“Thursday12/7/23 Dinner at Quan De 7 Mon restaurant in El Monte with my cousin and friend Jimmy. Enjoying lots of my cravings: grilled shrimps, baby clams, hot pot, and fried tofu with shredded dried pork and satay green onions. It hits multiple spots in my tummy and for sure I’ll be sleeping with a big smile tonight. “I want to go there every day if I could. There are ample parking places, and the place is packed on weekends.Their lunch menu A is only $16.99, which is insanely low today with all the inflation, I honestly don't know how they can make money. You have to order the soup base and meat from the servers, rest are all self-serving. There is a snack bar with sesame balls, fries and spring rolls for the kids, and there are a line of freezers with literally everything, from veggies to seafood to tripe.Food is fresh given they move through everything pretty fast, for the price there is really nothing to complain.“

“If you haven’t been here before the setup might be confusing. You should head all the way to the back, go to the cashier, tell him the number of people, get a table number from him, and then get a bowl and start putting stuff you want in the bowl. The bowl is weighed and charged by the pound, but you don’t pay until you’re done eating. Then you hand the bowls to the cashier to order what type of soup you want. They hand you order numbers and you go to your table and just wait for them to bring you food. You can also make sauces at the sauce station. When you’re finished, bring your bowls back to the front and pay. Also note that you get one tong for picking up all the foods, so if cross contamination is a concern or you have food allergies, this might not be the best place to go.The lady in the front was not helpful and just shouted Chinese at us and acted like we were in her way for not knowing the rules. Some of the customers tried to help us too, but they should really just post the rules outside the store or in front of the front door to help newcomers. I think if you look East Asian, they will assume you speak Mandarin, so you should mention that you don’t speak it to clear the air. The rest of service was fine and nice, just the initial confusion didn’t feel very good.“

“One of my favorite spots for shabu shabu! I always go with the spicy broth or the mushroom! It's not all you can eat, so I usually spend about $75 a person when I go. They have some interesting meats like chicken feet and other exotic cuisine. Very authentic and very tasty! Join the yelp waitlist if possible!“

I heard from the lady boss that the chef is an old hotpot master in his eighties, it’s really authentic!I even brought the soup home for cooking?? There is no one else who packs hot pot base ingredients?Great service!Totally recommend!“

“Best pho I've ever had in my life. There's so much in there I was full for 18 days. During this time I was transported to nirvana valhalla and Betelgeuse. I returned in our own time as if only a second had past. Damon the owner greeted me and offered my samples and told me their process for making all the delicious soy based nuggets, they have pictures of all the menu items so very easy to order. Good opportunity to use google translate and brush up on your Vietnamese. cảm ơn bạn từ tận đáy lòng“

“Not from the area but I love Pasadena and sushi so I had this spot on my list for sometime. They squeezed us in at the bar for an hour meal since they were fully booked for the night which is a great sign. The entire restaurant was buzzing, busy and packed, so if you're planning on eating here please make reservations! Loved watching the attention to detail the sushi chef made on every plate. Servers and staff are beyond attentive. One small piece of feedback...the menu didn't have a description of what was in the rolls and I didn't want to ask the chef about all of them. It would have been nice to have it detailed out. Other than that I'll definitely be back. The quality of the food was excellent!“

“Wow! What a wonderful experience! We had an early dinner on a Thursday evening to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. It was busy, but we were sat almost right away. The ambiance of the restaurant is the first thing that hit me. It was very dark, but in comforting way. It is a very small place. The server walked us through their choices and we were immediately served. We chose their silver level. The bone marrow and toast was crazy delicious. It was full of umami flavor. It was the perfect way to start off. We ordered the spicy miso and the house broth. Both were great. The spicy miso wasn't too spicy at the beginning, but rather rich and flavorful. It did build on the spice level when it became a bit more concentrated. The house was mild and light. These soups were refilled at appropriate times as well. The meats that were served with this were melt in your mouth amazing and only took a second to cook. The veggie platter that accompanied it was a nice assortment. They also had a serve your self rice/ condiment bar. It was very clean and had a great assortment of sauces. My favorite was mixing the sesame with a bit of soy sauce and spicy chilies. It also included eggs, rice and minced beef. We had three rounds of the amazing meat and finished up the veggies. We finished our meal with the green tea ice cream at the self serve station. It is a bit pricy, but worth every penny in my opinion. I can't wait to come back.Parking: Parking in the lot right in front of the restaurant was available for an early dinner on a Thursday. They also have parking around the back of the building as well.“

“Reviewing again! Came with family for Saturday dinner around 6pm. Place is usually clean, not loud, but very small in terms of moving around. The place wasn't busy, however, it was a bit lacking on the appetizer station, almost everything was gone so we had to wait a bit for things to get refilled. They had sesame balls, wrapped snacks, cucumber salad, spicy chicken feet, ear wood mushroom, some bitter jelly thing, and porridge. Sauce station is great, lots of selections and some sauces are duplicated on the other side so it's not just one area to grab sauces. We ordered in the phone, apparently only one phone per ordering table. For soup base, we did the trio, bone broth, mushroom, and spicy (mild), the spicy one was actually really red and spicy! No wonder they had a "little bit spicy" option. We ordered many beef slices, lamb, tofu, spam, veggies, enoki mushrooms. We also ordered fried rice cakes and fried pork (?). Very delicious! The only issue was that the enoki mushrooms was a bit discolored and gray, my mom thought it was old or frozen but the servers said it was fresh. Regardless, my mom asked them to return it...“

