We used to love the food here and the experience as well. Everything seems to have gone down hill. Many of our favorite things that kept us driving an hour to eat here are off of the menu. Our service was horrible and what we did order was below average. I am sad to see the decline.

Our first time here and the food was delicious and our waitress Jackie H was an absolute delight! She was defiantly busy but had such a sweet personality, always had a smile, and just a great attitude!

5-star ratings should be by definition hard to obtain. We'll give Kanpai a 4+. The sushi varietals were outstanding, service was very good, enjoyable contemporary ambience, and noise level was moderate. Pricing was a bit high, as we've come to expect in the Third Ward. Kanpai is a little short on red wine selections. There's a perfect space on the menu for one or two red blends. We'll be back!
Our server put our order in wrong, and then had someone else take over. We waited for someone to come give us our check extremely long, and had to literally put our coats out and stand next to our table or somebody came to check us out.

Our first time! We really enjoyed it. Our waiter let us know that the family owns several of our other favorite restaurants. So no surprise we enjoyed it! Looking forward to coming back very soon.

This was our second time at Kanpai. The food was fabulous. We had a large group(13), so we made reservations ahead of time. Everyone ordered something different, and everything I tried was exceptional. I really loved the Hawaiians volcano as they light it at the table, and it brings a beautiful flavor to the roll. I had salmon belly nigiri, and it was exceptional. The Boss roll was so flavorful. We also had the Sweet and Spicy Gyoza which was truly delicious. I can't wait to go back.

This was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had! We went on a Saturday evening, and it was phenomenal. We got seated immediately, and was greeted kindly by our server, Emily. We had fried pork gyoza and the stuffed avocados which were amazing. We also had the crunch munch, rock n’ roll and a California roll. We also dipped on sweet pear drink. Our server was so incredibly attentive and kind. She would see about anything we need. Ultimately, this is a place that every person who loves sushi should go! This is an outstanding place for sushi.

I made a reservation here for a birthday dinner. Our server was nice, but we waited about an hour and a half for our food. The sushi was mediocre and overpriced. One person in my party had to send their food back because their sashimi was frozen in the middle. I think we should have been offered a complimentary item off the menu or a discount off the bill, but we were not. The person in my party was offered a bottle of wine, but she does not drink. No other attempt was made to rectify the situation. Also, the staff was aware that we were celebrating a birthday but nobody really made an effort to make it special, especially after everything that happened. Overall, very disappointing and frustrating experience. I will not be going back.

Am the only person at the sushi bar at the time with one other table in the whole place. I got up and asked to pay for my snaki. Cause that the only thing that I had. A young man comes out to tell me that my food is ready and that it wasn't even that long. My starter was a roll. I paid for my saki and left.

Always great sushi! But it really needs a face lift... booths are ripped, the floor boards are off. The person I was with said “it always seems like they are under construction”. There we cob webs visible. Needs a spruce up.

First-time customer. I made a reservation online. My partner and I arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated right away after a weird interaction with the waitstaff. That was the last time we received any service. After waiting 35 minutes and pressing the service button several times to no avail, we got up and left.Very disappointing experience.

I've been in the search for a good Sushi place. Sadly still looking. Sushi was Ok but roll selection lacking. Seems like more than half of their special rolls are cooked or have cream cheese in them. Cocktail selection lacking. Missed opportunity, looks like they have a full bar. Service was horrible. Not many people on a Saturday and we waited over an hour for our dinner. We had to ask another waiter because ours went missing. Suspect our food was sitting for a while since our only cooked roll was cold.

Everything about this restaurant was great! The service was top notch, as well as the atmosphere. There are plenty of tables and large roomy booths. I HIGHLY recommend getting the stuffed avocado as a starter. For an entree they have a great selection of sushi rolls and other food for the non sushi crowd. Definitely get at least one roll that is served flaming.
