We stopped there at about 630 pm on a Friday for fish fry. They accept reservations but we didn't make one and they were able to actually get us in pretty quick. Service was fast and friendly and fish was delicious! I would definitely recommend!

I was looking forward to having Wiener Schnitzel at the renowned Kegel Inn. The troubles started almost immediately because the space was deafening. We were shouting to make ourselves heard. As we all ordered versions of the Wiener Schnitzel, it seemed easy. But our frenetic server screwed up the order and tried to convince us it wasn't her fault by showing us her ordering machine. She was the one who inputted the information. Wisconsin has the best veal in the world; Provimi and Strauss are prized purveyors. However, my schnitzel had a sliver of meat, and the schnitzel was soggy and greasy. I couldn't eat it. After two bites, I was done. The green beans were good. Hey, charge more for the schnitzel and give us some meat. This was my second time at Kegels. The initial visit was for their fish fry, which I found mediocre. Perhaps my expectations are too high. Everyone seems to love Kegel's except for me.

Stopped in at Kegel Inn, on 2/23 @ 2:30. We figured go early and beat the rush since an article appeared in local newspaper 2/21. We entered the restaurant and not acknowledged by bartender since no hostess. Apparently she was busy setting tables. Not a problem. She yelled from the dining room that they were clearing tables and it would be a few minutes. No, welcome, thanks for waiting and no enjoy your dinner. Interesting start to our dinner. The server came over and took our drink order, when she came back took our order. We ordered 2 classic fish frys. One with potato pancakes (disappointing)and the other baked potato. The server delivered our dinners. Lets start with the fish 4 bland small pieces no seasoning. Coleslaw was tasteless. Disappointing fish fry all around. The server never checked on us until we asked for our bill. Lots of places in Milwaukee for a great fish fry.

We got lunch with friends. Busy but steady service and atmosphere very pleasant. Fish fry family style was more than enough. Tasty and will be back.

Ask for Mary as your server, she is AMAZING!! Even on a busy Fish Fry Friday, with large tables she tended to our needs before we knew we needed them. She is wonderful! Now food, potato pancakes the way they should be... Crispy and flavorful! Bluegill, Walleye wonderful! Cheesecake to die for. The atmosphere was busy but super festive with a large table singing a German song! The historic architecture of the interior was wonderful as well.Be SURE to make a reservation early if planning a Friday visit, 2 weeks taught us "same day reservation" isn't available on a Friday. We booked a full week in advance and definitely worth it. In an extended visit I have been to 7 fish Fry's from Packing House to Grangers to here.... #1 best for food, service and atmosphere!

3-1-24 Friday night the wife and I went there for the first time. We walked in the place and it was packed, it was 5:55 and we had reservations for 6:00 for 2. Other people walked in and asked for wait time and were told 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. I expected to be waiting for a while to my surprise they called us at 5:59 and took us to our table. I had the classic fish fry with potato pancakes and my wife had the Walleye. We ordered cocktails and they arrived in about 5 minutes and we proceeded to order our food. Food arrived within 10 minutes. The fish was very good, moist with a nice thin crispy coating. We both enjoyed the flavor and quality of the food and the service we received. We never felt rushed and even had dessert, a very good apple strudel. I complimented the hostess on the fact that we were seated on time. Our total time in the restaurant was 1 hour and 10 minutes. We will be going back to try some of the German food. Great job girls

My husband, his parents and I stopped by Kegel's Inn for dinner on a Saturday night when they first open at 4:00. We were served immediately, if not even a few minutes before they opened. I ordered one of their beers (they were out of the Kolsch I wanted), so I ordered their lager instead. Everyone else had soda or water. This place is cozy and fills up quickly, so I would recommend having a reservation or getting there early. My husband and his dad ordered the beef roulade, while my mother-in-law ordered a burger and I ordered two sausages, one chicken and the other one Polish. Most entrees come with a soup or a salad, which I ordered the chicken dumpling soup. It was fine, it was mainly broth and dumplings, in which I think I had one piece of chicken in the whole cup. My husband's beef roulade was a tasty bite and served with German egg noodles. My sausages were okay, just regular sausage...nothing special. They came with potato salad, but just an FYI, it is served warm, not cool like the potato sausage we are used to here in the states. They do serve bread and butter before your meal comes out, but it takes a little bit to get. All in all, it was a fine experience and I would go back to try something new. I do wish they had like a chicken schnitzel on their menu to try too. Most of their dishes are beef, veal or rabbit.

Fish fry Friday is awesome. Had the "classic". Nice amount of fish. The potato pancakes are great. Friend had the German potato salad as a side and reported it was very goo, too. Great beer selection. It gets crowded. So, make sure you have a reservation. And have some patience while the bar staff serves the tons of people waiting. They ran about 15 minutes late on the reservation, but we didn't care. They have a real nice outside area with a warming fire, but it was too cold for us. The cold did not deter others! Highly recommend. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal last night at Kegel's Inn. As we headed into the Lenten season, we had a fish fry on our mind and wanted to try this classic restaurant that has been serving the he area for 100 years. We had reservations during its peak dinner time and waited around the crowded bar for about 10 minutes. The restaurant was filled with people having a good time. Friday night was their Fish Fry Menu. It still offered variety and options, just not their traditional German food. We each had the classic cod fish fry with either the fries or potato pancakes (which were available for an up charge). Our server, Heather, was excellent and answered any questions that we had. She checked on us and chatted at the end of the meal. It added to the friendly, fun vibe. We started our meal with a good New England clam chowder. Then, the classic fish fry. Our plate was filled with four pieces of crispy cod. The potato pancakes were delicious. Their drink menu ranged from a good selection of import and domestic beers, wines or another classic, an old fashioned. It was a wonderful meal and we're already talking about going back for their German food.

If you are looking for a delicious authentic Wisconsin fish fry - look no further than Kegel's Inn! Hubby and I were first timers and wanted to make sure we got the whole experience. We opted to share our meal starting with the clam chowder, I would say I've had better in the Milwaukee area but it was still quite good. We then ordered the 3-2-1 plater with fries and an extra order of potato pancakes. After leaving the restaurant I did regret not trying the German potato salad - next time. I'm not normally a big cod person but out of the 3 fish on the plater that was my favorite! It wasn't too buttery or dry and the breading was the perfect crisp. I also liked the potato pancake but similar to the chowder it wasn't the best I've ever had ever. Service was busy but she was attentive. Hubby and I agreed that this might be a good place to go with another couple or small group (~6 people) to share items and get the whole experience.

First off - Our waitress was wonderful. But the food was terrible. Worst schnitzel I've ever had. It tasted sour and almost burnt. I had 2 bites. My husband also tried it and agreed. He had the pork shank and found it very bland and unappetizing. Spätzle cost $3 extra and was bland and overcooked. Our waitress took $5 off our bill. We will never be back. Worst German food that I've ever had. We were so excited to try this historical restaurant and were so disappointed.

Had a GREAT time at Kegels inside the Yurt. Food was great, they have something for everyone even a vegan fish fry option! Wesley was an amazing server and made our family experience one to remember! We will be back! Thank you!

We had our Christmas dinner on 12-23-23 at Kegel's Inn and I found it less than OK. First of all, it's a building that is about 100 years old. My wife is handicapped and we needed two other people to help us get in. Second, I think the cook never had any experience making wienerschnizel. Due to the trouble we had getting in and the lack of quality food, this was probably the last time we will go there. Not worth the effort.
