2 stars for nostalgia and matzo ball soup. But shouldn't a deli offer real pastrami? This place is supposed to be the best deli in MKE (since Jake's is taking a standing eight count, if not actually knocked out), yet they don't offer legit pastrami. And pastrami is the foundation of a real deli. But Benji offers thin yet weirdly hard to chew slices of past-its-sell-by-date pastrami. No flavor, bad texture, not fresh, expensive. The rye and brown mustard are the highlights of the sandwich. You don't have to be Katz's or Canter's, but cmon. Waterfront Deli serves much better pastrami, and their pastrami is precooked/prepackaged/shipped in from food service. Have a little pride. The best thing Benji offers is their beef hot dog. Which I can make at home. It's a shame that they treat their customers with such disregard.

I've eaten at these types of delis in Chicago and New York. For the price, their pastrami sandwich was "sad." It was supposed to be served hot, not cold!, and really very skimpy on the portion, and the pickle tasted like it came right from the can.I will never eat there again, sorry Benji, it was experience I am trying to forget.

Great matzo ball and split pea soups. They're nice and hot when you get them- even on carry out. Sandwiches are great, too.

Never coming back. The sandwich was very dry and lacked flavor. The rye bread was old and the restaurant was not very clean.

I usually don't leave negative reviews, but this is by far the worst pastrami Sammy I've ever had. The meat was like 70% fat! Barely edible. For the price, the meat is not up to par. Had high hopes for this place, only to be let down. Drove 45 min to come try it, won't be back again.

Everything we ever had at Benjy's was terrific. Jewish delicatessens in the Midwest are far superior to any and every deli outside of that section of the country. Quantity, New York's M.O. does not beat quality. The corned beef is more flavorful, the bread, unseeded rye, is outstanding with soft body and a crunchy crust, and the rest of the fare is equally outstanding. While Chicago is but 90 miles away, it's unnecessary to leave Milwaukee for deli food.
The best corned beef. Good eggs, too.
