My wife and I went to The Union the past two Mondays since our local Southside Bar is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. While there is no food service at The Union on Monday evening the bartender was super nice and I had a beer and my wife a mixed drink at a reasonable price. We finished and paid our check. All was good. But the Monday bartender suggested we come back and try the fried pickles. Fast forward to Friday, April 19th at about 5:30pm.We entered The Union and were greeted by a nice gentleman. We found two seats at the bar. I ordered a Budweiser and my wife ordered a Bahama Mama. We were asked to pay upfront which is I guess their policy. We asked for menu's to order food. The bartender said that if you order food it will come out "back there" and you will have to get it yourself. Strange and not customer focused but if that is your policy so be it. We waited and nobody ever came back to take our order or ask if we wanted another drink. We left and took ourselves and our money to our local Southside Bar where we were greeted and both had burgers and fries. We were not told that our food would come out somewhere, the bartenders brought it to us with a smile. So to the owner of The Union, you have a nice place and on Monday your bartender is awesome. But our experience on April 19th left us more than disappointed. We love to support local businesses and I guess we will continue to patronize our local bar where our business is appreciated. By the way we are in our early 60's and I am a disabled veteran and my wife is a retired law enforcement officer. Not that it matters though. We wish you well and hope your business is a great success for many years to come.

It was extremely overcrowded when I went. Took far too long to even order a drink. If crowds are your thing, it may be fun, but when it takes 15 minutes to push your way to the bar just to wait another 10 minutes to order, it's time to go elsewhere.

Came from out of town with friends. Was treated very poorly and will never go back. Food was awful and took about an hour to be helped at the bar as they were helping people who came up after me but helped them because they knew them. Not to mention I had to explain how to make a tequila sunrise …. I also witnessed the partaking of drugs in the bathroom. A SHAME. If you’re looking for a country bumpkin bar this is your place… The music is awful. There was pee all over the WOMENS bathroom including no toliet paper. This place is a total nightmare, Including fights where they kick out the victims sigh. I can go on and on about how awful this place is. Staff is unprofessional and flirts with married men for about 2 hours I CANT.

The union tends to be one of the only bars in town thus is the most popular despite its extremely racist management and owner. The owner has vocally denied black people tequila while serving white people tequila due to the fear of being a “ghetto” bar. (Served me a pitcher of tequila as a white, then denied my black friend the same pitcher) Not to mention every black artist is banned on the jukebox. If you’re looking for a cheap bar with a bartenders that have no self respect and a racist ownership. This is the one. However, if you are from out of town I highly recommend staying far away, especially if you are a person of color and/or have friends of color. This bar is the epitome of a bar that supports racism in West Virginia and it is openly known across the city. I hope things change. I can only pray that not only this business but West Virginia gets reality checked. It’s 2023. Do better.Despite what the owner says if you don’t believe me check the jukebox, try to play a black artist. Also as a colored person try to order a tequila pitcher.Very devastating. And for the owner to reply and say I begged a bar in West Virginia to let me back in is just humiliating to not only my name but my character! As a girl who resides in a very large city, with hundreds of bars that serve all, I’m not worried about being “allowed in” such a bar. Especially- when I have not lived in the state for almost a year now. Nonetheless, is this a business that I would want to put my money towards? Most definitely not.Take my two cents as you please but this is my personal experience with the bar! Here to update my review. -After posting this review it has came to my attention that I am being threatened in the work group message for making a honest review and practicing my right to freedom of speech. This is just another prime example of the unprofessionalism that takes place within the staff of this bar. Again, I am not surprised they are threatening me after exposing the dirty truth of this place!Additionally, would I be receiving such threats if what I said wasn’t true? That is definitely something to think about when considering a place to go out in Huntington, WV. There are numerous other great options in town! Quite frankly, this business does not deserve money nor do the bartenders who encourage this behavior- which is why I have stayed farrrr away. I am a firm believer in putting my money to businesses that are well deserving and quite frankly this is just not the place I would ever want to support!Stay classy the union pub & grill. For the last time, do better.

They recently got a new company making their food in the kitchen, and the food itself is fantastic. Generally, the place is too busy for my liking. Even when it isn't , I genuinely feel that it takes too long to get a drink. I think the main problem is that the surface area of the bar itself is too large for the amount of bartenders they have. Which in this case is too few, but the prices are very good. The only reason I would maybe avoid this place, though, is that there are bar fights, and while they're not frequent, they get pretty bad.Kid-friendliness: Do not bring your kids here ever

A group of my friends went to The Union tonight (7/30/21 around 12:30 am) and the bouncer accused my friend (who has been there plenty of times before) of having a fake ID and they wouldn’t give us her ID back, even though she had other forms of identification. We walked outside and tried to figure out what to do and then walked back in and they cut her ID. I’ve never had an experience like this before and I’m highly disappointed.

Not a bad place if you like not being able to get a drink

Bartenders don't seem to know how to make many drinks, or at least can only make them well very inconsistently. Tonight one bartender spent the entire time just talking a guy, actively ignoring any patron who came to the bar. The other two had to field all the orders on their own, which just slowed down everyone else.Floors are sticky, bathrooms are gross, all around just unappealing. Feels like it used to be good and is just coasting along on college students now.
