I had the Gumbo and the vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, not mushy. My group were very happy with their order. The homemade ice cream for dessert is fluffy and delicious. The sound of the music remarkably sounded so professional because the speakers were purchased from Yoshi’s when they decided to upgrade their sound system.“

“What a charming place. After a comedy show at the Paramount, we were looking for something to eat and this place was on our way to the motel. It was really hopping in there. They squeezed us into the lounge area, which was really comfortable. We didn't order a lot of things, but what we had was really good! Empanadas and plantains with shredded beef. We had a mocktail as well which was delicious.Loved the shared plate thing too!“

“I've been ;dining at Roka Akor since moving to SF in 2016. After a hiatus due to the pandemic I noted the food was not as savory as it was. It may be attributed to change in Chef or management. Please put the Chilean seabass and lobster roll back on the menu. Those items were huge wins.“

“I'm obsessed with Mother Tongue coffee beans, been buying them from Seattle Coffee Gear at Stanford. I also found them at the SF Coffee Festival last year. I finally went to their cafe in Oakland and it was interesting, it is more of a bar than a coffee shop. Maybe this is a happening bar after work? The decorations are random and nothing like I was expecting (streamers everywhere, Cartoon Network projected on wall, and current hits playing over the loud speaker). They do have a seating area outside too.They don't have a menu/drink board. I happen to look up their menu online before we arrived but didn't realize the paper menus were near their payment system till afterwards. Because of this, we forgot they even served food other than pastries-we probably would have purchased.We had a latte, coffee tonic, apple fritter, and we bought two bags of beans. Everything was delicious and we would go again.“

During happy hour, my friends and I shared tam yum tater tots and the salt and pepper wings, which I highly recommend. I also tied the Tomato Beef cocktail special, and I would definitely order it again. It's light in alcohol taste but packs a flavorful punch. Just a tip: make reservations as it gets packed, and there's a time limit for dining in to keep things moving smoothly for everyone to experience.“

“Perfect Italian authentic restaurant when enjoying North Beach neighborhood. zor my friends birthday I got us tickets to dear San Francisco, which is a wonderful show at Club Fugazi just 3 blocks away from this great restaurant! Paolo took wonderful care of us. His wine, suggestions and appetizer and entrée tips were the best! The pasta is homemade and very delicious and special. We tried the gnocchi with pesto, as well as a delicious braised meat, red sauce over fresh linguine. We also enjoyed the grilled (not fried) octopus. The tiramisu for dessert was perfect! I’ve been here before, and I will go back again and again for the service and authentic delicious Italian cuisine.“

The sun can fall into your eyes and start toasting you, so stick to those covered tables if possible. Keep in mind that although it's upscale, it is traditional and sticks with its roots. Not the kind of traditional that someone from the South is used to.Really great quality food. The spice was a big wake-up call for me. The drinks are fun (they put one of their cocktails in a peacock glass!) and they make sharing easy.“

We booked a table there for the Valentine Day celebration and got a sitting in the outside covered area which was nicely lit and decorated. They had a special menu for that day so I ordered a duck from it and my husband went with vegan sliders. The food was delicious and our waiter very pleasant and knowledgeable. I also tried one of their mocktails Sans vin which appeared to be refreshing and not too sweet. I liked our experience there and probably would come again mostly because of the ambiance. Food in the regular menu didn’t seem too exciting. “I came here for a team happy hour and I have to say, you should definitely make reservations if you are planning on coming with a group because this place fills up pretty fast. We were so thankful we did. While we were there, there were three other groups there with their own reservations. Since this place isn't terribly big, it got really loud and I could barely talk to the person next to me. Maybe it's just because I'm hard of hearing, I'm not sure, but that was a bummer. Once the two hour window for our reservation was over, we moved closer to the bar and that was a lot better. It made a world of difference for us and it made it easier for all of us to talk to each other as a group. Next time I make reservations, I'm going to ask if we have the spot behind it because it's super ideal! The drinks and food were pretty delicious and full of variety which was really nice with all of them being reasonably priced also. Overall, I would definitely come back but just make sure to sit closer to the bar next time!“

Its special to support a family run restaurant by two siblings whose parents formerly ran a restaurant in this very same space. Hence, the name Back to Back. The food is undoubtly delicious and has interesting recipes like the Hot Honey pizza, but for me what really makes this spot a standout is its energy and story. Lighting was dim, service was good and also speedy. Food was excellent. I ordered the coconut curry vegetables and brown rice. It was filling! Drank water which was served in tall glass flasks. The serves kept the hydration going by always bringing water when we ran out. The prices were very reasonable. My meal was $17.00. I added $3.00 tip over 20% service was courteous and attentive. The dishes were bused throughout the meal which I loved because I hate to see my empty dishes when I’m done eating. I had a wonderful time.“
