The bakery and bread we bought both tasted day-old. Not as good as it used to be. My family and I have been customers at the National on 16th St since the '60's and have also frequented the Greendale location. Maybe they are just not turning it over fast enough. I miss the National jelly rolls from days gone by, filled with an excellent raspberry jam. The bread was absolutely dry and tasteless. Unfortunately, not a lot of stand alone bakeries to choose from anymore. Probably a very tough business.

I went to one of the local bakeries on Lincoln Avenue to get four dozen brat buns and they did not have any? They informed me they don’t really do brat buns? So I called the national bakery in greendale and I spoke with Joanna.She was more than willing to help me, she called their store on 16th St., and ordered them for pick up at 8 AM the next morning fresh out of the oven!!!Thanks for the extra effort Joanna!National is my new bakery!