“What an awesome little restaurant that popped up here. Was looking to try something new and found this amazing little bao spot. The most amazing thing is how they fry these bao. The bottom is hard and crunchy and the top is soft, making a soup filled bao in either seafood, curry or the standard pork. They sell them in quantities of 6 and 2 to 3 is enough to fill me! Highly recommend a quick lunch or dinner here, you won’t be disappointed in the authentic flavors.“

“First time trying this spot and was pleasantly surprised at the portion of the skewers and the price is decent. The beef skewers were tender and I love the beef with pineapple! Only wished there were more seafood options and items at the snack bar but overall loved the spicy house soup base and really liked they did have good selection of veggies. Would definitely come back again!“

“Had a good time hanging out with my friends. Self-service picking ingredients: vegetables, meat, fish balls, shrimps, noodles, tofu, etc. You pay per pound. I feel good with a lot of varieties. After picking ingredients, you can choose soup from four different soup bases. They will cook and serve you in a big bowl. I love marinated chicken gizzards. I tried mild spicy original bone soup. Would love to try the same soup with medium spiciness and also tom yum soup.“
“A quick in and out for sliced meat. Whether it's for our shabu nights, stir fry dishes, or grilling, we like to use the beef slices here instead of getting it inside the GW market. For $10, you can get a pound of sliced meat. We usually get the angus and lamb slices. You can also ask for fattier or leaner slices of the angus, or get half and half. Come prepared with cash, I think they have a minimum for card. They also have other types of meats such as skewers, and they have other ingredients that are commonly used for hotpot.“

“Loved this place! Service is excellent and I particularly liked the salad bar-like hot pot area rather than having to order soooo much of everything. I (and my kids) always waste so much food (and spend sooo much more money) at the traditional hot pot places you cook the food yourself. If you like hot pot, but don't want to cook your own food (like a sucker ;), I highly recommend this cute little place!“

“Excellent AYCE hot pot place! There’s an attention to detail to the dining experience that I really appreciate. They have a lifting hot pot separator so you see what you put inside. Service is quick and friendly and never seems like they are limiting you in any way. The meats are high quality and thinly cut, the veggies selection is abundant and cleanly maintained, the sauces selection is good, there’s some appetizers and a soda machine. They have some deals sometimes, which usually happen on weekdays. Totally underrated!Spicy brother and mushroom soup base are my preferred duo.“

“If you have never done hotpot before, make sure you come with someone who knows. They are not good at explaining or helping out.I would recommend to come with 4 people at least, this way you can order to share more things (meat, fish, vegetables, whatever you like).I had the gold broth (chicken soup broth) and their original broth (spicy level 1). It felt very spicy to me but I usually like mild. So it makes sense.“

“Authentic Szechuan hot pot. Has all the usual items and the tomato broth is pretty flavorful if you want a non-spicy option. They have a mini bar with all the sauces and sides, plus some tasty desserts. My fave from there was the coconut jelly which has a nice addition of crunchy flakes that adds a nice texture and flavor. Faves for the hot pot itself was the ribeye and shrimp paste, the latter of which was served by the staff as they scooped them into balls for the soup. I would avoid the beef balls because they were pretty tough for my liking. Also the rice noodles require a lot of cooking and were still pretty chewy after a while.“

The broth was spicy and not too heavy tasting. -The chicken was savory sweet, a bit sticky and a delight to eat! There are a lot of bones and the meat is slightly chewy which makes a pleasant texture. -Interior was clean, bright and cute -Plenty of parking inside the structure -Price is reasonable Con: -No credit card payment under $30“

“One of my favorite Sichuan Pot in the area. They use plenty of food and sauce inside the broth. For the Fish fillet and Frog in Sichuan Mala Broth, it's the size for two people with many fish fillet and frogs inside the large pot. Though it's a little bit spicy, the proteins are pretty good with the fantastic taste. The staff told me that their boss asked them to add enough food to ensure customers' satisfaction. What a great experience of dining here. Attention to adjust the spicy level for any one of the pots.“

