I was wondering at the audacity of a Mexican place moving in right next door to another Mexican place… like overkill, but I thought, what the heck, I’ll try it out.I’ll say, straight up. The enchilada was great, even though it was expensive. Lots of different flavors, fresh, I loved the little potatoes. I liked the black beans. I like you are served tortilla chips and the salsa was great which is a service that is fast disappearing from Mexican places. But now I’ll tell you what I didn’t like. That enchilada took forever. I mean bizarrely long with no explanation whatsoever. And was it worth the wait? Not really. The waitress was nice, but it was strange. And something else. Maybe it was just the night, but I didn’t see any Latinos in the restaurant eating. Most of the patrons were older Caucasian folks. Next door at Don Pedro’s, where the food is also great and much faster as well as much cheaper, there is a much more mixed crowd. And to be completely honest, is where I will be taking my business. It’s not as fancy, but it’s very good and I don’t sit there starting to feel like I’ve fallen into a time warp.I understand they were busy, but at those prices you hire more help or you lose customers. Top dollar for a particular cuisine requires top performance. That, is non negotiable.

By far the best and most authentic Mexican in the Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek area!

Husband, toddler and I went to try La Valentina for the first time and it will most likely be our last. To start off, when we walked in the door no one greeted us. We waited for a few minutes and a waiter from across the restaurant asked “how many?” And another young girl finished cleaning a table and just came by and placed the menus on it without saying anything so we stayed put until eventually the first waiter motioned us to sit. I ordered a Mojarra Frita, I received a Mojarra Frita a La Diabla (not what I wanted). I masked the waitress if this is how they automatically serve their mojarras and she responded with “Oh I assumed you wanted it A La Diabla because you’re Mexican”. I didn’t make a fuss and ate most of it as I do eat spicy food, but I was craving a simple mojarra with lime & tapatío sauce. My husband got a Cóctel de Camarón and both dishes needed seasoning and more flavor. The beans & rice were just alright and the cocktails were nothing special. One plus was their chips & salsa…my toddler loved em’!

is expensive place to eat, what makes you feel the expensive is because the food is the same as is, in any other place..they are more places less pricey with same or better food, the good thing is they have hand made tortillas, if you decide to go be ready to spend some money.. because is not cheap

First time trying today. Ordered a Carne asada burrito everything was great, flavor portion etc, but sat way to long unwrapped, ya know how that changes the tortilla... would be nice to have a salsa and veggie bar like next door at Don Pedro's. I feel Don Pedro's is better

La Valentina was better than I thought it would be and it's a sit down, waited place rather than walk up. First, the carne asada was almost as if I made it myself in the backyard on coals. Definite ? flavor and it was still tender and that's impressive. I went for the sopa de albóndigas (meatballs) and it was a little different being chicken meatballs rather than beef, but still really good for a not so common soup to find in restaurant. Serving it with that fresh tortilla quesadilla was great too given a tomato based broth. The salsa... definitely fire roasted bidniss in there and almost too good (albeit not really spicy). My oldest would probably drink it if she finds it in the fridge...damn salsa fiend. Then just a big ol tamarindo jar to wash it all down because because. Definitely going to try some more things there.
