is delicious and you cant go wrong with their cheeseburger and fries! And this is take out! I can't wait to go back after self-quarantine and enjoy The Swiss in person, but for now I'll enjoy their takeout menu -it's 5 star!

Stopped in to this place on March 13, 2020 (Friday the 13th) for the first time and I gotta say I knew I was in the right spot when I saw them playing the movie Friday on their tvs and the bartenders quoting movie lines like "I know ya don't smoke weed, I know this. But I'm gonna get you high today cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job and you ain't got ish to do." (Edited for yelpers) Plus, the food was delish!! I was extremely impressed with the jalapeño artichoke dip!!! No picture because we gobbled it up!! It's got a dive bar feel and they host live music events so I honestly wasn't expecting the food to be so delectable, but it was!! Can't wait to go back when all this COVID-19 is over, but they are offering take out on select days and times.

Food is always tasty. Wished they had a bit more offered from their usual menu but I understand during these crazy times we must adjust.
