I came to review this place as an RIP. Covid-19 quarantine in 2020 really hit this restaurant hard and they had to close down. Currently, they're looking for a new venue to reopen in the same area, but are considering themselves permanently closed until they find something suitable.Johnny V's was always a local favorite diner, with a large menu and prompt, friendly service. Oddly enough, their Italian fare (pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, etc) was among the best in Milwaukee, even accounting for much more expensive places. Their trademark family red sauce simply couldn't be beat.For breakfast, I'd always order peach crepes, even though they were technically off menu, they'd make them anyway. They weren't the best peach crepes I'd had, but the fact that they'd make the exception for me, even on a busy morning, really made me happy.For the portions, the price also really couldn't be beat. I am very sad to see this place go after 28 years of steady business.

Sad that it took me till they closed to write a review since I've been a regular for 18 years. This was the place to be in the smokey heyday of late night cafes. thank you for so many good meals and sorry for driving your waitress nuts after 4 hours of ordering fries and grilled cheeses at 4am.

I love that they go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy. They don't even have avocado toast on the menu's but they make it for my grandmother and I. Lovely place.

My friends and I have always loved going to Johnny Vi's for brunch.. The classic feel and awesome service kept us going back for many years. Although we couldn't dine in this time around due to the COVID-19, the service is still amazing with our take out order.. Craving for breakfast food, I told my husband it couldn't be any breakfast food. It had to be from Johnny Vi's and so it was.. I ordered my usual, the Robert E Lee special and my husband ordered his favorite, the Country Fried Steak (pictured since he was too excited to eat). The wait time was estimated to be 15 minutes. However we got there to pick up our food in 10 and our food was already being packed. Couldn't be anymore happy with the service! Thank you staffs for always being on your A Game!

Just picked up burgers for dinner.. they were great! Big burgers, done perfectly! Support local restaurants! You won’t be sorry going here! A real gem. And the service is as good as the food.. pick up or get it delivered!

Nice fish fry wish I would have checked to go bag. Missed my fried Shrimp but rest was fine.
Friendly staff! Great food for great prices. Fun decor! I’d recommend the California Eggs Benedict for brky & a BLT for lunch. Never been for dinner.

Recently went back to Johnny Vs for their AYCE shrimp special.. got the peel and eat shrimp. Ordered it around 7:45pm, so it wasn't close to closing time. Our server brought my wife's meal (she had the tour of Italy special, I believe it's caled- she liked her meal) and my meal around 8pm. Everything's great, salad was good, shrimp is made just right. Server comes back around 20 minutes later.. doesn't offer more shrimp, indicates that she can take our plates away.. Uhh, I paid $18 for my shrimp dinner for a reason- because it was all you can eat. I had to ask for more shrimp, and did get it 45 minutes after we arrived.. That was the first weird moment. The second weird moment was when I was done with my second plate of shrimp.. mind you, these aren't huge plates they use for the refills, so it's not like I ate a ton more shrimp. The server comes to our table and says she can have the bill ready for us whenever we're done. Again, seeing my empty AYCE should tell most servers to offer me more shrimp, right? She didn't. I was kinda upset that she did that to me twice. A person orders AYCE and has an empty plate, as a server you're supposed to offer another plate. I don't know if Johnny Vs was low on shrimp last night or what, but if they were- just TELL ME when I'm ordering that they have limited quantities. Will I be back ton Johnny Vs? Of course. This incident was just worth mentioning if you ever plan on going there for their AYCE specials.. Personally I think it's more than that but I won't speculate on that here.

This was a really nice place to eat. Very comfortable and the service was great! The food was delicious. I ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs plate. The eggs were perfectly prepared, the sausage gravy was delicious covering the steak. The toast had the perfect amount of butter. I would definitely love to try some of the other items for lunch or dinner.
