Excellent drinks. The mix masters behind the bar take their craft seriously. They make sure you are enjoying yourself, every sip of the way. Cheers!

Very disappointed. My wife and I stopped by for a drink while out on our date night. Those of you with children understand the importance of these night, as well as the time restraints. I ordered a Manhattan, my wife orders a margarita. Her drink arrived in about 10 mins. After waiting 30 mins we inquired about my drink and were assured that it will be right out. After another 30 minutes, I went to the bar to see what was going on. I explained to the bar tender that I have been waiting an hour for my drink. He shrugged, looked at his watch (as if he'd been personally keeping track of my wait time) and said Ok. As I walked away I heard the bar tender mock me and laugh about it with a few people at the bar. Another 10 minutes past, no drink. I asked for the check as we needed to get back home to the kids, and got out of there. I will never return, and urge you not to waist your time either. Also worth mentioning that my wives drink was subpar at best...

Went to Boar & Barrel on Sunday for the outdoor pop-up menu. It was fun! Some kinks we're getting worked out on their first day back, such as not having prices on the sign and the signs falling down, but regardless, it was enjoyable. Lots of space between tables and masks were in use. I got the Swim Good cocktail and my boyfriend got the Kebesa (sp?). Both tasty, mine was refreshing and almost seemed healthy with the cucumber addition. We shared the full chips and salsa (great salsa), I got the crispy prosciutto melon and boyfriend got the pork end tacos. All was good, my prosciutto was truly crispy and all the plates were great to share. Would recommend as a safe outdoor dining spot. I look forward to returning, possibly when things settle down and we can be inside!

Good place for shared plates, whiskey and bourbon.

When the classically trained chefs and self indulgent foodies choose a place to eat, I pay attention. This is where we celebrated a very special chef's birthday recently and the food was fabulous. They easily accommodated 12 of us with advance reservations and everything from the service to the drinks were attended to with care. I love the ambiance of the space but you should come for the food. It really is incredibly well done and well paired.

We stopped by Boar & Barrel for a quick bite. The cocktails were delicious and the server was really great - attentive and friendly. But the food was so underwhelming. We spent almost $200 and left feeling disappointed. Our cheese board was super over priced and only came with two different types of cheeses. We ordered the panzanella salad and it was basically a handful of mixed greens, a four stale croutons, no dressing, and three slices of cold grilled zucchini. It was horrible! Every dish we ordered was bland and way way way over priced. Might be a good spot for a drink. But definitely don't go for a meal.

The cod is by far the best fish in Madison. I wish I wouldn't have had to share. Great bar, wonderful service, amazing food.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place because of its convenient location. We wanted something close to the Bartell theater, so this place was great, as it's across the street. We were immediately greeted and seated when we walked in the door. It was a bit dark, but there were candles lit at every table, which offered a romantic vibe. This is definitely an adult only restarant and bar. Our server was very friendly. They displayed a large variety of liquors, many of which you won't find in the average wisconsin bar. The food was delicious, as was the wine. I highly recommend the sweet potato puree. Our food arrived in a timely manner and even though the restaurant was filling up, we weren't pressured to leave. I would definitely recommend the Boar & Barrel to anyone.

Very cold day for walking...found this small gem to warm us up with very creative cocktails. The place is small and cozy with a friendly staff.

I have to say, I am a bit disappointed with Boar & Barrel. I keep coming back because it's within walking distance and I want so badly for it to be a great experience, but I'm usually not as satisfied as I want to be. There have been times I've come here and had the best old fashioned ever. There are times I've come and had the worst. Because it is so unpredictable, I can't say I want to come back. As far as the food is concerned, I again have a neutral rating. For the quality, it's overpriced. I can think of plenty of other restaurants in Madison that serve more delicious food at a comparable or lower price point. A table for two (2 drinks, an app, 2 entrees) could easily run about $100. The bar menu, however, seems to be appropriately priced and was tasty. While the bartender can be moody, the waitress that is usually there is very attentive and personable. Perhaps Boar & Barrel is worth a try - I have nothing terribly negative to say, I just haven't been impressed overall.

I can't believe I waited as long as I did to step inside and enjoy. Excellent drinks, friendly staff, and super cozy. And yet I can still catch a ball game (subtle, subtle, but still there). I recommend the Hummingbird if you want a light refreshing drink.

I live in Kentucky (bourbon capital). This bar has some amazing bourbon and very far prices. The owner Josh is extremely nice and very knowledgeable. As a bourbon lover, I highly recommend this classy bar.