“Prepare your taste buds for a wild ride because Nabemono Shabu Shabu is where the party's at! I recently visited this hot pot haven, and let me tell you, it was like stepping into a foodie's dream. Service That's So Good, You'll Wonder If You Entered a Spa:From the moment I walked in, the staff at Nabemono treated me like royalty. The service was so good; I half expected a red carpet to roll out as I made my way to the table. The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. They even taught me how to shabu shabu like a pro without making me feel like a fish out of water. Veggie Delight - Mostly Washed, All Fresh:Now, let's talk veggies. I'm no botanist, but I know a crisp and fresh vegetable when I see one. Nabemono did not disappoint! The veggies were not only mostly washed but also as fresh as a morning breeze. It's like they plucked those veggies straight from the Garden of Eden and plopped them onto my plate. My carnivore instincts were momentarily put on hold as I devoured the colorful array of veggies. Who knew I could enjoy vegetables this much? Meat So Good, It's Almost a Crime:Let's not forget the star of the show - the meat. I swear, the meat at Nabemono was so good-looking; I almost asked it for its skincare routine. Each slice was like a work of art, marbled to perfection. The cook-it-yourself shabu shabu experience made me feel like a culinary genius, and the result was a mouthwatering masterpiece. I've never had a beefy experience like this before! Cleanliness that Deserves an Oscar:In the world of hot pot, cleanliness is next to deliciousness, and Nabemono nailed it. The place was as spotless as my grandma's Sunday best china. I could eat off the floor, not that I tried, but you get the point. The clean and cozy atmosphere added an extra layer of comfort to the entire dining experience. In conclusion, Nabemono Shabu Shabu is the real deal. With service so good, veggies so fresh, meat so fine, and a cleanliness standard that would put a surgical room to shame, this place is a culinary oasis. So, grab your chopsticks and head over to Nabemono for a shabu-tastic time! Your taste buds will thank you, and your funny bone will be tickled.“

“Great spot if you like mala (numbing and spicy) hotpot. It's Chongqing style, so spicy means spicy, and there are quite a few Sichuan peppercorns floating around--some don't like that, but I love it and that's exactly what I was looking for. They do have split pots so that you can get half spicy half not if you have a group with mixed preferences. Service was really good, and the sauce bar was legit, complete with all the most important elements in quantity for mixing up a dipping sauce just how you like it. It also had a good selection of other snacks, mostly carbs, but also a really nice pickled radish. Could be improved with a little fruit, like some sliced cantaloupe or something, but I'm not complaining.“
“My wife loves the Hibiscus Tree Combo #1 loaded with marinated beef, shrimp, beef tripe, crab stick, fish ball, spam, quail egg, bean curd, bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms, black fungus, winter melon. So much great stuff inside. We use DoorDash for food deliveries. But I've came by twice to pick up takeout. The parking lot is always full and hard to find parking so we prefer DoorDash and let them deal with the parking situation.“

“If you are into spicy Chinese food, then you will love this place. This eatery serves Chengdu style food (a sub-part of Szechuan cuisine). It had the same 麻辣 taste for all of their dishes (literal translation: numb & hot pepper spicy) as in a typical Szechuan dish. Numbing effects came from black & white peppercorns, which you can taste quite distinctively. Thhis style of food is known as Maocai 冒菜(translates from local dialect: heat the food); , which derived from the hot spicy soup with all kinds of herbs pour over the ingredients creating steam (as in 冒烟as in “smoking”)just before serving to the patrons. You can choose from the menu or pick your own from the buffet bar and you will pay based on the weight of your selections. Once weighted, the kitchen will cook your concoction for you based on your selection of the sauce. All sauces were spicy and numbing. You can also choose lite spiciness, mid spiciness or extreme spiciness. This is the first time I’d tried this and I actually enjoyed the numbing and hot peppers flavor very much. I pride myself on eating spicy food, but I opted for lite spiciness here and it was plenty spicy for me. The prices were reasonable and the quantity was fulfilling for the items on the menu. You can also choose from glass noodle, rice noodle or instant noodle for your carb. I had the rice noodle and it was very well made. My wife selected the least spiciest sauce, the beef bone soup, with beef and it was just a bit spicy, but plenty of numbness.“

“Ah Lien owned by a small Taiwanese family may close by the end of this month due to slow business. This is one of the best hot pots and probably the last authentic Taiwanese hot pot in SoCal. The soup broth is tasty and authentic to Taiwanese flavors. They have a high quality and vast selection of meats. The service is fast & efficient as they are very quick with getting your orders. The price point may be a bit high compared to shabu shabu or AYCE places, but their quality is top notch. I've been a long time customer and I really do hope the community would come out and support this small business & the family one last time!“

“I will go back. Not so good: The hour and half wait for a table of four. Must sign in. Do not go when hungry. First come first serve, until a party of four. There were two or three party of two signed in after us was called. The best part of the place: worth all the wait. Our waiter spoke Cantonese, much a plus. Extremely Busy, but he still managed to be attentive and keep providing a decent service. I love restaurants with waitstaffs working together. ask any wait staff, and I did not get "I am not your waiter." Wait staffs answered all my questions. “This location is located in a super busy plaza right across from focus plaza. I feel like we got lucky with parking. Food here is great! You order your soup base from the QR code as pick the skewers from the fridge. I love the idea of the skewers because you get to try a bit of everything instead of ordering a dish and not liking it. The price is also very reasonable. What I don't like was the snack bar being at the entrance. It felt like the food would be contaminated and it is literally right at the entrance with the doors wide opened.. people walking by and it just felt like bugs and sorts could fly around and land on the food. Snack bar was a pass for me and it was too bad because I really wanted to try it! Hopefully they have a better place to locate the snack bar at the next visit.“
