Waiter was a creep. Never there to refill drinks. Had another waiter come get our drinks to refill because this our original waiter was an idiot. Didn't even know the menu. Asked for our steaks cooked (medium rare) and we received them well done. Very disappointed.

Highlights/Lowlights 1) Friendly Service 2) Budget Friendly 3) Mehhhh Food We stopped in to Jalapeños for lunch in late December. We didn't have or need a reservation and were seated right away. There were maybe 5 other tables occupied and a few people seated at the bar. We were promptly brought free chips and salsa. Our server was friendly and took our order rather quickly. I got a margarita to drink. Sadly it wasn't great. I could definitely tell it was just rail tequila and pre-made margarita mix. We waited for quite awhile for our appetizer (the chorizo queso dip) and eventually when our entrees arrived realized that it was forgotten. Our server was kind and brought the appetizer out after we reminded her about it. Our food was very average. I had a tamale which was pretty dry and a very average taco. My husband said his tacos were very mehhhh as well. The best thing was honestly the chorizo queso dip which we did eventually get!

Great place in the heart of Wausau to eat some authentic Mexican food. Service is amazing and the staff is always willing to assist.
Really good food. I had been here previously and the service was terrible so hadn't been back for awhile but decided to give it another try and I'm happy I did. The server was awesome.

We’ve just moved to Wisconsin from Texas and decided to stay in Wausau for the night. The pictures looked good and it was close by our hotel. We were the only table in there at 9 on a Friday, but let me tell you… this was by far the best Mexican food we have had since leaving Texas in June. Wait staff was attentive, food was impeccable and I liked that it was low key! 10/10 will be back!

Disappointed. That is the best I can give them. After reading the reviews it seemed like most loved the food but there were issues with service/staff. My experience was on the other end of the spectrum. Staff was friendly and attentive but the place was also empty on a Wednesday night. Food was far from authentic. I ordered many different things to get a good hold of what they could bring to the taste. First the bad. The margarita was a mix and a poor one at that. The salsa tasted like Rotella poured into a blender and hit blend. Tasted very strongly of canned tomatoes. The average was the Carne asada. The steak was tough without spice. Nice that it came with cactus but even that was rubber. Pico and guacamole were both tasteless like it came straight off the back of the Sysco truck. The good was the tortilla soup which was actually more of a chicken soup. At least it finally had some flavor especially after the waitress brought a house made hot sauce that was the shining star of the meal and actually was finally close to authentic. Cool atmosphere that could be a fun place to bring friends but unfortunately it's not enough to garner a return trip for me. There has got to be better in town. So disappointing.

A co-worker and I were in town for a conference and ended up at Jalapeños for lunch. It was pretty quiet when we arrived at noon on a Thursday and we were seated and served quickly. We ordered the 2 for 1 margaritas— I had a regular lime margarita on the rocks and my co-worker ordered a raspberry margarita, blended. The server seemed to have a hard time understanding us; we are sure that my co-worker’s margarita was not raspberry…. It was maybe strawberry, it has hard to tell. It was also very watery for a blended margarita. We both ordered a lunch special, me the chicken chimichanga and he the ranchero cheesesteak. Our food came out very quickly. The chimichanga was very small, the smallest one I’ve ever had, but they were generous on the cheese sauce. The toppings (guacamole, salsa, lettuce, sour cream) were also generous. The rice and beans were tasty but not warm enough. My co-worker was hungry and scarfed his up.We needed separate bills, and again we had a slight issue/miscommunication with our server about this. He fixed it but had he had a hard time understanding what we needed.I would say that the food and service was pretty average.
